This was actually a good episode to see you having to deal with these types of problems. I am going through the brakes on my ‘89 NA, not nearly as complex as those turbo brakes. Your videos are excellent.
Russ, appreciate that you were struggling with those. It validates my idea to just send my calipers to PMB so I don't have too deal with those headaches!
I had a real fun time getting those hex screw out of my Turbo calipers as well. I tried using a MAPP torch, but could never quite get them to budge. You'll probably have better luck with your "real" torch. I ended up TIG welding some #8 nuts onto the screw heads. They came out quite easily after that! Good luck!
I just painted my brakes without separating them which is possible but for the best result you’ll need to remove those small bolts, a pain in the ass so good luck with that!
Those screws gave me such a headache!! Even heating them didn't help and the best way I found to remove them was cutting a slot with a dremel then using a sharp chisel to break them loose.
I split my calipers. The only positive effective way was to tack weld a 10mm nut onto the screws. Along with the heat that transfers, using a 10mm socket made this job a breeze. The calipers will need to be held in a vice as the large Allen cap screws are tight!! Do not destroy the plates and destroy the caliper link brake pipe as these are extortionate price!!
@@EuropeanAutoCraftStudios with Brembo calipers that are now probably around 30+ years old as Robert said 10mm nut over the top and some heat from the mig welder then you can just use a spanner to remove the allen bolt
I forgot to mention but probably Goes without saying, clean the top of those dome bolts and get someone to hold the 10mm nut on top and fire the weld into the centre of the nut onto the top of bolt. I found that giving it a minute after weld has pooled up a bit to then try to loosen with socket and wrench. Odd attempt failed but got used to knowing what was needed and they flew out. No damage to caliper at all. Good luck and hope this makes sense. Keep up the good work. Cheers
