Jason heads off the beaten path to track down the final resting place of the famous Virginia City Madam, Julia Bulette.
Julia Bulette, was an English-born American prostitute in Virginia City, Nevada, a boomtown serving the Comstock Lode silver mine. Her elegant brothel, highly popular with the miners, inspired a long-running legend that may have grown with the telling.

Hi Jason, this is probably a favourite one for me. I loved the back story and then that grave site. It may not be her final resting place but as a memorial it was pretty neat. Julia Bulette certainly lived a life and her valuable contribution as a firefighter was admirable. Thank you for taking us on this trip, I loved the clip of your journey, it looked a beautiful day out there. Be safe and well 🤗❤️🇬🇧😘

Omg Jason, dedication to what you’re doing is an understatement 🥵😉 Seriously though, all your efforts are very much appreciated. Am unable to go out and about much these day; yup a Canadian gal here...so am living vicariously through you. The back stories and the footage are just amazing. Stay well and be safe out there...eagerly awaiting your next foray out into, hopefully, some flatter plains🙏🏼✨

If you look at the first big cross you found, it also once said Julia Bulette on it. You can see the “UL” in the first name and the “ETTE” in the last name. I’ve been there and seen it myself while hiking Flowery Hill in the past and have wondered if that might be her true gravesite. The “gravesite” with the white fence around it was put up by the owners of the Bucket of Blood Saloon in the 1950’s because it’s easier to see with a telescope from town. They put it up for tourists to see.

So good to see you Jason. Happy for your new adventure!!! Wishing you the very best and will be 👀 watching. What a sad story, how back in the days how they disrespected one who passed just due to what she was, times are surely different now. She did a lot for the City and did not deserve this!

What an adventure you went on to find this. A very interesting story about Julia. It was interesting that she wasn't allowed to Rest In Peace in the regular cemetery.

Sad ending for Julia. I would like to think maybe SHE didn't want to be buried with THOSE people. 😜And she does have a great view where she is. And some great heels left for her to strut in the afterlife. lol Thanks for almost breaking a leg for us! ALWAYS appreciated ! 🙂✌🏻❤️

That site was placed there by the city to attract tourists in the 1950's. But, it isn't the actual resting place. No one knows where her final resting place is. It has been lost to history. God rests her soul; wherever she may be.

For the record, there are no documents stating where Julia actually came from, so to this date, we do not know where she hailed from so we cannot state definitively that she was from England. She did not have an elegant brothel, it was actually just a one room shack that did not even have a bathroom or a kitchen. She depended on her neighbor Gertrude to use her bathroom and to get her meals. She was named a honorary member of Fire House #1 because she was good friends with them. She wasn't a fire fighter. In regards to Julia Bulette's grave, any above ground marker would be virtually non-existent now as her grave was marked by a wooden marker at the time of her death. According to Vardis Fisher and Opal Holmes, they claimed to have spoken to the oldtimers in Virginia City who told them the story that some of the residents seeking to capitalize on Julia’s name, built the white picket fence around her grave to attract tourists. By 1920 though, the fence was moved so it could not be visible from town. Historians who lived back in the 1920’s remembered where the real grave was, but as time has gone by, fewer and fewer people passed on the secret. The original wooden marker was said to only bear the name “Jule” or “Julie” on it, but it no longer exists. -- Julia's grave was in the Flowery Hill Cemetery in the Firemen's section (Original Pioneer Cemetery), again, a defunct cemetery. -- Author & Historian, J'aime Rubio

Unfortunately that isn't actually Julia's grave. Legend has it that this "grave" was erected by the owners of a bar in town sometime in the 1960's. Supposedly the even had a telescope aimed at it for their customers to check out.

Thanks for the info! That's an interesting story. Unfortunately due to the nature of the person and the burial I'm sure the actual location is lost to time which is pretty sad. But at least there are memorials set up in her memory to keep her story from becoming lost as well.

Bottom line, everyone is human underneath, no matter what job you do to survive, she should of been buried in the cemetery with the others that's what a cemetery is for , shame on them people for not letting this lady rest in piece with the others. Blessed be Julia, R.I.P.
