We have some sad goodbyes with our caravan friends and hit the road to head back south to the USA. After crossing the border we head to Bozeman, MT where we finally get our tow vehicle back after 6-7 weeks of having its transmission fixed. Then its time to hit the road and head to Reno where we will be spending some time recharging our batteries.

John, it has been awhile but we have been keeping up with your adventures. RE: Your Truck, good you got it back. My transmission started acting up around 46k miles, we were told by Ford that they had two TSBs (Tech Service Bulletins) on the 10 speed and if we experienced any of the listed problems they would be covered under the 60k drive train warranty. We drove it while they ordered the "kits" and took it in for a 7-day repair. 7 turned into 14 and we were supposed to go get it in Nashville tomorrow but they just called and said they have ordered a BRAND NEW HD 10 speed transmission. I have an F-250 with 7.3L V8. We will find out Monday how long it will take to get that in and installed. Meanwhile, Ford is paying for a rental car for us so that is ok. Good thing we are no longer FT on the road like you were! Otherwise, hope everything is going well with you and the crew. We enjoyed the Yosemite and Sequoia videos. Take care friend -- Brian

Oh wow. So were they still only going to cover it up until 60k? Or did would they go beyond that? We got screwed, we were at 64k. We tried to get them to help out but we were rejected.
@AF1US
@AF1US Год назад
@@johnjessjourney2352 Apparently, if the “known” issue manifests itself before 60k everything is covered. Some transmissions never experience it. They said the kits Ford sent them caused more issues than they solved. However, I will gladly take a factory-fresh new transmission because of it. Ford still maintains that a very small percentage of these transmissions actually have issues. Did you know it was a collaboration between Ford and GM and that many GM/Chevy trucks have the exact same ten speed? How has yours been running since the repair? Our question to them, will the new one come with a warranty? No answer as of yet.

@@AF1US Been fine since we got it back although we've only towed about 1800 miles since getting it back.

@@johnjessjourney2352 So John, hope all is well for your Christmas this year. Update on the truck (transmission) - after several weeks of nothing from Ford - they tell me it is going to be 12-14 weeks to get a transmission in for my truck! That does not count install and check out. They have also told me that they will be giving me a 2 year Extended Service Plan (ESP) to cover the transmission. I don't know yet if that is just for the transmission or will it cover anything else. Meanwhile, we have a little car to drive around that won't tow anything so I am happy we have a "basecamp" here in TN. If I were you, I would apply to Ford for reimbursement of your expenses and a warranty on the repairs they did even though they were just outside of warranty. You never know but with the issues around this transmission, it might work out in your favor. BTW - I am also reading that once these updates are installed, the transmissions are doing just fine. Merry Christmas to you and the family. -- Brian & Brandelyne

@@AF1US wow, thanks for that update. Man, that's a long time to wait. So far our truck has been running well since it was fixed but haven't towed much as we're staying put for a bit. Perhaps we will check out that reimbursement. Happy holidays to you!

Love this. Just completed 37 days with our kids on the road with our airstream. What layout is yours? Also, how full were the campgrounds up in Canada? We’re thinking of doing this trip next year. Can you wing it or do you need reservations way ahead?
@johnjessjourney2352
@johnjessjourney2352 2 года назад
We have the 30fb, so has bunks for the kids. The campgrounds are pretty full. You might be able to get a day or two here and there but it's best to just reserve ahead of time. I forget how far in advance it is but they basically make all sites available on one particular date. So if you just logon right when they open up you should be fine.

Yes Good Stuff, I like your approach, not preachy. Looking forward to reading your comments on the Ram 2500. Two questions: How many miles are on your F150 and did the dealer have any idea what killed your tranny? Seems like too young of a truck to have such problems.
@johnjessjourney2352
@johnjessjourney2352 Год назад
64,000 miles, just out of warranty. Not too much insight. He claimed that although the same tranny is in some of their Super Duty's the super duty's have some different gearing inside the tranny that lend themselves better for towing. I'm not clear on exactly what is different though. One issue is that I was never putting the truck in tow mode. Since its a 10 speed tranny the tow mode keeps it from shifting as much as it normally would while towing. Whether or not that would have prevented this from happening, who knows. But that is on me. Suffice it to say I will always use tow mode moving forward. To be honest Im surprised its not just automatica, as the truck knows when its towing from the 7 pin connector being plugged in.

Wow, 64K miles is low mileage and just our of warranty that stinks. We have a International 27FB on order, due in December. Going to pull it with a RAM 2500 which is why I am interested in hearing your thoughts. Not going full-time like your family. Just winters once I retire in 2 years. Hope everything continues to go well for Logan. Our daughter had a tumor when she was 2 1/2. Now she is 25 and a Physician’s Assistant at Rutgers University Robert Wood Johnson Emergency Medical Center. Positive thoughts for Logan and you guys.
