This week on New Mexico in Focus, author and Santa Fe resident George R.R. Martin has skyrocketed to fame through his epic "A Song of Ice and Fire" fantasy novels, which began with “A Game of Thrones” and spurred the wildly popular "Game of Thrones" HBO series. The books are inspired by real historical events, such as the War of the Roses, but also feature fantasy elements, including dragons and sorcery. The Santa Fe resident speaks with correspondent Gwyneth Doland about his creative process, the pressure from fans to finish the series of books, and how he creates and keeps track of hundreds of characters. The interview was filmed at the Jean Cocteau Cinema, which Martin owns and which hosts film screenings as well as events with authors.
