Mescal is having a real renaissance, both in Mexico and in fine cocktail emporiums all over the United States. Rick takes us on a journey to see how a small Oaxacan distiller hand-crafts this fine spirit renowned for its rich, smoky complexity and brightness. As with any great artisan product, there’s always a great story. With Rick around, there’s always great food, from hand-pressed memelas topped with a bright avocado salsa to vinegar-infused snacks. We learn to sip mescal with fresh oranges and sal de gusano-chile-spiked salt. At home, Rick guides us through a mescal tasting and a host of snacks for a do-it-yourself mescal cocktail party.

Rick! I love all of these recipes. I had to laugh when you're making the cocktail and said "the next ingredient might surprise us", and I said.....um, beer? Yes! Ha ha! You're getting through to us. Thanks Rick!

A combination of a michelada and an Aperol Spritz sort of with chips and salsa? Where was my invite? I’ll try it but maybe Angostura? So many possibilities. Thanks Rick.

Initially, I did not like tequila, but once I stopped buying a brand popular in the US and started drinking good tequila, it became one of my favorite drinks. I have always thought that shots were a waste of money and really good tequila is happy being sipped. Learning from my mistakes, I started off drinking quality mezcal and am happy that I did. Thank you, Rick, for another educational video!

I've found that if I buy a quality tequila, there's no need for salt or lime.

Yup. It it says J**e C****o on the bottle, it stays on the shelf. I stumbled across a bottling by the San Matias distillery called Legado, which I use for my tequila cocktails. Good flavor, no headaches, and very affordable. San Matias' extra-añejo bottling, their "Gran Riserva" is also fantastic, but that one is enjoyed by itself.

I can see one on the table is Vida. In the green bottle. The others I don’t readily know.

I have the strangest question here..Which side is your hair parted? On your head, not the camera angle. On the right side or left side of your body?
