Is the Equal-i-zer Anti-Sway and Weight Distribution Hitch as good as they claim it to be? Is it even necessary? In this vid I answer those questions and more. But first I show the process of hitching up my 25' Micro-Lite RV to my 2017 Ram 1500 with the Equal-i-zer hitch. While hitching up I also show how much of a difference it makes with how much my Ram squats and talk about the installation process.
Afterward I take my RV on a 2000 mile road trip up to South Dakota where I get a live view of the Equal-i-zer hitch in action on a VERY rough road between the Badlands and the Black Hills. All the meanwhile I discuss my thoughts on the Equal-i-zer hitch and my experiences towing my RV with and without it, including 2 very high wind days.

I get it that you have the equalizer greese but I use hub bearing grease. It lasts longer

Wow! Thanks for the video of the hitch in action - haven't seen this anywhere on YT. I was wondering if those L pin snap clips would work themselves open an let the bar push out the L pin. Looks like it's not a problem.

Ive been using the standard bar and chain WD hitch with friction sway for 12 years. I pretty much have it dialed in but I know it could be better. Ives always told myself that when we get a new trailer I’m upgrading to an equalizer. Well the time has come. Trailer finally came in to the dealer and we get it on 4/4/24. (ordered it January 31, 2024) and I can’t wait to put the equalizer to the test. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.

Congrats on the new trailer! I don't have any experience with the chain style hitches so I can't compare, but what I do know is that I'm so confident with this Equalizer hitch I don't even feel I need to try any others. I'd definitely like to hear your perspective on it after having used a different style for so long.

@@Scavenger1320I pick up the trailer next Thursday and I’ll be setting up the hitch myself at that time. I only live 10 minutes from the dealer so it’s all side roads but I already plan on running it down the freeway to check to test it out. Stay tuned! 🤞

That bar installation lever comes with the hitch, if you didn’t get one with the hitch and you bought it new you got had. FYI: I’ve got this same fine hitch I bought new in 2019.

Yeah, I don't know why I said it the way I did. It's sitting inside the RV, I just never use it. I did note that correction at 6:17

Good choice! I have a 28ft Jayco and the 4way equalizer bars with miles of towing with my 21 Ram 1500, PLEASE put a square pin in the coupler with the power cord running thru it.
@Scavenger1320
@Scavenger1320 Год назад
I’ve actually never heard of doing that for the power cord. Never had issues with it and haven’t heard it being much of an issue. Looked it up though and I’ll definitely try it. Thanks for the tip

Carbon fiber drive shaft maybe?

@Scavenger1320 Год назад
@@gbc9192 I wish I could afford one lol, but I still have a few weight reduction vids coming. I just have a couple more Ram and tow vids left to do. Seems those get a lot more views than the racing stuff so hopefully they'll help me afford that driveshaft eventually lol

Great Content Chris! Nice comparison with the hitch system, having it hooked up verses not.

Just got this hitch and I am trying to get it installed. I'm excited to get it on, because towing it from the lot where I bought it was NOT fun. 😂

On the bright side you now at least will know what towing is like without it! Which I agree, is definitely not fun. Thanks for watching and commenting!

Nice video Chris. I've setup a lot of trailers and hauled a ton of stuff over the years and found that you get the best tow with between 10% to 15% tongue weight. I always use a trailer scale to get it just right.
@Scavenger1320
@Scavenger1320 Год назад
I could definitely use one of those trailer scales to find out the actual tongue weight. I'm pretty sure I'm right around that 15% mark. I know these Micro-lites are on the heavier side compared to other RVs when it comes to tongue weight so I try to keep that in mind when I'm loading things up.

I put new heavy duty coils in my rebel because I had a lift and I didn’t wanna squat backwards, even with the lift I had it lifted the truck another 1 1/4 and the truck only squats about half inch with 5600lb trailer so I’m guessing around 500-700lb Tongue would be my guess so id def recommend upgrading the coils for 250-300

Was told it a law in nebraska to cross your breakaway chains when hooking to truck.
@Scavenger1320
@Scavenger1320 10 месяцев назад
They are crossed. Anytime I unhitch my trailer I place the chains up over the frame like you see in the vid with them still crossed underneath, so the hooks are basically always on the side they hook up to just to make hitching up that tiny bit quicker and easier. You just can't see that really well from the camera angle.

You have not drove through Illinois. There roads suck!
@Scavenger1320
@Scavenger1320 Месяц назад
I’ve actually driven through Illinois a ton. Not towing the rv, but in my car and truck. I’ve never experienced roads that were all that bad, except for the time I hit a patch of black ice and spun out into the median just outside of Effingham. But I’m also originally from Detroit and in all my driving I have yet to see a state with roads as bad as Michigan. Although Shreveport Louisiana is a contender lol.

The friction resistance of the bars is part of the design to reduce sway. RV tech told me to never grease the WDH. 🤷🤷
@Scavenger1320
@Scavenger1320 12 дней назад
This is a case where I'd go with the actual manufacturer recommendations over an RV tech, especially when he mentions "design" and saying something opposite of what the people who actually did design it are saying. Maybe what he's saying does apply to other hitches, but for this Equalizer I'm going with what Equalizer themselves say.
