Coming from a 46 yr old civilian from Southwest Louisiana…thank you for your service SIR! After everything I’ve followed, read, and watched over the last 15+ years, I just don’t think a lot of us civilians can even begin to understand what the men and women of our military have gone through over the last “20”+ years! That's what the brotherhood of military service is about. He asked that he be taken so his men could live. Don't misunderstand, that bond doesn't exist in every unit, or among all service personnel. It's a bond that is built over time, a trust that must be earned. Frankly, there are some that never earn it. But many do. I never went to war, most of us don't. That's just the luck of the draw. But if I had to go, as a Navy Hospital Corpsman I would have gone with Marines. And I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Semper Fi, Trainwreck.
I have served alongside of people, human beings, in another uniform , during another time just like you. " Don't worry sir, I got you". That, one single statement from a gunny to an officer, tells anyone all they need to know. Within the ranks of any service branch, when that old worn out, beat up, NCO tells you he's got you? He means every damn word of it. The tears you see, are not for him. Rather they are for the two he lost that day and his sense of responsibility should be emulated. We don't need mroe people like this Major. No, Rather we should BE like this man. There's is a difference. Major, I doubt strongly you'll ever read this but in the event you do just know this.
