an Eritrean cyclist has made history at this year's Tour de France. Biniam Girmay has become the first Black African to win a stage during the famous race.
Celebrating the moment, the 24-year-old rider dedicated his stage 3 victory to "the continent of Africa."
Later posting on social media... ''Let me open the door." A reference to his ambition to inspire more Africans to take up the sport.

Yes,Biniam is our pride and joy! Kimberly mentioned the main problem of visas for African riders and she was definitely right.This thing happened to one of our former rider “Daniel Teklehaimanot” back in a few years ago.

Cycling is the biggest sport in Eritrea and it has over century history in the country . Some journalists in the west have yet to do their work as journalists. Sunday is a cycling day for Eritrean cities and there is no shortage of cyclists in Eritrea . Get some digging in your reporting.

He won the mountain also we had an Eritrean mountain winner Daniel Teklehaymant I believe 2015. At tour of the France. Binianim is the second to win thw mountain today

He had his second stage win today, but not a mountain stage. Biniam Girmay is primarily a sprinter and has won two of the flat stages. He's also in the green jersey, which means he has the highest classification for sprinters. He also won stages in the Giro d'Italia in 2022. Daniel Teklehaymant didn't win any stages in 2015, but you're right, he wore the polka dot jersey in both the Critérium du Dauphiné and the Tour de France (king of the mountains).

This is such great interview, I appreciate those people and programs that work so hard to bring young Africans to get into these competitive team. I remember Daniel Teklehaimonet mentioning about visa, and how it really affected him, I hope that it gets resolve.
