Legend has it that Leonardo DiCaprio used Cartman's caracter in that episode as an inspiration for his role in Django Unchained. I'm calling that true method acting!
I was just about to ask was this filmed before or after Django Unchained because the moment I saw this and heard the accent I immediately thought of Calvin Candy! I just knew either this was inspired by Calvin in Django Unchained or Calvin was inspired by this!
@yxcvtfgjh lkjasdh Hey, the scriptures talk bad about America. It will be destroyed. You don't see America with binoculars like other's do who know it's wicked and a cursed nation.
@yxcvtfgjh lkjasdh I'm American. Born in florida near pahokee, raised by the Okeechobee lake. I know America. I'm not foreign. I know that America is wicked to it's core and I don't live in America anymore because i choose freedom of oppression. But you on the other hand don't understand America's system. Tell me, why do you pay taxes and where does taxes come from? You know that's your hard earned money that they're taking from you right? Imagine keeping all 100% of that money that you make out of your paycheck. State, and federal taxes. Do you know why parking tickets exist. Do you know why traffic tickets exist? Do you know the difference between a magistrate judge and a judicial jude everytime you step into a court house? What about calling out their oaths? You boast about america but you do not know it's system. You don't know that through your social security number they are robbing you blind through something called "The strawman", are you wise enough to search all of this or just live in ignorance Forever? Do you know why you have a Birth certificate? Do you know the origin of it? People in america avoid taxes or try to avoid taxes because they know taxation is a burden and it hurts your pockets and things that you want to do you have to put off to the side until you can get your money right to do do. But if there was no taxes then whatever it is that you want to do would come sooner to you Learn life or be subject to those who rule over you. You live in w fantasy country. You have no idea what's going on. Do
@yxcvtfgjh lkjasdh look, don't be that Guy. Ok. If someone told you a lie, you'll look into it before calling it a conspiracy theory. If someone told you the truth, you'll look into it before judging the cause of it and calling it a conspiracy theory. You see, America has brainwashed the people into calling thing's conspiracy theories because they know that these people will not go and do their in debth research on the matter and will just believe the government. You on the other hand i see, automatically call thing's conspiracy theories. Even if i do give you proof you'll look over the surface of it and will not dig deep to get the understanding of the matter. I'm against the Wickedness that goes on in America. You're all for it because you will not research anything even if someone does give you the key to the answer you'll just call it a conspiracy theory. You'll say you'll look into it but throw it away because you don't want to see the Truth. It's better for you to remain in ignorance.
The joke about comparing a student athlete to a slave was that they didn’t pay them because they were just given free food and housing like a slave would have been given for those of you who don’t seem to understand the joke.
@@biscoito1r Yeah, my fucking scumbag eighth grade science teacher used to tell stories about his college roommate. The roommate was there on a basketball scholarship and my teacher used to laugh about how the guy was always starving because he didn’t have time for a job, his family was broke, and the school wasn’t allowed to feed him.
@@christianhenson6924 No, they’re talking about the athletes. While the successful ones do end up becoming millionaires once they get signed on, in college they’re definitely in some aspects treated worse than slaves. Really the only defence the colleges have is that it’s voluntary, but that’s a poor defence.

@@thomasmule5869 Right right right. Lets expore a bit further than that shall we? Do these students play games that attract national interest? @@DerickMasai unless you play D1 FBS football or for a handful of basketball programs youre a financial net drain on the school. Football pays for literally everything else in the athletic department except basketball which usually is about breakeven give or take. Entire budgets of small D1 schools are paid for by taking an ass whooping or two a year at big programs like Alabama or Ohio State in football
0:02 The line "A representative from another *Prestigious* Institution is here to see you." is delivered so perfectly. It setups up the rest of the scene beautifully.
South Park is supposed to be a play on Littleton. Close to U of C at Boulder where they were raised essentially. Therefore the closest college to South Park would be U of C at Boulder.
