Great video! My Terrain V6 kinda jerks a little when lifting off the accelerate and this might be the culprit (already used your Mass Air Flow Sensor clean video to rule that out). Question. After performing the throttle body clean out.. is there a "re-learning" process required for the sensor to adjust to the new clean environment? I've seen in some places people recommend to do this, but not sure if its actually required.. Thoughts?

This could very well be the culprit. Worth doing before looking at something bigger or more costly. Thanks for checking out the MAF video too. To answer your question, it is possible that it *may* need to be done. If the TB is really bad, the car may be far out of sync when cleaned and the relearn may be needed. That being said, I have done hundreds of TB cleanings on all types of makes (American, German, Japanese, Korean, etc) and i've never once had to complete a relearn. All the cars have tolerances built in and will adjust in time. No MIL either. But it can definitely happen. It's just rare in my opinion

@@NexusAuto Appreciate the response. One follow-up question if I may, again some vids recommend disconnecting the negative battery terminal when performing this task but never explain why. I can't see the reasoning but interested in your thoughts?
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 2 года назад
@@lyonsfamily4476 great question. There is a 2 part answer, both having to do with safety. First, for your safety. Electronics is tricky, and sometimes if the computer sees something off, it will make adjustments, even if the Ignition is turned off. In this case, if someone is messing with an electronic component (TB in this case) and are cleaning it while in the car, while moving the butterfly flap, the car may see it open and try to 'adjust' it, thinking something is off. And that flap being so sharp, could not work out well for your fingers. Will it happen? Not very likely...99% no. But that 1% is still a risk. Second, it's for car safety. Mistakes can happen, like something spilling on an electric connector or a tool grounding on the battery accidentally. Things happen. By disconnecting the battery, this protects the car, most importantly the PCM, from electrical damage. It's more for dummy- and accident-proofing the the person and the car. Honestly, I've never disconnected the negative on 99% of the work I do, but I know there is a level of risk that comes with it and I'm prepared for it should something arise. I've seen seasoned techs blow a PCM by not taking it seriously.

Would WD 40 be okay to use or not???
@NexusAuto
@NexusAuto 5 месяцев назад
It may work, but the biggest problem I would see is the WD40 would dry up quicker than the throttle body cleaner, so you wouldn't get enough time to really allow it to break down the carbon buildup. I would say stick to the TB cleaner if you can
