Tharoor, you stand corrected. You said presently means soon. Yes, there is a meaning that presently means soon. At the same time, when 'presently' is used as adverb, it means 'now', (You can refer Oxford dictionary, which I am quoting).
No, Nagabi lo, all words he uses are of English usage many of old/ middle/ modern English. Or derived from other languages now included in English. See his biography on the Google. Or some interview ,he started reading at the age of two years the mysteries of Enid blyton which he finished in one day.
@@bichumonlotha3130 I may be a common Indian true but just like Dr. Shashi Tharoor I am a voracious reader too. I have read his " Pax Indica " but didn't find that interesting. I myself have a M.A.degree in English literature. But Dr. Tharoor is highly decorated with degrees. And finished his Ph.D at the age of 22 itself 🤣🤣 plus his experience as serving officer to Secretary General Kofi Annan of U.N. is vast. Having taught English language in schools I have improved the students pronunciation skills which I found pathetic even after they had reached their High school 🤣🤣.
He deserves so much more ...i wish Indians used English as a language not as a way to feel superior . Any language should be studied with genuine interest ...and not forced on people . His way of introducing new words and making people learn is really nice . He makes learning English interesting even for the Englishmen 😂😂
@@vibhaskulkarni well how come my comment states that he is a great politician and has done everything right. No politician is good everyone has done or said things which is unforgivable.. but what you said in your statement tells how you've been raised up.. seems like abusive language is quite common at your home that's how you've been raised ... Talking shit about someone's mother or family.. Idk what you said is true about him or not but even if it's true what you said is on the same line and you fall onto same category ..
He can be, but imo the better candidate and the need of the hour, is someone who has an expertise in RnD in university level and a doctore in the field of science and technology. I'm not sure but I think the present education minister who's from WB i think, fits the bill more than most other candidates.
@@umerbinshabir6561 to say words like van and viper, your front teeth bite your lower lip to say "vuh" . To say water or watch , pucker your lips like you're going to kiss...its "wotah" not vaaterrr. Just a native speaking layman..not expert
But that's the meaning given in dictionary. reply or respond to someone. "we texted both Farah and Shirish, but neither of them reverted" Even "presently", the meaning given is "now".
I am a simultaneous interpreter in Colombia, I do English to Spanish. I had to interpret 2 Indian speakers, I almost lost a couple of neurons. It becomes my personal challenge, so, I started to listen to as many Indian speakers as I could, I am very happy I found this pair. It helped me to associate the language in a different peaceful way. Thanks a lot for sharing.
@@themintleaf1778 he was former indian diplomat, who cares about reason, he was also going to become 1st india to become secretary general at security coucil and you should also see his oxford speech.
I feel so elated after watching this interaction among our two beloved English Nuts. Thank you, Mr Nut, for organising this session with "The father of English Nuts".💖 I am one of his greatest aficionados and I wish to see him someday.😍🥺 And it would be so nice if both of you are doing more talks together. We love this combination.💚
From Pak🕊 Amazing vocabulary & way of educating people breaking Nut to halwa…always interesting & informative to watch Sir Shashi Tahroor. Pls request him to talk abt the ‘Evolution of English lang.’
After seeing the video i literally got shaken up by got to know about my english skills and yes shashi tharoor is the legend himself G.O.A.T for a reason
Everyone of us actually waiting in bated breath for the curtain raiser and in comes the Daddy English Nut..it's such a delight to see Mr. Chatterjee gliding the show with his delectable presence and with Shashi Sir it's eudaimonia for all English lovers...for a bel esprit like Tharoor sir it makes any episode of his that much more engrossing...thanks Mr Chatterjee for such a wonderful tete-a-tete..❤️
I'm an English aficionado and enjoy all conversations on the language, its evolution and usage. While watching the above video and agreeing with the views expressed by both participants, I was waiting for an allusion to the word ' oversight', which the Americans have hijacked and altered to mean something almost opposite the correct meaning.
More important, the Indian Flag brooch worn by Mr. Tharoor. 💓 Thank you The English Nut for pure english contents. Hope to learn even more along with Mr. Tharoor's english episodes further. 🙂
I read Paradoxical prime minister few months ago and I thought he is being cynical to PM polytically though I loved Shasi , by now lie of PM is being unlayered proving Shasi tharore Right. I will suggest dear sir to re launch it.