@@knop9030 the video about slaves? Where a Hispanic man said he is sick of the treatment blacks get eg reparations and yet his race who served as slaves receive nothing. Slavery is literally the subject of the video..

"Look, there are...good reasons why our student athletes cannot be paid, young man." I like the audible pause there, as though he's trying to justify it himself.
@@justicewarrior9187 Funnily enough Amazon's also lobbying for a higher minimum wage. You know, one their competition can't pay. "We don't have a monopoly, it's just too expensive to compete with us."
Dud they pay really well. Just work you to death but it's one of the best gigs in town far as I'm concerned, for unskill d labor. If you get a good shift or good building it's pretty cool.
Brilliant. South Park is genius at exposing the hypocrisies of the world. It's insane athletes at a college level don't make money from merchandise that is sold using their names while these institutions rake in millions. Most of these athletes will never go pro they should be at least getting a piece of the pie if someone buys their college jersey with their name on the back of it.
You truly don't pay attention to news I see. The universities don't have to pay them. The athletes are allowed now to make money off their name and brand. They can sign autographs and I believe sell their own merchandise. Things like that. But the schools do not have to pay them a salary still.
Imagine being an NFL multi millionaire and comparing yourself to a slave. This is how disconnected people are today from slavery. They don't get it at all. At least with this joke the students actually make bank but don't get any of the money and just get basic things covered like a slave.
He h his followers don't have a life? Sit on the couch? Do they realize that this is a slap against reparations for SLAVERY? Will get around to watching South Park DVDS I bought@ GOODWILL.
@@kingme5321 Student athletes are not paid salaries by the universities they work for. If I remember correctly, Cartman wants to know the universities' secret to having slaves (i.e. unpaid workers). Thus, when he tells Cartman they are "student athletes", Cartman assumes he is using a euphemism to refer to his slaves.
But the universities still won't be paying them. Under slavery, especially later on, some owners allowed their slaves to go work for wages part-time....
It's funny, I worked for a university's public safety department, where I was both paid a normal wage, and received free college classes. No one ever argued that they didn't have to pay us because we were already getting a free education, and we didn't have to keep our grade averages, or pass our classes to stay eligible to work. But then you flip around to the student athletes, who make billions of dollars for the colleges, and the universities were not paying them, because they were getting "free classes". The kids getting torn up on the football field couldn't get paid and receive free classes, but those of us telling you where you could or could not park your car in the garage outside the stadium were both getting paid and free classes and health insurance and vacation and sick days. Hell, I think there was even a free daycare if we had a child. Couldn't pay the athletes though, because that would have been unfair.
@Aanu Osunade detrimental because it is easy money and showering young kids with easy money makes them lazy and they need to train hard at this point not enjoy highlife. time for that will come later, for some of them. and making some kids rich would create a social divide between them and the rest of the students. many of these kids are dumb as fuck, they can only run forward, jump and catch. the trappings of easy money are especially dangerous to those.
@UCC0VXNpLLvP5JrFHuwrBx9w wtf? Shut the fuck up. If they want to act stupid with thier money its up to them cuz it's THIERS. And honestly watching some of the shit these "adult" NFL and NBA players do with the money they're supposed to be sooo much more mature with has me in shock. You've never seen cribs stupid?
@@TheAzynder There were three main arguments the NCAA used to justify not paying student athletes: 1. They're already getting paid by receiving tuition, course materials, and housing. 2. Allowing students to make money, not just NIL, would create an unfair recruiting field because athletes would go to the places with the highest pay. 3. An idea of "amateurism" which boils down to a premise that Universities should not be the place for professional sports. These points get a lot more complex, and none of them were accepted by the Supreme Court, but these are the reasons student athletes haven't been able to make money for over 100 years.
