Columbia Pictures recycled their costumes, designing them specifically for their biggest stars and then slowly recycling them for publicity photos or for use by bit players and extras. Who wore this gown best? Loretta or Rita?
Well. Both are beautiful women. It looks like Rita's version was tailored to fit better, showing her curves. I'd like to see it tailored to fit Loretta as well. People said that Loretta Young was more beautiful in real life than in pictures and films.
Loretta certainly was beautiful. It’s interesting that the dress was probably designed for Loretta, who was quite slim, and Rita was more voluptuous. They both looked gorgeous! Thanks so much for watching!
Wonderful “Easter eggs” in Cover Girl! I will have to look for those gowns, that blue is gorgeous and must have looked amazing against Rita’s auburn locks ♥️
Now that I think of it, I do have a magazine picture of Rita in that dress where you can see the blue color, and it does look gorgeous with her red hair! It’s in storage or I would send it to you! Thanks again for watching!
Oh, I love to hear that! I recognized your name! Those newsletters were a labor of love. I only had to stop because I got a divorce and had to start working full-time (single mother, etc.) and just didn’t have time to keep them up. I’m so glad you enjoyed them!
Yes, they usually only used the dress once for an important role and then would reuse it for bit parts or extras. Not always, but most of the time. Thanks so much for watching!
Just wanted you to know that I did another similar video about the film Ladies of the Chorus if you want to take a look (or haven’t already)! Thank you!
Caren, I wanted respond to your question to subscribers thoughtfully, so have come back to it. As for who wears a dress "better"? Both creatures blessed with beauty. From this subscriber's perspective, it's hard for me to even see the world that way. Beauty is many things, many forms. As for what *you should keep doing - anything that truly fascinates YOU, including "perspective" on stuff. Your world, and we are intrigued enough to hop on in, and join you in that witness.or fascination. Until next-
Yes, you are so right. The phrase, “Who wore it better?” is kind of a pop-culture question that you see in the show business news a lot, and I was referencing that as opposed to actually asking who wore it better. I should have made that clear! Yes, they are both gorgeous and they both wore the dress beautifully! And also, beauty is in the eye of the beholder! Thank you for your thoughtful comment and for watching!
great Caren!! i've never spotted those, thanx! i have seen Kim Novak , Adele Jergens , and Nan Wynn wear some of Rita's gowns.......BTW, i am dying to find out the color of Rita's transparent/sequined dress she wears when Fred sings 'You Were Never Lovelier' to her in that film. Nan wore that same dress!
I must have a color photo - probably a magazine picture - somewhere of that dress in color! If I ever find it, I’ll send it on to you! Thanks so much again for watching!
