We've arrived at La Ecovilla in Costa Rica 🙌🌴
We've been utterly blown away by this place over the last 48hrs or so. We really didn't know what to expect but it's special. Very very special. The only way I can accurately describe it at this moment in time is that La Ecovilla is a little bit of a cross between a high quality members country club and home.
We are staying at Casa Bumbu which is a stunning property made almost entirely of Bamboo. It's 2 minuets away from the communal pool and has a river that runs alongside. We are within touching distance of the jungle at any moment in time and this morning we had breakfast with a pair of toucans surveying the scene.
We've met some lovely and fascinating people so far and we're really looking forward to learning more about the rhythm of the community and the way in which everyone works over the next week or so.
One of the points of interest in this journey of discovery is understanding the relationship between place and community. How does your environment, your architecture, your own personal space work in the context of your community?
Marmalade Lane wasn’t set in a lush tropical jungle. Marmalade Lane didn’t have a communal swimming pool that wouldn’t look out of place in a five star luxury resort. Marmalade has a relatively small footprint LaEcovilla is set in voluminous space. But it’s not so much the obvious differences that I’m interested in. It’s the similarities. What common denominators are there that make people within these communities seemingly happier?
Does the ‘place’ make such a big difference or is human connection more important? One of the things that happened yesterday that took me back to Marmalade Lane was being invited to join any one of the 60+ WhatsApp groups within LEV. Marmalade Lane had groups for everything, allowing people to connect easily in passions or practical matters that really matter to them. The biggest similarity that exists is the intentionality in their actions.
There’s so much to learn from these communities that are thinking and behaving in ways that we’re not used to back in the UK. I’ve said it before but this way if living doesn’t seem radical to me. It seems and feels like common sense. The irony of course is that this sense is not yet common.
Anything you'd like to know from us please don't hesitate to get in touch.
Big love to you all. Team Campbell 🙏❤️
