Hello world, we're the Campbell family. We’re on a mission to discover if there’s a better way. We are opening our hearts and minds to alternative, more collective ways of building homes and community. For a year from September 2021 we will be living within communities that think and behave differently. Our ultimate goal is to return to the UK to create our own intentional living community. A community that puts the pursuit of happiness above all other goals.
I have to say I was not so impressed with Arcosanti as a community. Interesting architecture, yes, but what about the actual people living in there in community? It struck me as a bit sterile, just didn’t have a heart to it as if the human element was not as important as the buildings. And yeah, it is in one of the more desolate areas of AZ.
I really look forward to your take on the Cohousing communities. I am doing research on intentional community myself and have talked with the founder of Milagro and hope to visit the other two you mentioned, as I live in Arizona myself. Can’t believe you claimed all those rocks in sandals...our desert here has lots of sharp and prickly things, plus snakes and scorpions... be careful!
I don't think she should have to watch it. She will be more real and less concerned about how it appears if she has not watched herself! But know that you both are fun to watch and we appreciate the realness.
That is a really good point....we can make community anywhere, but we have to be intentional. Churches used to provide these communities years ago. Hopefully, after covid, the people who really see the need for more life on life will push to make that happen now. It also varies according to life seasons. You are brave to be doing this with three kids, but we love being able to watch your journey!
The bouncy ball hack had me laughing out loud 😆 another great one guys!! The ending had me so emotional. I grew up in a home that didn’t value me or give me a feeling of importance in the world. You guys live for your kids and making beautiful memories with them. They might not remember all of this but they sure will remember the feelings of being safe, loved and on an adventure!

Hi Helen, we’re open minded about what’s going to happen upon return. In the short term we’ll definitely slot back into a more main stream way of living back in our home town. We’ll try to find a house to rent. Long term my ambition is to create the most technologically advanced, eco friendly, intentional community in the UK. Not too ambitions then 😜
I think you are right in that the way of life that has evolved, not just in L.A.but in every egregiously capitalist society, with the car reigning supreme, the extreme division of wealth and other factors, separate people. I know you are concerned about sustainability and no matter how friendly and cohesive, few ‘regular’ communities have taken that on board. I hope you find welcome in the communities you visit. I am sure you will. You are both opening up to your experiences so clearly, and you both seem relaxed despite the rigours of travel.❤️
