I really appreciate your video and support in how things work with th printer. I have had my Epson 9900 for 11 years and use it for photography printing. I don't use it every day due to the type of work I do and have not had many problems with it. I use a clear plastic cover over the printer to keep dust and the environment out of it as much as I can. It just keeps on going. It has always daunted me in how to service the unit as the cost of everthing is going up aso. This is really good and helpful self do video and feel confident to give it a better look at how to keep it maintained. THANK YOU.
Covers help a lot for keeping stuff out of the paper path. Leaving the printer with power so it can flush ink also helps a lot. Make sure to keep the wiper clean as well, and it helps a TON.
Very nice video - quite helpful. I have a 9900 and replaced the printhead 5 years ago. I do not use the printer very often at all. The orange channel is clogged and cleaning nozzles does not seem to work. Do you think that cleaning the printhead by immersing the printing surface in the cleaning fluid will help? If not I need to buy a printhead and also inclined to replace the damper assembly. Do you have any recommendations for sources to purchase the printehead and/or the damper assembly. Thank you very much - Anil
When cleaning the head, set it in a shallow container of cleaning solution, just enough to cover the nozzle plate and a bit more and use a small syringe with a piece of tubing to pull the ink backwards through the head. If it doesn't move freely, let it soak an hour or so. When soaking, you can set the head on a paper towel or cloth fully saturated with the cleaner as well to cut down on evaporation. Pull again, if no flow, soak some more. Can do up to a 24 hour soak with most mild aqueous/sublimation cleaning solutions/flushes.
I bought a 9900, printhead was replaced twice. I bought chips and refillable cartridges from China and ink from them too. I used IPA and cleaned both the old and the new printhead, it runs fine without any issues. People just don't seem bothered to take their expensive printers apart I think.
Hi friend, i think your video is very helpful ! Just washed the dumper on my Epson Pro 4900, but it still not printing. No errors on screen but no check pattern ether. Any solutions?
Wondeful insight into the process. Thanks. Im looking for a printhead for my epson 9900 and epson p9570. Do you have any instock or recommend some place?
Hi, I followed your video and found it very interesting. I bought a used 7890 with clogging problems and only 2700 prints. On the first cleaning attempt with the basic procedure I got nothing, always blocked. I disassembled and cleaned the head with the syringe and detergent, and I recovered all the channels except the black, both MK and PK. the test printed everything except the 3 central lines. I disassembled the dampers and cleaned them with the syringe, dismantling them all and cleaning them one by one. I reassembled everything but the problem remains, in fact it has become more serious, the test only prints the two upper and lower lines, so it has gotten worse. what should I do?
Hi, I also have an Epson 7890 with the same problem. The black channel does not print. Just a few lines. I have already done 2 cleanings by dismantling the head. Did you by any chance solve the problem? How? Thank you very much if you want to answer me.
@@alessandrofabbrini9964 Could just be a blown head, happens on those things. Also, gently inject some cleaning solution into each port. If it comes out the side of the head or another input port, you have a bad nozzle plate or other mechanical failure.
Hi, First thank you for your previous answer about connecting the Flat ribbon with needle nose pliers. That was the solution to getting the ribbon back into the print head properly. Now I have another problem. When the Stylus Pro 7900 power up it did not recognize any of the ink cartridges. I did what the Epson Field Repair recommended and used a tube and paper clip to remove air from the ink cartridges. Eventually the printer recognized all of the ink cartridges but the vivid Magenta. I then repeated the tube and paper clip procedure on the vivid magenta cartridge and finally the printer recognized the vivid magenta cartridge and at same time stopped recognizing the Light Black cartridge. Now when I insert the light black cartridge the printer does not recognize all 11 cartridges. If I leave out the light black ink cartridge the printer recognizes the other 10 cartridges. Any suggestions as to why this is happening? thanks, Kayo
Hi do you use straight simple green or do you dilute it with water? I have a 7890 this really plugged from sitting going to try this this week. Thanks for the video
Hi I have a Epson 7890 DTF printer when I do a noozzle check not printing color I remove the head I'm soaking it .All the Ink port assembly are working except 2 in the center what can I do thank you Barbara
Check seals, clean wiper, check middle capping station, prime printhead with ink or possibly check damper seals and filters. Could be all sorts of things. Please note, I do not provide tech support for these printers. They're getting pretty old and the heads are already very failure prone in the first place.
How do we contact you? Your comments on the BCH printer videos are brilliant and knowledgeable. I would love to know your thoughts on some other DTF printers.
Most DTF printers are basically kits, so nothing too special. Most are XP600, i3200 and i1600 printhead based units. Frames, electronics, pumps, filters, tanks and capping stations are commodity parts.
I really liked your video about cleaning the damper assembly but it would have been nice if you showed us how to disconnect the ink lines. I took the ink line off the front and I had a gusher of ink flowing all over the printer and floor. I could not figure out how to stop it. It was awful. I finally managed to put the line back over the inlet jet and get a screw in it. How the heck can you take the damper assembly off the printer?
