Great video and a bit of Chrome polish on the pintal spininig in the drill does a fantastic job then spray clean both parts with brake cleaner afterwards 👍

You don't need to cold shock cool copper to soften it, the heating removes the work hardening and just cooling naturally will not affect the annealing job

Worth a try, good info . My saab93 has a 1.9tid engine , same as the jtd fiats and recently one injector started to leak from the base (washer) I couldn't get it out so had to let a garage do it, I'd like to see more videos on removing stuck injectors

Perfect. I have a late eighties Kubota 3 cylinder engine in a ride on and think the injectors might be leaking as oil is runny. If not the injectors it's the injector pump or worse hst fluid. Anyway great vid👍

Well that worked! Getting the pintle out, I mean. First drill wasn't gripping hard enough, just slipped aroun ' an' aroun'. Couldn't believe my eyeballs when I actually saw it come out with second drill. Maybe two ultrasound baths had something to do with it. I'd bought a nozzle a coupla years ago and left it sitting around. Took on a film of rust-colour. Had it tested and it failed! After lots of spray and sonic bath, and it still failed. Is that normal? WEll, I'll go watch your other vidos. OH, I've seen a vido where a guy lays a bar of copper on the nozzle, on the pintle, and taps it free!!

Absolutely Fantastic... I am having fuelling issues with my mondeo mk2 diesel (turbo endura) at the moment. And I was wondering whether you knew if the older mondeo had pintle type injectors. Only one of the injectors has a wire which is apparently a needle lift sensor?? Anyway brilliant video and really useful info. Cheers!

Thanks that's a great help gonna give it a try on on my old petter it has a brice injector, might this work for that type, ,on another note if an injector is spraying four even jets does that mean it's a good one? cheers

May I add that you should always undo the preload first before unscrewing the nozzle as there is a risk of sheering the dowel pins if you do not

Hi , openend and rebuild mine before watching the video . Put in new tips and all that but now I am stuck on how tight the adjustment screw should go in. I've put em all back in and now she doesnt run..... (the one that holds the spring without the nut part....so just the treaded bit) Thanks for the vid!!

Hi, the screw adjusts the spring tension that holds the needle closed in the holder until the desired optimum pressure is reached, this is a specific pressure to your engine and will need to be adjusted using a pop pressure tester

Thanks for the video. I am not sure the 1.5 litre nozzles and 2.2 litre nozzles are interchangeable. I am not sure the 1.5 litre nozzles can still be bought new, but you seem to have them. The 2.2 litre version nozzles are still available but have two outlets, these nozzles are called "Pintaux" (auxilliary jet). The 2.2 litre engine has a conventional injector installation, whereas the 1.5 litre nozzle sprays into a chamber off the cylinder. I think the torque on the nozzler holder should be adjusted accurately with a torque wrench to pre-load the spring correctly. This allows for a better hair-trigger effect, that leads to chatter when the pressure trips the pintle, producing an interrupted spray. I might be wrong...

actually I just have a question on Mercedes benz atego 1823 it bringing out a white smoke from the axhouse but I have changed the nozzales but still same problem so what can I do and whats the pressure level does the nozzales need is it 280 or 240 for atago 1823?

Thanks for the info. I'm looking at my Toyota Land Cruiser injectors which have half a million kilometres on them and want to clean them up. I don't see the adjustor screw though. Seems they're made to have one set position only?

The pintle (needle) on my injector is stuck inside of the nozzle, can't even pull it out with pliers, currently got it soaking overnight but will try your method after that. On the pop tester the injector squirted like a water pistol and dribbled, had alot of what appeared to be either dirt or sand inside of the injector when i cracked it open, no wonder the car ran like crap lol, was like a mosquito fogger. I only just bought the car so its not my doing.

i took a set out of my peugeot 504 i then decided to use my bench polisher that i polish stainless and chrome parts and made the parts look brand new i polish brake pistons often n said humm why not try it. i did order new ones, for when i get another car or wa t to replace these but i thought hey these look great now so i may stock the new ones for later and get a other 50k miles with the polished injectors. i got new copper rings the old ones were ruined just thought id see if a yone on youtube ever polished the bits and reassembled them

Sebastian...I have the marinized version of the BMC engine in my sailboat...the motor is a Westerbeke 30 (1980)...has these same injectors. Can a faulty injector cause diesel fuel to enter the engine crankcase oil ? I am getting fuel in my oil and wonder if after the engine is shut off diesel is dripping from an injector and washing down the piston wall into the engine oil crankcase.

Excess fuel getting into the combustion chamber will leak past the rings, into your oil. Faulty injectors hose fuel, rather than spraying it.

Plant mechanic/Thanks for video very informative for beginners one quick question,, do quenching not harden ? I think air cool softens apposed water makes molecules angry and hard? I could be wrong☺

that's just on steel; copper *work hardens* if you hammer on it ,or bend it back and forth,or compress it hard like here it hardens...a lot!! what he says is correct.

