Its DIY (destroy it yourself) time as I fettle with a worn out diesel pump on Narrowboat Laura. Can we fix it? Well maybe. Narrowboat Laura has a 1.5 BMC engine
Ah, the sound of a classic British diesel engine. Wonderful, and no smoke from the exhaust. Takes me back to boats we have hired on the Norfolk Broads which were mostly fitted with this engine.
@@barelyfloating so did you mark the pump before taking it off, i have one in my Wolseley 16/60 and its leaking but im to scared to take it off in case it never runs again
Hi Saul - very late to the party with this. I'm trying to catch you up from your start - and enjoying the vlogs very much. I have a BMC 1.5 in my narrowboat - producing loads of blue smoke. My thoughts are valve stem seals or piston rings. Didn't realise the injector pump could cause this. But you seem to have gone to that as your first thought. Why? What is it about the injector pump that can cause smoking?
The only thing I know about engine's, is they have to have oil🤔 um do all engine's need oil🤷. I'm sending positive vibes, that Laura behaves herself and you have beautiful weather for cruising 😊
I didn't turn the engine to any position just put a mark on the pump & the engine block so I could align it up when I refitted it. I made sure to tell the pump refurb guys what the scratch was for hoping they wouldn't clean it off, then I left the engine alone didn't turn anything over just in case it buggered everything up. 👍
Eleven minutes to maximum swear.... My average on doing those pumps on similar engines is about 10 minutes, but then that's on a road vehicle with even better lack of access...... Coo, that did end up all nice and shiny :-)
Nice job! I got 50 h/p 4 108- 1972 on my Coronado. Really Reliable Engine but, fuel start dripping from throttle arm. Is it possible to find out the number of that particular pump? Thank you!
Hello, well done! I've no boat but a tractor with the 1.5 bmc diesel and the same problem with diesel in oil. Did you makel any position marks before removing the pump! Thank you!
Thanks, Yes I marked the pump & & made sure I informed diesel bob what the marks were for I think I may have not quite got it back into the exact position but I'm awaiting new glow plugs before I fiddle with the position of the pump
