these tech talks are very informative.. i get to think about my bike setup even more. eg the seat height, foot pegs on a normal bike is way unsuited for all riders..esp his insight on how to take a 2nd gear turn on the track. a normal fast rider cannot think to say this: "weight is higher and further back than footpegs" ..good stuff keep it coming

Simon should talk about akrapovic exhaust... why teams use different model? just to make it fit with the bike or every team has different "recipe" for their exhaust?
@pokerpariah
@pokerpariah 3 года назад
I doubt Akrapovic develops any of the exhaust. I bet all the factory teams creates the exhaust in-house so they can keep engine performance secrets within the factory. I'm sure all they do is slap on the Akrapovic name since they pay sponsorship money. No way in hell HRC would allow SC-Project (Repsol Honda) or Arrow Exhaust (LCR Honda) to obtain one of their engines so they can tune the exhaust.
@kampfret
@kampfret 3 года назад
@@pokerpariah you sure mate? What about the last time yamaha used new exhaust? Do you think that was yamaha who built it? Not akrapovic? I think they have non disclosure agreement between them and each team... sure bikes factory can formulate their own exhaust.. but i think the experience and tech akrapovic has for exhaust system is way more superior than the bike factory made.. imo
@pokerpariah
@pokerpariah 3 года назад
@@kampfret No way Akra built that and all other exhaust for Yamaha. And no, I do not think Akra has better knowledge than a factory for creating exhaust for a prototype engine where the engineers are under time constraints and have specific directions. And it's time consuming and cost restrictive to fly exhaust back and fourth from Slovenia to Japan and vice versa. Here's another example : Petronas Yamaha is sponsored by Sakura exhaust. Monster Yamaha is sponsored by Akra. If you look closely at pictures of the exhaust they are exactly the same. Same wielding points, same design, same pebble guards. The same goes for the HRC bikes.
@kampfret
@kampfret 3 года назад
@@pokerpariah that's why i want simon to talk about it.. to give us some insight of how it being develop and choose.. factory steet bike seems using akra for their standard exhaust.. that's why i guess akra also develop the exhaust for motogp..
@MaverickPrimegang
@MaverickPrimegang 3 года назад
@@kampfret how fool you are factory are stickering different exhaust manufacturer company as a sponsor and you expect from them to disclose the reality what jerry has said is true all the factories develop exhaust system by their own but its different in production bikes championship like World SBK , BSB here exhaust company actually makes for them

I made some adjustments and got a new race seat and plan on riding with my elbows tucked in next time out in Circuit of the America’s. My current top GPS speed in COTA is 181 mph on Panigale V4S on pump gas , this is with elbows out over the knees. For comparison MotoAmerica superbikes do 185-188 in the same spot. I am very curious to see what me tucking the elbows and being more aero will do.

Great Tech Talk Simon, however being an engineer, the statement about standing on your feet to lower the center of gravity didn't ring quite true. I see how it might load the rear suspension differently, but whether your back side is on the seat or just above it, the center of gravity of the entire system (bike and rider) will be approximately at the same spot. Get me right, I don't argue that the technique works (obviously you know from experience that it does!), I just believe that the explanation of why it works, should be found elsewhere 😉 Keep these Tech Talks coming 👌
@nathanbarnes97
@nathanbarnes97 3 года назад
i think the effect of standing isn't to lower the center of gravity as much as to bring it forward as when standing the weight is all going through pegs which are mounted further forward on the main frame rather than the seat which is on the rear sub frame helping keep the front end down
@raynic1173
@raynic1173 3 года назад
No he's right because it has to do with the contact points of that CG. The CG is broken up through all the contact points, seat, feet, legs at tank and hands; anything that makes contact with the bike. The effect of that weight, the weight plus the moment arm of the rider, in comparison to the CG of the machine. The sum total is the contact point weight times the shortest right angle distance to the CG of the bike via the various contact points. When going down a straight, there's going to be, most likely, no vertical downward weight via the hands during acceleration. If anything the rider will be holding on, so there if force upward and back. But if the rider relaxes his hands and put weight on the tank, he just transferred some of his weight to the tank. Although the tank is higher than the seat, it is actually at a closer distance than the seat and would, through a force diagram, provide a shorter distance than the seat. Hence, being a smaller overall affect. Similar, with the foot pegs, not perfect but better than the seat. The rider is actually balancing the need for aerodynamics vs weight transfer vs relaxing the arms/upper body. To help this issue is exactly why they started adding wings on the front of the bike. To create front end down force while sacrificing a little bit of aerodynamics, drag.
