This is freaking awesome! also, for someone that's never worked with resin before you did a fantastic job. I really like how you challenge yourself to try and learn new things with each project! PS: good luck house moving!
Are you friggin kidding me??! How are you such an amazing designer & visionary & craftsman as a hobbyist??? Mind blown 🤯 and impressed is an understatement! Bravo!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Jay, this turned out A M A Z I N G!!! I’m so excited you did the Shou Sugi Ban!! My husband has made several pieces (keepsake gift boxes for our daughter’s bridesmaids and a few desks). He likes it so much (he’s the woodworking hobbyist) that I bought him a flame thrower (it’s a gun that you connect to a propane tank) for doing big desks and doors (like sliding barn doors for bedrooms). I’ll have to send you a couple of pics of the boxes and the best desk he’s done yet, it’s a wall mounted one in our son’s room. But this technique is a lot of fun, especially with different woods and how little or much burn you put on them. And then the epoxy pour was awesome!! It turned out so cool!! I also like that you did a clean pour over the entire top, it’s much more durable than pine for a desk top. Congrats on 30k subscribers and getting a new place!! So glad you’re going to have a proper wood shop (vs out in the elements and your living/dining room). Stay safe and look forward to new projects in your new shop!💜🇺🇦
Thank you so much Ashley ❤️ that’s super cool that you have a creative husband. I think that people don’t appreciate Shou Sugi Ban enough. Have a great week!
You can read my mind. Seriously, you answered every question I had in my head as the video progressed. I love the top, I'd like it on a big coffee or dining table top. Thanks for sharing. As always, you've done a great job. Stay well.
The light was a real surprise! I like the effects you added very much. Personally I do not care for rounded edges but that’s just me-I think a flush edge is more modern looking. Congratulations and best wishes on your upcoming move.
Inquiring minds want to know...did you get the inspiration for the stitching from working on a patient? Asking for a friend...🤣 Seriously, this is one unique and very cool desk!❤
Ha ha I have actually had a few comments from people saying it reminds them of their surgeries 😂 but no to answer your question . This was a project to learn/try new things so I can go with confidence into the next one😉
Well jay, you’ve done it again. Beautiful work and I am more then impressed with the epoxy and brass stitching. Your skills are only getting better and better. Awesome job on this one.
Sooooo cool! I love the stitch effect in particular but it's all gorgeous. Changing the legs was a brilliant decision, it changed the whole vibe of the piece. Delighted you will have a proper workshop, your skills will grow even faster!
Another amazing piece! I love your creativity! Congratulations on your new home and work space. I am trying to have a workshop built in my yard. Lesson learned never buy a house without a workshop or garage.😊
Stunning...so unique with great finishing touches...what really good design idea for a piece that was knackered...wow! I think the desk is totally new now...it has a whole new era of design...go, busy man!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️😍😍😍😍😇😇😇😇
Congrats on getting a larger workspace, and on reaching 30K subs! I hope we continue to keep an eye on Mr. Warrior in the background. Cheers from Oklahoma!
Wow wow wow! The resin turned out so well! I really like the effect you got on the wood. And changing the style to mid century was a really cool idea! I love it. Also, congratulations on moving and getting a workshop---that is so exciting!!!
I always love it when you pick up the blowtorch! This is an amazing transformation. I have to agree with the alligator skin, especially with the epoxy and brass element on the top. I wouldn’t have been able to tell that this was a first attempt with either the brass wire or the epoxy if you hadn’t mentioned it in the narration.
I've been following you for a while and I'm so impressed and inspired by your growth and development! Aren't you rather new at all this? Did you know you were going to turn into such a craftsman and artist?! Wow!
What a impeccable job you created. You are not only a Master Carpenter but you are also a Master Artist! Not many people can get a grand applause, but two Masters into a treasure for everybody to enjoy!!
Now that is truly a piece of Art 🎭 very Nice 😍 🎨! Very Contemporary/New Age. I just Love 😍 it. I wish you luck in finding that right 👍💯🙂 Studio. Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance, "The Cake 😋🍰🥫🎂🥳🎈🎉 Man", "World 🌎🌍 Cruiser"&"Succulent Collector".
Very interesting, unusual and beautiful. I love how you try new things and I learn something from your videos often. Thank you for sharing your talent!
Unbelievable, Jay! You took quite an unremarkable piece of furniture and turned it into a very distinctive MCM desk. I love the black alligator texture against the brushed brass (chef's kiss 💋)! Well done!👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
What an incredible transformation. Love the gold wire over epoxy! lights are very cool. The burning technique is sure easier than stripping and scraping.