"This country was founded on the idea that one corporation could not hog all the slaves while the rest of us wallow in poverty" This statement is really really funny
That's usually how it goes. "WE have a good reason to not do this thing, but we won't elaborate cause that would then show we have no real good fucking reason. Other than lining our own pockets."
it is really insane... i remember a story about shabazz napier he was a point guard for uconn. they were a big underdog and won the championship. he later said in interviews that he wasnt eating because he was dead broke.. no time to get a job and the NCAA is making BILLIoNS off them
They should have also ruled for retroactive payments for the past NCAA stars that got the slave whip yet never made money in the pros to make up for it. What a scam they had going.
The fact that this clip seems so absurd but is actually rooted in reality speaks VOLUMES about the greed and corruption in student athlete sports. Cartman is the best! :D
Not just sports. Colleges in general are just ways to get as much money out of their customers (not going to validate them by calling them students) as they can, in exchange for as little as they can manage
@Happy DeLarge true, they indenture themselves to Walmart, and McDonald's and other low wage corporations or join the military and they NEVER understand their position as slaves in the system.
I love how the guy goes "A What?" when the secretary says another prestigious institution. Then toward the end of the clip he refers to his school as a prestigious university.
"Do you mean our student athletes?" "Student athletes." That is brilliant sir." "Now when it come to video games and name and likeness, how do we get around paying our slav...I mean 'student athletes, then?" Pure South Park gold.
this is the exact reason why NCAA 2014 was the last ncaa football game. because they couldnt figure out how to not pay the athletes but also use their likeness
@@Dreamer19454 universities don't pay their student athletes, although they do get money from their likeness. In very funny way with this bit SP is playing with idea that student athletes are slaves
This is honestly too true. I unfortunately played college football on scholarship because I'm from a poor family and wanted to get an education without putting myself in student loan debt. Lucky for me I broke my back playing the game and now I'm losing function in my legs and my penis and walking with a cane probably will be a in a wheelchair soon. Sometimes I wet myself because I can't control my bladder. The worst part is to think that if I had been working I would be covered in injury compensation. The university just threw me out on the street and treated me like shit. I struggled through multiple surgeries trying to finish my degree. I finished but now my body is so messed up idk what I'm going to do. What's worse is the University's are supposedly the leaders in being progressive in our society. But really they don't give a shit about anything but money.
You are absolutely right. We are nothing, but slaves to these university or college corporations. I am very truly sorry for what happen to you. I know you will get better. Take care.
I'm really sorry to hear this. There should be some safety nets like workman's comp for athletes injured during games or training. I wish you the best.
Sorry to hear it. I went to two major universities and they both treated me like shit. I was absolutely nothing but a cash cow to them. I tried going out for two different sports and was not even considered because I was "too short". 5 foot nine, the same height as Babe Ruth. I could run the 100 M in 11 flat, throw 200 feet with pinpoint accuracy, benchpress 320 pounds, stuff like that. They wouldn't even let me try out. Guess I was lucky. Oh, and my degrees are worthless, too. And I consider myself blessed, as I survived all they put me through. and I'm happy, healthy, and not living in the street, where they obviously wanted to put me. Good luck!
@@mrbranson73 that the college will make back at least doubled. The NCAA is a giant scam. Most college coaches are paid equal to Pro Sport coaches. Bigger schools are businesses. Cartman is actually dead on here.

The NCAA did not "pass it," they were forced to by the US Supreme Court ruling in favor of the student athletes being able to receive endorsement deals off their names/likenesses.
And now the NCAA is facing heat for a case they just lost over not paying their student athletes or allowing them to make money off their own likeness.
@@rafaelpedro9494 They excuse it with credits for not paying for classes. But then, if they paid their student atholetes a salary for playing on the team, the students could just pay for their own classes and pocket the rest.

Well originally 100 years ago it was just voluntary, playing for fun outside of class. There was no money in it. But then people gathered to watch so the schools built stands and charged admission and offered uniforms and traveling and even free tuition for the players. It had grown so that now there was money in it, but they never had to pay the players before so they still don't want to.