I use a 10 inch long #2 Phillips screwdriver to remove the 6 damper bolts with the head parked in the middle of the printer. Saves from having to take off the side plastics and sheet metal top. A good flashlight is a big help as well, just unplug it when the head isn't parked and it will slide in the carriage freely.
Great info thank you. I searched the comments and you haven't answered anyone about the service program though. I picked up a 7900 from an art gallery that rarely used it. They wouldn't pay Epson and the local print expert won't remove more than 3 screws when green, i'm hearing is an issue, clogged it beyond self repair. So I bought it from them, cleaned everything, including taking the print head out and having to soak the bottom for a bit. I cleaned it and put it back. Now I'm reading I need the software to finish the head install. So where do we get it? I see it for sale on Ebay and in Europe but you said we shouldn't pay for it.
So an hour later I discover I don't need the program because I put the same print head back in... now every channel is blinking and it's telling me to replace the cartridge. I was going to shake them anyway, so I took them all out, shook them for a while, replaced a few that were low I got with the printer (labeled 2011) and they ALL showed up except the green, which I had not planned on putting back in. But I don't have another one right now so I shook it a while, cleaned the port, inserted it and getting the same 11 death errors. I'm going to buy the program off ebay because they all showed up for a second. It read the chips and knew I put new carts in... It's as if it's not pressurising the ink cartridges so it thinks they aren't there...
@@DonteKentrell no, but it did help narrow it down. This line of printers are garbage. Not worth repairing or converting. The print head is garbage and they are expensive. Didnt buy one because it'll just fail anyway.
Hey, you know the motor on the assembly? I believe it is the ink selector motor. Well, I turned the motor a couple times and I can see it moving to change the ink BUT now it doesn't work. I get an error when the printer tries to switch it and I can hear the motor try too. I tried to move the selector and right when I hear a click I leave it but that didn't work. Any ideas or lost cause? Thanx for any help.
@o.e.r.3287 it's been difficult to put it back to the exact spot. I took it apart and I see that when I spin the motor it goes to a switch. There is 2 switches, I'll try to put it on the switch.
@@RealLupi The switches tell the printer where the actuator is, so, yes, good it set it to one of those. Since the printer sees neither being tripped, that might be the cause of the error message.
@o.e.r.3287 Thanx for your reply! After many tests and lots of time trying to figure it out, I DID IT! Turned up being the circuit board, had some damage on it so I replaced it and we are good now! But now my nozzle check is completely wrong. It looks like random straight horizontal lines in all the ink colors. Just lines, not even a letter to be seen. Any ideas?
Awesome video! I have a Epson Stylus Pro 7700. That has been standing for a little to long during the covid 19 period. I’m about to try this cleaning method out. My actual problem right now with my printer is. I moved the printer and now my printer is asking me to insert a maintenance tank in the right hand side. I have two maintenance tanks and it’s just not detecting them. Must I replace the Eject Guide Unit?
Sometimes you can just scrub the contact chips on the maintenance boxes with alcohol or similar cleaner. Could be something as simple as corrosion. No guarantee, but an easy thing to attempt.
@@o.e.r.3287 thanks for responding. I tried that but still no luck. Does these old printers get a software ink pad counter reset? Or do you just have to reset the maintenance tank itself? I’ve ordered a Eject Guide Unit in the meantime.
@@faganlevendall807 You can get a chip resetter for the maintenance box for around $10-30. Just presses up against the pads on the chip and resets it to 100%. If there's lots of ink, you can unclip the grate and restuff the box with paper towels or cotton pads.
@@o.e.r.3287 thanks for the info. I appreciate it. My printer is saying: Insert the right side maintenance tank It’s not saying: Replace the right side maintenance tank. Do you still think it could be sorted just by resetting the maintenance tank itself? Apologies for the millions of questions. I just really need this printer.
@@faganlevendall807 Could be, also, get a flashlight and look at the contacts in the maintenance box bay to see if they look bent, or if the plastic retainer has cracked.
Hi, In addition to cleaning the damper I also removed and cleaned the print head. When I reinstalled the flat ribbon into the print head it would not go in and just jammed. As a result my Epson Stylus Pro 7900 will not turn on. I have ordered a new flat ribbon. Do you have advice has to how to properly connect the Flat ribbon to the Print head? thanks, Kevin
I typically use tweezers or needle nose pliers with a strip of tape on each blade to press the cable in without tearing up the cable. Not a whole lot of working room in the area.
I just ordered a new ink selector and then I watched this. I am getting air in my line. My magenta line went out so I bypassed it after I tried to clean it. A few months later another Magenta line failed. I'm going to try & clean the selector to see if it will work.
I THINK my Epson 7900 needs an entire damper replacement. But I don't know how to disconnect the gasket from the ink hose? When I tried, ink flowed out in buckets. Can you help?
Make sure to unlock all cartridges and pull them out. If they are still seated and pressurized, you'll have a godawful mess on your hands. Even without pressurization, quite a bit of ink can flow out. Keep the ends of the lines elevated and it will greatly reduce this.
