I wanted to test these batteries under load all the way to shut down just to test the behavior and logic of the batteries and Victron system. I was very happy with the outcome. The system is now disassembled and the bench is cleared in order to move towards making V berth cushions next.
I also started making the battery shelves to mount these Epoch batteries.

This is the most informative lifepo video I’ve come across so far thank you. Can’t wait to view a completed installation.

Well that's nice of you to say. From my perspective I am a babbling mess that drones on and on..lol. These kinds of videos are hard t do for me. I have a good idea what is going on but have a hard time saying it..lol. There are three or four other videos dealing with the same battery set up. One shows the final and proper way to daisy chain the Epoch 460s.

I've had LiFePO4 batteries (1000 AH) on my boat since 2016, and your info is well done and very clear. My installation was DIY over a period of years using Victron gear. You've condensed what I had to read in a thousand pages of reports into a very good video. Wish you'd been around sooner! For Newbies: listen carefully: there are a load of nuggets of wisdom in this video.

Thanks so much...because thats what I was trying to do. I had read for weeks trying to form a picture of what the heck is going on...lol. and I have worked 38 years in Aviation, specializing in troubleshooting..lol. it was a lot to swallow. I though I might be able to give an overview of the heart of things. Of course, as you know, thete is much much more. But this was enough for one video..lol.

@@evaneffa2132 Actually I dont think I did rename them in the bluetooth app. On the 300V2 I was able to rename but not the 460ah. I would think we would be able to at some point. You can rename the Cerbo gx touch 50 though

Allen-excellent video and info. I really liked the voltage drop investigation and emphasis on the heat issues and the causes. 👏👏👏👏👏 The MP low batt alarm is configurable either in the mk3 and VictronConnect app. You likely had it set at 12v (3v/cell-or at least the 2p cells). It is still difficult to tell if the online specs are right (it says “4S2P”) or if the app is right and the cells are 2P4S configured. (I suspect the app is right. It shows 4 “cells.” I’d ask a question, but… [insert Jack Nicholson/Col Nathan Jessup reference] 😉) It’s hard to tell if the BMS was configured to 11v or 11.2v for its cutoff, but either is reasonable (and safe with 11.2v safer)). That’s 2.75v or 2.8v per cell. Below 3v is really where the knee of the curve is and even though 1500W seems like a big load, you were still only pulling
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 6 месяцев назад
Lol...you actually watched this boring video and paid attention. Yeah..I wanted to pull a load all the way to the end. I should have expected the inverter shutdown though. Yes 150 amps isnt a ton on the battery is a decent enough load to "uncover some weak spots". It was a good enough test that im satisfied with everything. Its all torn down and put back in boxes. Time to make the batt mounts and Multiplus mounts in the boat. Also time to start sewing v berth cushions.

Fuses: use Z-Case fuses on the battery terminals, they are rated up to 600 Amps and can handle the max discharge of the batteries. Another option are MRBFs which are rated up to 300 amps

Allen: Thank you for taking the time to post this content. I am looking at a 3 - B12460 system setup and am in the bench test phase. I see that you are using the DVCC and set the max charge current to 14.2 Amps. In all of your videos I have yet to notice a number above 13.61 on the GX50 display when charging. I my have missed something Do you hit the 14.2 number and if so where would it be displayed? Tom SV Far Out
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 6 месяцев назад
The only reason you dont see the 14.2 volts is because I never filmed it. Filming this is difficult because everything takes so long and of course you have to be present when things happen. But I have charged to 13.8, 14.2 ,14.4 and 14.6 volts. You will see those voltages on the touch 50 in either the shunt or the battery info as well as Epoch app. But it takes a while to get there. Also...if yor not around to see the batteries get to that voltage and the charge cycle stops and some number of hours pass, when you come back the voltage will drop away a bit slowly down to 13.8 give or take.

Good afternoon, I want to use these batteries in series for 48 volts for a Torqeedo electric outboard that draws 250 amps continuous. Do you think these batteries would handle that amp draw consistently without issues?
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 2 месяца назад
That's quite an undertaking. They might. But wiring 12 volt batteries in series to operate at 48 volts have issues all thier own. Imo it would be best to find a 48volt battery and then parallel them. You can parallel them until the amp rating is well above your needed range.

point taken on the voltage drop but wouldnt it be considered somewhat normal to have some heat when pulling such a high amperage? I wonder if there is some chart or formula that would help determine whats normal and whats excessive? Going to watch Danger Marine video next. Maybe he offers some insight. Thanks for video. Just installed my E-poch 300Ah battery. Capacity tested to 316Ah.
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 6 месяцев назад
I make it sound like 150 amps is a lot but its really not, especially shared between 2 batts. Yes there will be some heat. ABYC has standards on max voltage drop on critical and non critical loads. I think the Danger Marine covers that.
@joesmith1142
@joesmith1142 6 месяцев назад
@@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 Oh thats right. I wasnt thinking it through. That amperage is divided in half roughly between the two batteries.

Can you please do a video explaining how you connected the Victron Cerbo GX to your Garmin system?
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 6 месяцев назад
The Cerbo gx is connected to the Garmin via Nmea2000. Victron sells a special cable. Just search victron to nmea2000. I think it was about $75 or so. Hook up is very easy.
@Fordolet
@Fordolet 6 месяцев назад
@@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 have you looked into connecting the ethernet on the Cerbo to the Garmin marine network ports? I have the cable you mentioned and the NMEA 2000 interface works good but the gmn is hit or miss. More miss than hit to be honest. It knows it’s there because i have the icon but it does not show the HTML5 page on the Garmin.
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 6 месяцев назад
@Fordolet yes...the ethernett connection is even easier. Just use a blue victron cable from Garmin ethernet port to cerbo Ethernet port. After a few seconds it will show up under the One Helm apps. That looks completely different and you can control items just like the touch 50

What program are you running on the Garmin?
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101
@mvintrigue-trawlerdiy1101 6 месяцев назад
It is just NMEA2000 data take from the Cerbo GX and sent to the Garmin via a special cable that has NMEA 2000 on one end and an RJ45 Ethernet cable on the other. Its sole by Victron and can send NMEA data to anything capable of displaying NMEA2K data.

@@user-cr6ki4qs4y That would be a heck of a drive to Tampa Florida..lol. You dont need me to install it. I am 100% sure you can find well qualified people in Az or CA to do your install. The main thing you want is to ensure they are very very familiar with Victron. Knowing Victron systems is key. The Epochs simply plug in and feed data to the Victron world. So the Epoch portion is easy. The Victron portion is much more elaborate. So when you call around just ask those questions regarding Victron.
