I tried benching 705 myself yesterday! It almost fell on my neck! I'm lucky I'm alive! The only thing that saved me was that I was unable to unrack it!

I think everyone in the powerlifting world, hates the way Eric Spoto benches lol. It's like damn, there he goes repping my max bench, and he's just playing with it. Love the way how he does really short reps and then gradually adds more motion until it's almost at that full range.
@jlirving
@jlirving 9 лет назад
One thing that annoys me is the way people just discredit others achievements. He's on gear, doesn't count, he's 300+ pounds doesn't count or the big one he's lifting equipped can't bench (lift) raw for shit. Like they're all strong, they're all competing in their separate fields. You don't run up to 400m sprinters and call them slow because Usain Bolt runs 100M faster than they do.

Fat_black-cat depending on if you include gym lifts and potential strong benchers, I think there are quite a few guys who have a chance at getting in the 7’s in comp this year. James Strickland’s training cycle is going really well, and J-ho has always been very close. Kirill just needs to decide to compete again and 750 could fall if he has a good cycle and stays healthy. Then there are Josh Bryant’s other guys who I can’t quite remember all of them but I think he has two or three more in the superheavies who all benched high 6’s this year. Also that guy who incline benches all sorts of crazy stuff on instagram, I think he hit 650 on incline with a duffalo bar, but I’m not sure how good he is flat. So much crazy potential, not to mention if Eddy Hall put some work in on bench he could probably get close to 7, even at a lighter body weight

half reps are the shit for training. everybody always rips someone for doing half reps but they're a great training tool, obviously Spoto loves it and bench monsters like Jeremy hoornstra and Derek Kendall do it too. Most pro bodybuilders can bench a ton without even thinking about it and they bench without locking out. I've started half repping when I bench for reps and my strength has gone through the roof, must underrated bench training tip I think.

Actually it's currently understood that we have no true genetic outliers in the sport because there simply aren't enough competing for there to likely be one. In other words, some day, someone will probably bench 1000 raw.
@Paolo-uq3fc
@Paolo-uq3fc 6 лет назад
@@Seraphim_Works I think that's an exaggeration. 800 maybe. Not 1000. People have been strength training for a while at this point. That's like saying somebody will run a 6 second 100 meter dash.
@Seraphim_Works
@Seraphim_Works 6 лет назад
@@Paolo-uq3fc the problem is that the true genetic outliers don't feel a need to compete. They're the types that already look jacked without ever being in the gym and bench over 224 their first time in the gym so they never really train.
@Paolo-uq3fc
@Paolo-uq3fc 6 лет назад
@@Seraphim_Works that's ridiculous. A bunch of genetic outliers ALREADY compete. U think the average gym rat could ever bench 600 even while abusing every substance known to man? No. It takes impressive genetics for a 600 lb bench, and even more so for a 700 lb one. Yes, there are probably stronger guys that have never competed. But nobody will ever bench 1000 raw. And I disagree. The people that are so gifted they could set records usually do. I myself know a guy who benched more than 225 his first time ever, but he's nowhere close to 700. I also know a guy who benched 195 @ 140 his first time ever, and he never reached a ridiculous number either.

How does anyone dislike this video. If you lift weights or even if you don’t how can you not appreciate this video. Spoto is a beast of the bench press and Stan is the fucking man. The way spoto presses is like a piston he is a very impressive presser.
@TheTrueFortress
@TheTrueFortress 10 лет назад
If most who watch this actually knew how unreal this was ... I mean, MY DEAR LORD. Each of these men is super strong (Stan being particularly impressive as a three-lift competitor), but Eric Spoto, as a bench specialist, is on a whole other level of freak. Very strong men can press around four hundred. To push over five, drugged or otherwise, is awesome. Six? Raw? You're in the land of the truly few. SEVEN? You're in the company of, what, two?

Eric Doesn't max out in training he saves that for meets. If he could do a 722 competition bench he might be able to hit a 750 with typical gym goers form if he did it fast with a little bounce because every powerlifter can lift more in the gym when form doesnt matter then on competition day when it does.

"correct" exercise techniques don't apply to elite level lifters. at one point in time he probably benched "properly" (Ive come to hate using that word in this context) but part of the reason he is who he is and accomplished what he accomplished is because he threw the book out (so to speak) and did what works for him

Taking roids doesn't automatically make you stronger, it just increases gains. You still need to work hard to be able to lift 705lbs. You just loose your braging rights if you've used steroids to do it.
@Fizyxx
@Fizyxx 10 лет назад
well said. I'm so tired of everyone just yelling "steroids" as if steroids replace hard work, dedication, solid diet and rest.
@KapitalJustice
@KapitalJustice 6 лет назад
negative captain. if a foreign substance induces the body to do things it cannot do in its natural state, its very much so responsible for all the gains. a human skeleton and joint can only take so much without reaching its moment of inertia. When you take a drug to drastically increase and actually generate new skeletal tissue, there's no comparison to what a person can naturally do.
