This is the bigger brother to the Epson Stylus Color 400 inkjet printer I had a video on a long time ago. There also was a Stylus Color 600 as a intermediate stop-gap, but if you wanted a PRINTER, you went with the 800. Fast printing (for the day), higher resolution than the 400 could provide, it was everything.
But...it was still an Epson. This one of course has dead cartridges and the printheads are likely clogged up for good. Still makes those awesome stepper motor sounds!
If you'd like to see the video on the Epson Stylus Color 400, it's here: • EPSON Stylus Color 400...

PrinterJam! I got that Kine! Last Epson Printer I had, took a flying trip against the wall, when it dumped 70.00 worth of ink on the shelf it sat on, during a self clean. Love my color laser!
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 7 лет назад
Yep! Very common for older inkjets to do that! I'm running a nice color laser also, and it will stay that way until I need toner cartridges!

I done the toner refill. It works for one time, any more the toner/ imager drum is worn out, streaks terribly. It is always cheaper just to buy a new printer. for the cost of supplies. But sometimes, I do reorder, I get them from here: www.suppliesoutlet.com

They don't seem to sell the carts for my printer, but there are an abundance of places that sell stuff like that. In addition, there's fleabay and Amazon.

old epson printer loading sounds are so musical
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 5 лет назад
Definitely agree. Some other devices with "noisy" stepper motors made music as well, I had an HP Scanner that had an "easter egg" built in that plays music on the stepper motor ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J6e5-XLYDFM.html You can also just search for "stepper motor music", I'm sure you'll find more fun stuff.

I never had an Epson, first printer I had was a Lexmark Z11 that cost me $49.99 in 1996. Was a piece of junk but basically got the job done. Color photos printed with that printer faded very quickly if framed and hung out in ambient light. after that I've had 3 Canons, 2 of which are still going strong on original print heads. I've never had an issue with the two that are still working and one of them is about 10 years old. I traded in the Lexmark at staples for the 3rd Canon, an all in one machine, and they gave me $50 for it as part of a special promotion plus it took the old print cartridges out of it and cashed them in with my rewards card and got a couple bucks in rewards cash.
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 7 лет назад
I remember those Z11s. Woof, those were terrible! For $50 in 1996 dollars, it was clearly sold at a loss. But yes, generally they worked! Unless the encoder strips got dirty. If that happened the printer didn't know where the printhead was and would slam into the side of the case. Because the printers were so light, it would literally jump 2 inches. If you proceeded to let it crash, it would happily knock itself off of the table! I never cared for Canon printers, too much farting around before printing, at least back on the old ones, and I wouldn't touch a single one today. "Pixma" sounds like a skin disease someone of another nationality might have! I did, however, have an old Canon BJ-200 B&W inkjet printer someone gave me, and even though it was only B&W, and was slow, it worked, and worked great for B&W prints. Sadly that printer was lost in one of the many floods in our apartment years ago. I should look into getting another one some day. It's amazing you got all your money back and then some for that old Lexmark. Sounds to me that was the best printer out of the bunch! I have long had an association with HP printers, but the junk they make today is atrocious. I have a B&W only HP Deskjet Plus, I can still get cartridges for it, and it still works like new. Plus--it hooks up using a serial connection if need be! I also have a Deskjet 693C, which I believe was the first 6-ink home-use printer, also still works perfectly. And those stepper motor sounds they make! Really gives printing that old-school feeling hearing that, then seeing those 300 dpi dots error-diffused into the best color printing you could buy back when!

Do you have any more printers that make awesome stepper motor sounds? if you do can you make a video
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 7 лет назад
These Epsons made very pronounced sounds. Most early HP Deskjet 600 series printers made stepper motor sounds that weren't as pronounced, but were quite pleasant. The later 700 and 800 series also made some more pronounced sounds. No videos planned of those at this time.

Do you still have the Epson Stylus Color 800 printer? Would it be for sale? I assume it still works?
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 5 лет назад
It's for sale. Does it work? Yeah, but you'll never get the printheads to fire again with that dried up ink in it. You can try, using an Ammonia-based window cleaner. Oftentimes that'll get it to print again for the day. If you want it, you can email me at jaykay18contestwinner@gmail.com

The printer doesn't perform the print head cleaning on every use, so the wait time wasn't really that bad.

Sure, job after job it doesn't. But every few prints, you have to wait, and wait, and wait.

I've always maintained that you should never let your printer know that you're in a hurry. If you do, this will happen every time. At least it does to me.
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 7 лет назад
Ha ha! Yeah you're right! I used to tell people "speed is the one thing you can pay extra for on a printer that will pay you back every time you use it". They never believed me. And sat there, twiddling their thumbs, bouncing their knee up and down, banging the desk waiting for that 1 page to come out of the printer. And they all said _I_ was crazy.

My hp printer (which is only 3 yrs old) takes about that long to clean the print head.
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 7 лет назад
Unacceptable! More than a few years ago, when HP switch from printhead-on-a-cartridge technology to individual ink tanks, it was all over. Individual ink do NOT save you money. When one runs out, the others are not far behind, so you're going to be replacing all 3 anyway. So they can make the price of each individual cart a few dollars higher so at the end THEY are money ahead. Plus, the permanent printheads are another method of planned obsolescence. Once they clog up or fail, it's done. Plus the extended time to clean the heads, and blast copious amounts of YOUR precious ink through, never to be used? It's just another ploy to enhance your money. It goes from your "hance" to their "hance".
@charliesheehan4577

jaykay18 I totally agree I pay $15 for one cartridge, then I pay $60 for all 4 cartridge!!!! it is a total rip off. I print occasionally and in back and white but I would run out of colored ink even if I dont use it!!!! I dont buy ink at the stores I buy a big bottle of ink and refill the black ink cartridge only. $15 for the big bottle and I can refill the cartridge many of times. what a scam hp!!
@jaykay18
@jaykay18 7 лет назад
They're all scam artists. They do put a lot of R&D into the ink; if you are printing photos and use their paper and their ink, it really does work well. Most of us just need a few sheets right quick and we're done. I remember when cartridges were about $10 for black and $15 for color, and they were big and held a lot of ink. Then they got greedy greedy greedy! Made the carts smaller and the price went up up up! Consumer Reports, which is a publication I absolutely HATE (for reasons I'll divulge in a minute) wrote an article in 2013 about printer ink and stated it can go for $13 to $75 per ounce! Extraordinarily expensive for no reason! Now I hate CR because I don't believe their testing and their findings are anywhere near accurate. They have their own way of figuring out (and basically guessing) what consumers want, never back up their alleged facts, and dupe people into believing them. Then they do their own testing, in their own methods, which of course will get different results than the manufacturer's tests, and then base their reviews of best products on that. I remember telling people (back in the days when it was just in magazine form, and you had to buy it, and there was no Internet) that I once read an article about laundry detergent. They tested to see how many loads of laundry they could get out of one bottle, and to see if the manufacturer's claims are true. So again they did their own tests, in their own way, with made up "what the consumer wants" ideas, no facts and came up with the conclusion that Detergent A is the best, but Detergent B is a dollar cheaper and almost does the same job. The punchline was "And I spent 5 dollars on the magazine to find that out".
