Eric Clapton - She's Waiting (Live Aid 1985) 

I second this. I finally got to see Clapton live there a few months back and, while he wasn't perfect at 79 years of age, it was truly an honour to finally see him.

But then there may never have been Layla 😐

Don't think he was quite there yet. I think it wasn't until after the August album that he got and stayed completely clean.

We're all a better version of ourselves when we get clean & sober. Thank God. ☮✌

​@branwerks6978 you are correct and even then he was womanizing for some time. All covered in his book too...I think his wife may have saved him. Emotional sobriety is a tough one to find

I thought he was just fine. Hendrix didn't want to hear his voice, I thought he was legit and authentic.

Clapton and collins, great combo.

His touring members differed quite a bit from the session musicians on much of his 80’s stuff.

Wish he did some of this stuff on the current tour. Just saw him in Denver and the setlist was extremely lacking.

This particular tune is way up tempo compared with every other time it’s been performed. I actually prefer this version.

in rock most power chords don't have a major/minor identity--hence the 1-5-1 power chords. blues scales are built similarly to pentatonic so i don't think he's even thinking about pentatonic scales when playing, he's just going for the smoothest blues lick that comes to mind

@@joeylau7578 Obviously he did not rely on power chords in this tune. The substance here is the riff-alike chord progression G-C-Dm-C (after the modulation from 3:10 A-D-Em-D). I would say the minor chord is the color that makes the difference.

Eric was a great guitarist and singer but being with Cream helped him in his career. Jack Bruce wrote White Room and co-wrote Sunshine of Your Love.

It was played too fast and it sort of cheapened this great song. Listen to another version on a CD it is slower.

Chris Stainton (still touring with EC) played at both Woodstock and Live Aid. Marcy Levy went on to be half of Shakespear’s Sister singing their massive hit “Stay”. Duck Dunn a bass legend. Phil Collins flew on Concorde to perform at Wembley and Philadelphia. Tim Renwick an accomplished UK guitarist.

This could have gone on for 20 minutes if not for the time constraints

Watching MTV and ABC all day long; the only time my parents let me leave it for that long. They enjoyed it as much as my little kid self.

Definitely good times!! I watched every Live Aid along with Farm Aid every year. Those concerts would usually go for hours or days, that’s back when MTV was the bomb! Now we have nothing unless we come back to these videos! 🤘

Collins is great drummer, but as FIB 45 said, Jamie Oldaker is on first drums. Here is a direct quote from EC about Jamie Oldaker "“He has the best snare sound I’ve ever heard, he has the best restrained fills I’ve ever heard, and his bass drum is as solid as rock. He is unique, and the pocket is always perfect. The kind of man he is matches his drums,” Clapton wrote." RIP Jamie Oldaker...one of the greats.

Phil should have been the sole drummer on this. He wrote the drum part on the original recording.

@@roszela1 no buts with Phil, his prog drumming is legendary on top of incredibly difficult, Even Neil Peart has said Collins was an inspiration and his drumming on SEBTP is text book unparalleled stuff, this song is easy stuff for Phil

There were some great performances at Philly, and if they'd chosen a better opening song Simple Minds would have been a contender for day's best. Ultimately though Clapton was the USA show stealer. More remarkable as his set consisted of a song he'd never performed as a solo artist, a flop single and song on release not actually credited to him.

Clapton is awesome..he outlived most of his competition but has always been number one for me

He is one of the best for sure, but I think Hendrix is probably the best. He pushed the boundaries and was way ahead of his time.
