The Unique Voice of Erna Sack Erna Sack (born 6 February 1898, Spandau, Berlin, - died 2 March. 1972, Mainz), was a German coloratura soprano of exceptional talent.
My grandfather was a flutist, and when "la Sack" gave concerts in Heilbronn & Stuttgart he played the flute to her Coloraturapieces...I own a signed Photo which
I just cannot get enough of her vivaciousness, charm and that voice was stunning. To the person who accuses her of being a Nazi lower down this thread I say did you realise that her husband was interned in a camp by the Nazis? She spent most of the war years trying to secure his release and keep him safe. This was one of the ways Goebbels office blackmailed German artists to appear for the Reich. A wonderful artist who deserves to be warmly appreciated.
I'm 74 on the 17th Feb., and NEVER knew of her, despite my 60+ years following opera & classical music in all its forms. Physically she reminds me of E Schwarzkopf, but in a different range, musically, of course. Today [05 Feb.] is the first I learned of her; Gott sei Dank for these videos and someone's devotions!
I'm so impressed that you've located some film footage of Erna Sack. I can remember listening to my father playing her music on LP's when I was a kid in the 60's, and was so intrigued with her voice. I've been trawling the net on and off for years trying to trace some of her music, hoping someone had digitally remastered it! Thank you
She must have been a star of unbelievable proportions then. I was born in 1938, but I think she may have been less popular in the US because of WW2. So beautiful, so athletic, so charming and a beautiful smile... and that voice. I'm a big Dessay fan, but even in the super high note part of her career Natalie couldn't equal the very top part of Sack's range.
True....but none can equal Dessays perfection of musicality and pitch. Her voice color is very even also. Her Gliere concerto for soprano is unmatched!
What an amazing voice 😍 Just discovered this. There’s an old Arab singer called Asmahan(Princess Amal al Atrash) She was the first Arab singer who sang opera and mixed the eastern song with the western. Her song “Ya Touyor” (O Birds) composed by the famous Egyptian musician Muhhamed Al Qasabji, is an influence of this piece of song that I just discovered. He kept listening to her voice answering the flute and cane up with the most important and most important song and gave to Asmahan. You guys should check it out.
1938 in imkanlarıyla ne güzel kaydetmişler. Bizim Koleratür Soprano Ferhan Onat ımız vardı Bir tek ses kaydı yok. Üzerine haber çekmişler. Kızı oyuncu Gül Onat ı herkesi aradım bulamadım Zamanında dünyanın 8 koleratür ünden biriydi Çok yazık Brn ondan Lucia ve Rigolettoyu izlemiştim 60 yıl önce
she had a good voice and was a good actress to the way her hair looks gives me the impression that she used peroxside and her hair was a darker color originally she was a good pair with joahnne she onl did two movies she prefer the conscert tour
She sounds off tune sometimes. Her high notes are head voice only! I prefer Mado Robin, who sang extremely high notes full voice. Sack becomes thin on the very high notes... She was known like the "Deustch Nachtigall" before War II. She made several films during Nazi Period. She took Brazilian citizenship in the 50´s...
Listening... I think it only sounds that way. I think both Robin and Sack used the same vocal positions, but their sound was different. Sack's middle and lower notes are much superior to Robin's , and Robin's highest register was a little fuller than Sacks. Both are amazing.
