What an awesome find! I found him by accident as I falling asleep on the couch and he was playing with ZZ Wall. He's great because he reminds me of no one. A unique talent!!
I really love this guys playing, it's so cool , I want to learn how to play some of those chord voicings and licks, thanks Jason you always find music and videos of players that inspire me.
These type of R&B chords w/ the thumb over the top and chord fragments/runs reminds me that this is where Hendrix got these from, the R&B guitar scene.
hendrix also came up with a lot of stuff that is now rnb/ gospel vocab. also eriks not really using his thumb here he just always has it hanging over thats just how he plays
I watch a lot of guitar players play...I play...the first part of this is the most beautiful guitar performance I have ever seen... it's not even close. Eric makes his guitar into an entire choir inspired by the Most High...Claude hammercee!🤯🤯
When he played rhythm guitar for the Isley Brothers...........no offense but he brought a whole new life to their songs. I know Ernie Isley was very impressed
Black gospel guitar. That's how I play I learned that style of playing from growing up in the church. Curtis Mayfield's style. Your tone is great nice and clean
Now I know who he is, he played with a lot of people and the list goes on & on. I know one of them he's played with is Mary J. Blige, the Isley brothers, need I say more.
Eric I need some help! I want the quartet guitar flavor for my church ... any tips to make it make since? You are gifted! Leandrea and your were so amazing
after close examination i see he lost his place at 3:05, his playing is so mesmerizing you wouldn't know it unless you were transcribing lol. MAD RESPECT ERICK!!!
It’s really hard, man. I looked everywhere and couldn’t find much. It seems this style is just a small niche that lives between R&B and gospel church music. Even knowing a few names didn’t do me much good, because these guys typically just make a living playing back up in hip hop or R&B records. They only seem to play these smooth guitar based jams in sparse RU-vid videos here or there. Like Namm and other guitar related gear conventions. If it helps you at all, the same 3 names keep coming up: Erick Walls, Isaiah Sharkey and Spanky Alford. Again, it didn’t help me much to know their names, because there seems to be no recorded CD’s with this music in mind. The closest you can get to something like this, is smooth jazz records. Like in the style of Terence Young, which you can also find here in RU-vid. I hope this helps.
He's probably tired of this question, but I *NEED* to know: what's he using for his pick? Looks like something wrapped around his thumb, but not a thumbpick... or maybe it is - LOL! I can play very accurately with my thumb and fingers, but with a flatpick, NO. I'm a clutz. And I need to have that sharp attack of a pick, with the accuracy I can get with my thumb. What is he doing? Anybody know? Please help!