Great video I recently purchased a 7890 and it has 4,400 print pages with my print head last me some time still or do you recommend buying a new one ? Also do you have a website for salvage parts ?
Not selling salvaged parts at the moment. However, to keep the print head going, use the printer often, run it in a climate controlled room and keep the wiper and capping station gasket clean to maximize its life.
If adding white ink, expect a massive amount of headaches. That stuff is print head kryptonite. The BCHTechnologies channel has lots of info on conversions, inks and stuff like that. Mostly on smaller printers, but same principals apply.
Hi.. i got the auto shutdown after the flushing process for damper and head, i turn on the printer by pressing power button and showing “please wait” and shut down . Do you have any clue what causes this one? I can see lot of air in the tube but. Please let me know if you have any idea? Thanks
Hi, thanks for very useful video and advices. how did you made the simple green solution? Also, what do you do after the flushing process to get air out of those 5 dampers?
To refill the damper, simply reinstall it and run a couple of regular cleaning cycles. If you do not have access to Simple Green, just using warm water will work ok. Can use a few drops of dish cleaning detergent dissolved in water as well, just make sure to flush everything out with clean water afterwards.
@@o.e.r.3287 thanks. When you have a chance, can you make a video how to flush the printhead also? Im in a situation where some colors are completely out on nozzle check after few cleaning cycles. I flushed the damper like you did on this video and fill them full with water before install the head. Thanks
I would like to buy an epson 9900 plastic cartridge holder...its the back plate on the left hand side what the cartridges are pushed into where the inks initially flows through...do u have any in stock?
hi am using epson 9700 pro printer plotter. thank you for informative video can you guide me, two colors cyan and magenta is totally missing, and also missing during purging ink can you guide me plz
Hi bro, how do I get it out? I tried the other day and I drowned myself, the printer and everything within 10ft of the printer in ink 🤦 I can't figure out how to unlock the carriage and have the system depressurised at the same time?
Need to restart the printer in service mode, tell it to do a wiper exchange to unlock the head and then power it off. Some videos showing the process can be found, just search 'epson 9900 wiper' If you try and open the ink system with it pressurized, you end up with an ink sprinkler.
@@o.e.r.3287 Thank you, I got it sorted this time without covering the place in ink. You know when you screw off the black plastic on the top, have you ever unscrewed the next plate that sits on top of the dampers with the foil on top? I'm looking to add a white ink circulation system to mine, but I'm afraid to unscrew the plastic plate with the foil on?
@@stuartcotterill9475 The foiled plastic tends to be pretty durable, just avoid puncturing it or pulling on the foil itself. There was apparently a 7900W white variation of this printer, but I have not seen that version in the wild.
The middle dampers are tricky to remove. I had to use a thin seal pick (piano wire might work) to get the tabs unclipped. Because the ink switcher gets in the way, it can be really difficult to do without breaking anything. Just take your time and don't be too forceful. Wish there was an easy way to do it, but it just takes a lot of patience.
Do you have other 7900/9900 parts? The FFC delaminated to my display controller. I “fixed” it, but it was a little loose in the connector and I didn’t notice it shorted a couple of contacts on insertion until my display went dark. Either blew the display or the power supply to it. Grrr…
I should have asked about main boards, too. 50/50 my short hurt the mainboard instead of the display controller. (You should post an email address somewhere so I don’t have to post my credit card number in a RU-vid comment to buy something from you. 😊)
@@o.e.r.3287 Hej i have cleaned. My dampers on my 9900 epson - but my needle went throe the aluminium, what can I do with that? Do you have a new damper set?
@@ocbsquared I just splice in a connector on the damper, saves me from having to remove the side and top covers from the printer. Otherwise, you have to get access to the very top of the print carriage and remove the wiring covers.
I run Epson 7900's and 9900's and need to repair them myself every so often, this is a very useful and information video. Do you sell refurbished printheads for these models? It would help me not to have to pay $1500 every time I need a new printhead.
I have great luck with Posters & Vinyl Graphics out of Louisiana. They have an eBay listing for most print heads or you can contact them direct. $80 through eBay about, $60 in bulk. If they are bad, still a $25 service fee. Tend to have about 85%+ success rate. We also sell already refurbed ones when we have them for around $650-700.
Your best bet is to prime check the head. You can also do a reverse-pull by hooking a syringe and a bit of tubing to the ink ports and carefully pulling back the plunger to remove the old ink. You can also soak the head in a shallow tray of original formula Windex, or 90% water and 10% simple green. Be gentle with your pressure using the syringe as well and after doing a pull, you can start pushing clean SG/Windex through the ports. After reassembling, run a cleaning cycle or two to pull ink through the head and re-prime it.
@@IgorD666 If the damper isn't priming, it might be an issue with the pressurization pump. The system pushes air into the cartridges to press down on the internal bags to move the ink up into the system. Bad pumps typically give an error code however. If it is just a single or few colors, and not all, it could be gelled/solidified ink inside the lines.