It's amazing to see the fascination Indians have with the English Language. It's indeed the most prestigious language in India. As for the mispronunciation of the word "pronunciation' as 'pronounciation', the fault lies with the verb form of the word- 'pronounce'. My pet peeve: cousin brother/sister
Your comment sounds like an advertisement given by Unacademy or some other coaching institute, lol.😆 And yes, I have seen people saying "I will revert back to you" but never.😉
@@subhi92Yes, you beat me to it. Such an error is called "malapropism" which is defined as : the use of a word sounding somewhat like the one intended but ludicrously wrong in the context. 😊
@@samay4596 I said you may like his political ideology in response to your earlier comment that you may not like his political ideology. What is your point?
#TheEnglishNut You both are a charm. Thank you for this. What he mentioned is so apt. A wrong usage gets so popular that it ends up being the right one. Wrong usage of revert was a byproduct of MNC English. Restrain and refrain are another set I see being ruined. I love you both. Thank you!
I think he is one of the few people in this country who has the ability to encapsulate audience's minds to such an extent that even a 2 hour long oration would feel like a breeze.
Absolutely a gem of a guy to listen to. And what a pleasant aura he possesses. Indeed, supremely qualified and most appropriate to be an able politician. A defines what a leader should be like, and what a teacher should be like, by just being himself. That's as genuine a praise as it could ever be for a gentleman of his stature. Not many would come close. Thank you for existing, Dr Shashi Tharoor :)
wow , half way through the video and i have already learnt so much. but the fact that i knew how to pronounce pronunciation, plumber epitome and hyperbole wow man i feel like a genius already 😂😂😂
This is so so good! It's always been pleasure watching Mr Tharoor talk. Looking forward to new episodes. Please include Tharoor's Library section where he could recommend some books, not necessarily to learn English but content wise rich books that he has had read in years.
I want continuations of speaking with Dr. Shashi Tharoor episode three four... Love to hear you both especially when you are with him talking. Only thing I rue, that I have to listen to those interviews or talks at least for ten times, to fully understand.
4:39 Reminds me of Doctor uncle 😁 Please resume Dr. uncle series too. By the way I came to know about you from the first episode of this series. I am glad you made a second one😊
I always try to follow his way of pronunciation. He's such an inspiration. Also his voice is so soothing to ears. And God knows why people here commenting that he is using words that's not known to them. Well, he's speaking simplest english here, not yet opening his Pandora's box. Thanks English Nut for this video. It helped me check myself once again if I have been wrong with my english. But yeah thankfully I have been pronouncing n using all the words discussed here perfectly . Learning this is so satisfactory. ❤️
Tharoor, you stand corrected. You said presently means soon. Yes, there is a meaning that presently means soon. At the same time, when 'presently' is used as adverb, it means 'now', (You can refer Oxford dictionary, which I am quoting).
One of my biggest pet peeve with Indian English is the use of the word “stay” to imply “to live”. For example, Eli stays in Mumbai, instead of Eli lives in Mumbai. One stays at a hotel.
bcoz he Knows good english? That's why? Can he speak any other Indian language except his mother tongue & english so profoundly? he is gd in english so he shd me pm ! wah
I wish to have an Indian version of the color. May be "calar", just the way we pronounce it. More than a billion people are ample for the term to be acknowledged by the world.
I'm just not sure those pet peeves are necessary. I mean, language evolves drastically, right? If Indians - citizens of the second largest English speaking country - all say "plumber" instead of "plummer", wouldn't that just mean that plumBer is now an alternate pronunciation? That happens when Americans, for example, import French words and pronounce them differently. The word then just becomes incorporated into the English language with (an) alternate pronunciation (s).
This is only partially true. It does get acknowledged as Indian English by the dictionaries but does not become a part of standard English. Its every individual's choice whether they want to say plumber or plumBer. But the former is currently accepted as the correct way to say it.
"If you follow the English you will be 5 yrs behind them " Gandhi... India the only country to use a foreign language..unlike China Taiwan Japan Korea Thailand Vietnam..ect
Watching The English Nut is a pure joy and informative! Is it possible to give transcription of the talk in description! It can certainly help many English learners! Thank you