Hey Sebastian. Any idea what the fuel pipe thread is on this BMC 1.5 injectors? I'm looking a pop testers, but don't know what kind of fitting I needed. Is it 1/4" BSP or something along this line? I can't find a manual with the specs.

matt macindoe it’s the ‘standard’ injector thread so any pop tester fitting will work

Are you sure? This one for example comes with various fittings, M12, M14, M16, etc. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DIESEL-INJECTOR-NOZZLE-TESTER-Calibrate-Injector-Pressure-leakage-spray-pattern/252613369965 Pretty sure nothing on my engine is metric though.

Don't heat silver washers - their aluminium- if the injectors don't work after you take one apart I suggest you take another working one apart and see if you got it wrong rebuilding the first one

Hi, I know you don’t reply much to your comments but I’d be grateful for a bit of help, my boat started chucking white smoke non stop while revving, low on power and misfiring a lot. I’ve tried your method on all four injectors but found no difference. All of the pintels came out fine (I used 50/50 reddex mix prior to removal) I also took the head off and replaced the head gasket and started it without the exhaust manifold (nearly killed myself with the fumes 🤭) two and three seem fine but I get puffs of smoke from number one and number four constant smoke. Are my injectors well past there sell by date or is It my injector pump ? Appreciate any advice I can get cheers... good vlog though

A real how not to video... agree cleaning can work (even like shown in the video) only the adjustment of the openings pressure is inportant, so if you do this methoth be sure to have a injector tester at hand, adjust the openings presure to the engine specs, and check for good vaporizing, not after dripping and the angle! (the end of the needle is not always straight, but often has a cone shape, all depending on the tipe of nozzle/injector.) iff the needle has become to hot , its junk, and you cant polish it out, so the injector doesnt vaporize correct, and the engine will start bad, or smokes exessive., beter is to bring them to a specialist, a new norzle is way cheaper then damage to a piston or honing glazed cilinder walls and stuck rings.

I hope so.... I've fixed quite a few injectors this way. I have also done several injector pumps..... They are soo much easier to work on than diesel engineers say ( within reason )

Hello. I have injectors with this type of nozzle on a BMW 525 tds and I want to recondition them because they do not spray properly and they also have a metallic noise while driving. I crumpled them but I can't make them spray. The jet is liquid, not finely sprayed. How should I proceed? Thanks a good day.

Hi, the workshop manual and parts manual for my Leyland 154 tractor, 1500 cc diesel motor, show "heatshield" and washer on the front of the injector when it is returned to the head. Are they necessary, and, if so, what is the correct way they should be installed? I have never seen them on any other motors..??

Their stamped thin washers like spring washers I think. I think their to stop heat transfer to the back of the nozzle

Thanks Sebastian. This was very helpful! I'm currently trying to restore an old BMC 1.5. I'm a complete novice, so this came in handy. Couple of quick questions: Firstly, how would you recommend adjusting the spring to the right tension? I know you say in your video it's not a precise science, but I'm guessing there's a way to get it roughly right? Secondly, do you know if there's a reason why the fuel pump might have lost pressure? Cleaned out my injectors, as per your video and hooked them up to the fuel inlet lines, but kept them out of the block to see if I could get atomised fuel spray coming from them. I get two results: one is pretty much a 'skoosh' (little more than a dribble) if I loosen the spring right off, and the other is nothing at all, if I tighten the spring right up. I removed the injectors and kicked it over again with the starter to see what the fuel was like coming out the end of the lines. It doesn't look particularly high pressure, and I'm just wondering if the pump could have lost pressure somehow? What gives it pressure? (complete novice sorry)

matt macindoe in short, see my more recent video on pop testing injectors.... Low pressure from pump is unlikely as you wouldn’t get any fuel injected out of injector. Your best bet is to buy a cheap pop tester off eBay, that will resolve your injector problems, but to give you any idea of solutions I need a bit of background on the engine -

Hi Sebastian. Thanks for responding. Yes, I had a look at that video. I'm going to do that. I'm also going to take a short video - take the fuel lines out the injectors and show the type of fuel pressure that exists. With regards to your comment on not getting any fuel injected out of the injector, this is basically exactly what is happening when there is any spring pressure applied. I have to loosen the injector spring right off until it is basically exerting no force; then I get a little 'squirt' of fluid out the end of the injector, but that's it.

No. I bought it as a fixer upper for next to nothing. So far I've put a new fuel filter and start motor on it. It turns but doesn't fire up. So I'm investigating (1) fuel injection and (2) compression in parallel. Last time it was running was 4 years ago. But it doesn't appear to have seized.

These are a pig to bleed. See my other video on that. Note - bleed pump then turn engine a full turn then bleed again. Air hides under the rotor in the injector pump if you dont

I've Delphi LRCT02601 injectors on my Lister Petter LPWS4 (in narrowboat), anybody know where I can source new nozzles, I think Delphi may be Bosch? I'm going to try recondition them but it would be good to have a fall back position. Cheers

The Pintle is not a guide. Its function is to form a spray pattern with the injected/atomized diesel. Try not to handle the Pintle too much as you don't want to bend it and disturb the spray pattern! Interesting video though!

No it does not these injectors shoot out straight fuel then they hit a spray boot thats in the injector seat.

I’m a third generation diesel specialist. That was entertaining to say the least. It’s no wonder I’m too busy to ever do the work I get and who I haven’t found anyone worthy of employing in 27yrs. You’re close but you’re just plain wrong on most things.