Where do you get all your different ideas from, Jay? I wondered, “What the hell’s he doing?” But you got there in the end and it’s quite unique. Well done, mate! And to think you paid NOUGHT for it! Most of your cost was Time. Hope you get a good price for it!
Gotta admit I thought you'd lost your mind when you started cutting that giant hole in the top! But THEN...the epoxy was genius! Though I don't care for the wire stretched across it. That top is AMAZING! I wish you'd been able to do the same epoxy treatment to the rest of this piece. I believe it would have been exquisite! But all in all...for a first time you did a stellar job!
OMG or should I say OMJay! So love that youtube somehow dropped you on my virtual doorstep. Watched your more recent work before this Gem caught my eye. The video editing might have changed overtime but the heart of the artist... that burns in you my friend and keeps us all coming for more.
Going back and watching videos from before I found your page. Your comment on how many subscribers you have to today is very impressive. I do understand though. You are very talented and not afraid to try new techniques. I love the epoxy and wire. Looks amazing!
Wow. Impressive work. I need a workshop, too. Good for you that you can move. I’m an old woman, and just starting to refinish and redo,to flip. Hard work, but I love it. I’ll be thinking of you. Hope your move goes well.
WOW. Fantastic. You have a very inventive brain which ends up as beautiful furniture. People are commenting on your stitch work. Were/are you a doctor? Thank you.
Hi, l have only come across your work recently and l am really impressed! Where do you get your creative ideas from? I really liked the overall outcome of the charred wood and the resin and wire. In my opinion the short legs under drawers looked a bit wonky. I also feel a bit uncomfortable when l see the drawers without support under the middle of the desk. I understand intellectually it's okay but something else inside me doesn't get it! I do like your rye sense of humour as well! 😉👍
I'm watching this in Sept. 2024. I'm amazed on how far you have come, and how much you have learned. If only you could have known how exciting this journey was going to be, and we are right there with you every step of the way. Oh, and future Mondo.
I have missed You ❤️ and your great ideas 💡 and it's nice to know you 🤠 weren't in the Hospital 🏥. Sincerely Yours 🤠 Mr Severance, "The Cake 😋🍰🥫🎂🥳🎈🎉 Man", "World 🌎🌍 Cruiser"&"Succulent Collector".
WOW ! WOW ! WOWZA ! Just AMAZING 👏👍 ❤️❤️ Everything you Did To This 👍So Happy for You that your moving 👍Hay I ❤️ that Warrior in the Background Can’t Wait to See what you come up with in the nxt video in your workshop 👍 Have an Awesome Day 🤗
So happy for you that you're getting a bigger place with a real work area! We will all celebrate with you cause I often felt kinda sad for you, working outside, in an alley, I can imagine it must be cold and uncomfortable at times yet you produce such works of art in such a humble place!
Estoy suscrito y creo que a todos los videos que he visto de usted les he dado un visto bueno 👍, pero este video me ha decepcionado, no me gusto nada. Espero que el próximo que mire sí sea un buen trabajo.
Resin is so much fun! You did an awesome job on your first time trying it. Especially considering how big the pour. My favorite resin pouring channels are jedrek29t, Positive Couple, and Evan & Katelyn if you ever want to get into the craft more. This desk turned out totally insane! Truly I'm blown away at your creativity and willingness to try new stuff. Congrats on the move!
Is it possible to use resin on top of wood without cutting anything? I’m wanting to put flattened flowers on my desk and then put the resin to hold them down. Is this even possible to do?
Great job! Just out of interest what paint gun are you using? You only seem to have a small compressor so it can’t be an HLVP gun…. Keep up the good work, I really enjoy your videos 😁
OMG it's stunning. well done. I think from all the tubers I watch you finish everything properly. It's a real joy to watch. Thank you for amazing ideas. 😍
When my students and I visited Kyoto we saw artisans applying Shou Sugi Ban to a resident’s garden tori gates. They also added carved fish to roof corners just in case of fire, I suppose in addition to SSB! I like the grain this technique leaves. You’ve used this technique before.
I will definitely use it again. I don’t do things just once. It depends what I’m doing and what’s most suitable. You also need to do things multiple times if you want to get better at it.
I like your end result, being a fan of black furniture myself. One question; when you were finished with the top was it totally smooth or did the wires still come through as a rough surface. Thanks for sharing this video. 👍😁🇨🇱🇺🇸
what amazes me is not only your work but your ideas.....not in a million years would I have thought of a crack from two holes & then to top it all off you applied stitching....beautifully executed
