Ended up loving him more than Wukong after playing through the whole game. So thankful that game science decided to present their story untarnished and as is.
Erlang Shen does not have 73 transformations. He has 72 transformations like Wukong. There is no such thing as 73 transformations in Chinese mythology. The numbers that appear in Chinese mythology are all composite numbers. For example, 72 transformations, 36 transformations, 28 constellations, and 18 arhats, etc.
Erlang is my second favorite Chinese god next to Wukong. I’m hoping that he will show up in the Lego Monkie Kid show one day. (In one version of the Lotus Lantern ChenXiang was trained under Sun Wukong to fight Erlang)
@@JLacay kinda unfair because he has bigger role in the original novel. Not only is he the only one who can match up to Wukong’s abilities, he’s also his new Sworn Brother. I don’t see why he had to be reduced to a background character especially after what happened in previous seasons
@@bluebelt1235 Couldn't agree with you more. I was upset to find that out when was looking through LEGO MK wiki. Erlang is such an interesting character in the mythos that I wish he had more of an important role in season 5 than being a background. Especially he's the nephew of the Jade Emperor.
I have watched many Chinese mythology movies and have always liked him,wu kong, bajie, nezha etc.and black myth made it so that many realise the story behind.
One more information, Er Langshen, is not his formal name. His proper name is Yang Jian. But people prefer to call him Er Lang Shen. Er means second, because his the second son, Lang usually used to refer to young and handsome man, shen means god. This nickname show people’s love for him.
The dynamic between Wukong and Erlang is what essentially inspired the hot-headed impulsive protag and the cool-headed serious bff/rival trope in Asian media. The quintessential example of 'frenemies' in Chinese literature. They're both outcasts, often butting heads but ultimately have mutual respect. They're friends as well as rivals.
Good lord, this video is 5 minutes of actual content stretched out to 30 minutes+. Obviously just generated by AI with how much it rambles on the same points.
Man when will you reach Hindu mythology 😅😅 it has more gods and goddesses who have appeared in mythology like katikkeya god of war and Ganesh god of success and wisdom
Erlang god surnamed Yang(杨). The name is " Jian(戬) ", Yang means poplar, Jian means to eliminate, cut off. He was the second of his brothers and sisters, so his nickname was Jiro ,Jiro=Erlang(二郎). Jiro is the second son.
I love this channel, i am a huge lover of Mythology, i am always looking forward to see who you do next, i love how you give lesser figures within Mythology some love and respect, i love all the pictures you used for each Mythology figure, keep up with the amazing work, you could puts all these into big beautiful books, you have earn a sub from me,
Erlang before become a god, is the son of general Yang Ye. The story of Erlang when he was still human also very interesting. Story about loyalty and family. They even have the historic palace in Kai Feng, China.
At first in the wukong game, i really thought Erlang Shen was the Jade emperor. Then i realized he was not and was a little disappointed for not showing Jade emperor in the game.
jade emperor does show up in the game. Remember in the cutscene bajie saw the lady secretly dating someone? That one is jade emperor and it is because of that bajie was banished from heaven since he saw something he was not supposed to see😢😢
@@Mortarion-xt9wpThat was in the original story.. but in the game he got banished because he witnessed the love affair between the moon goddess and jade emperor
I see that some people don't like Erlang Shen's appearance in the video, but Erlang Shen is actually a well-known young god. Since the Yuan Dynasty, there have been stories about him staying 18 years old forever and celebrating his birthday twice a year. In the story of Journey to the West, when Erlang and Sun Wukong first met, Wukong mocked him because Erlang was good-looking and looked young.
Erlang Shen ?😂the translation just read it out? I mean, "erlang" means "the second boy",cuz he is the second child of his family ,"shen" just means the "God",so call him "Erlang God" maybe the better choice? I guess……
and his name "JIan",the chinese character is "戬", that means " vanquish"、“wipe out”、“destroy”、“cut off” , so this guy is also kind of like one of the gods of war
Is something supposed to be wrong with that? Not trying to be argumentative I just genuinely want to know because It's not like they have real images and stuff of mythological characters
For those who come from Black Myth Wukong, know that Erlang Shen's depiction in Journey to the West is the most disparaging version of all of his legends because the Author lived in Ming Dynasty where the Emperor Jiajing indulged in Taoist Elixir making seeking immortality and ignored all state affair for over 20 years and triggered the beginning of the end of Ming dynasty. For this the author used the novel to ridicule Taoism and elevated Buddhism.
The Journey to the West didn't elevate Buddhism, but satirized the reality with the help of the gods and buddhas all over the sky. Therefore, both Buddhism and Taoism were devalued in the writings of Wu Cheng'en's old students. Heaven is an organization that even monkeys can't cope with, and Tathagata Buddha is a hypocrite who is full of lies and interests first.
@@ddding9518 Then why is Buddha the only one able to stop wukong? But the Jade emperor could not? In the story at the beginning, Wong is trying to reach immortality, which is ultimately the goal of Taoism. On this path becomes arrogant and so powerful, but not any of the Taoism deities can stop him. But then Buda put him in his place and afterwards he goes on the path of enlightenment, which is the path of Buddha.
@@ddding9518 if a story where a Buddhist monk is on his way to India to claim sacred scriptures that would enlighten all of china isn’t biased towards Buddhism itself that may be the biggest plot twist of the past couple millennium
There many Chinese actors with Western features who look similar to the pictures in this video: For instance, actor Yao Chi who is from Xian, China. Most recently he played the white haired prince in Fateful Love. The prototype of Third Eye originated also from lndian mythology. He who is one of the Three Main Gods : Shiva. When he opens his third eye in forehead the destructive power will be released ; Shive, therefore, is the god of destruction.
No, it's not. India wasn't the only place on Earth with legends about superhuman/being/God with extra eyes. And just because Buddhism is originated from India doesn't mean anything from Chinese mythology (which is mixed of Daoism + Confucianism + Buddhism) all originated from India. Chinese welcomed Buddhism (a religion founded by Nepalese) because of its philosophy and didn't accept Hinduism into China because it's god's system.
His Taoist gods have nothing to do with India. India is greatly influenced by Chinese culture and multinational ethnic groups (ruled by multiple ethnic groups). Moreover, India has no history. It often fantasizes about creating all cultures on earth. But the fact is that India is deeply influenced by many ethnic groups. Cultural influence. China also has a huge influence on Indian culture.

Actually there's something you need to know. He is an immigrant diety from the realm of Ahura Mazda. His true name is Vayu Weshparkar. He is being granted Chinese citizenship in Song Dynasty China. This is the Anthology version.
