My favorite Radiohead song

I love this song now just as much if not more than in the beginning. It ages WELL. Once you get the feel of the rhythm, you can bob your head. FEEL IT!!!! ...and I totally agree with your assessment of the difficulty of sharing Radiohead. My wife for instance doesn't get RH and probably never will. When things become a real part of you, one is naturally cautious when sharing.

Never got into this album on my first few listens. But over the past two years the sound and concept has really grown on me. Pyramid Song is definitely one of the highlights on the album. Probably my second favourite track on it, only beaten by "I Might Be Wrong".

I'm starting to a see a pattern here (or maybe it's just coincidence and me being eager to see patterns), but the fact that Jakob didn't connect that much to a more simplistic rock tune like The Bends while feeling that he could at least on a certain level connect to Pyramid Song, tells me that what we're (hopefully) witnessing is Jakob slowly turning into someone who'd choose originality over accessibility. As this series goes on, he's slowly getting cradled, until he enters the wonderful dreamscape that is Radiohead's music. Or maybe it's just a coincidence. I don't know. But I sense a shift. A good shift.

As far as B-sides go. My votes are for 1. Talk Show Host, 2. Staircase, 3. Supercollider. Enjoy the show. Thanks for doing it. For the record, neither "Lucky" or "Kid A" have been viewed. LOL.

Before I finish watching your video, I'm going to share my initial thoughts and feelings about Pyramid Song (then I will watch and comment on your - I'm assuming - awesome video). I love listening to this song. It is both sad and comforting. The irregular/vague meter adds an uneasiness or discomfort which interrupts my emotions that are responding to the chord progressions. If the meter or rhythm was straight, I would enter into another kind of ethereal zone and would be tempted to remain - floating, soaring - on those emotions. But the interruptions to the meter keep pulling me out of that zone and I have to give attention to the lyrics. Fun fact: I JUST bought the CD so that I can play it in my older 2010 car and was just listening to it last week! Okay, now I'm watching your video... Okay, I am bummed I can't hear what you two are saying while the music is playing. Ha ha........ Love that you snuck in the suggestion/question of adding "jazz drums" before your son knew they were going to appear.....LOL. (For me, adding the drums causes the meter to make more "sense".)....... Ooh, love hearing the lyric comparison to "Swing Low, Sweet Chariot"!....... Oh, my goodness; I just googled "what is the meter of Pyramid Song by Radiohead" and ran into this very long article that maybe I will read someday and maybe I won't. One of my favourite radiohead songs :D Time signature is crazy! Looking forward to seeing your son react to this one, I imagine it's going to be quite a difficult one to like at first listen as it is a bit challenging. Good luck!

I heard that the timing is 3 beats, 3 beats, 4 beats, 3 beats, 3 beats (repeat), and that seems right to me...and it also described the number of sides on each face of an Egyptian-style pyramid, which is a nice thought: 4 triangles and a square.

Such an exceptional piece of music. The syncopated beat is very appropriate to the theme and mood - sounding dark but so cool.

Love the outsider perspective, especially on this song. I believe this is Radiohead's magnum opus. They really hit a peak musically and artistically. This is plain and simple one of the greatest creations ever made. Almost other worldly. Like lightning in a fucking bottle.

This song is not conveighing sadness, it is the weirdness of an encounter with aliens - black eyed children and astral cars - ufo's. Jumping into the river is reference to the spirit world. And there is no fear and is no doubt are rules to abide by.... I know this b'coz I had encounters with these guy's from de sky's. They took this from my head.

I love this song. I haven’t watched the video yet but guessing he’s not gonna like it lol. I predict he’ll give it a 6 or 6.5.

A masterpiece. I remember hearing this for the first time on the radio (indie radio) and that was released as a single. (the record company must have thought "WTF"!) It was very much Radiohead attempt to push boundaries in the mainstream. What make this song a tour-de-force is because of the context of the time and the band was very big . some people were still expecting indie-rock sound from them and i remember some of them thinking "F---ck. they gone too far they will never released the indie rock album i was looking for" :) :) .. Maybe this audience moved on to other bands (Coldplay?) and are probably very happy now !! Anyway "KId A" is my favorite Radiohead LP for that respect.

For me it's better than OK Computer. Not that OKC is bad, clearly it isn't, it's great. I just like Amnesiac better.
