This was a very fun podcast series, even as someone who has never seen an Ernest movie! I'll miss that "ERN-EST ROU-LETTE!" jingle...

"Wait, is there any point to this list?" Made some nostalgic thirty-somethings happy for a few months, if nothing else. Thanks again, guys. Gonna have to go track down Dr. Otto now.

Scared Stupid had my favorite gag in ALL the Ernest movies, and it was twice in the movie. He says "I never knew when to quit! Just ask my fourth grade teacher!" And it cuts to this stern woman in a quiet classroom with Ernest as a kid writing on the chalkboard, and all deadpan she says "He never knew when to quit." And he starts scratching the chalkboard and she smacks him in the head.

I guess we do know what he means after all.....

I honestly think the Ernest movies got better with age. As an adult, I really appreciate Jim Varney's acting range, and they clearly had fun making them - especially that Ernest Rides Again theme song.

I'd watch you guys review mediocre film series 7 days a week if I could.

It was cool to see someone breakdown these movies in such a strong fan like passion. It’s kinda like when you get a few hardcore Three Stooges fans together talking about their favorite episodes and going over which episode had the most or best jokes or them in their best full-form routine.

I came home from work one day, & herd my kids laughfing their faces off. Checking what they were watching it was Ernest Goes to Camp. My kids love Ernest. Gotta find more Enrest for them😂. Ernest saves Christmas is super under rated as a Christmas special.

As someone who didn't grow up with Ernest at all, this review series has been one of my favorite things I've watched in a long time. I don't think I've seen anything with Varney in it besides Toy Story, but I've really got a newfound respect for him now!

I saw Rides Again in theaters, my lone Ernest theater experience, lol.

Ernest Scared Stupid is way better than Hocus Pocus. So is The Witches. People need to chill out about Hocus Pocus.

I feel like you’re filmmaking sensibilities got the better of you by putting Jail and Otto so high. My family loved Earnest but Jail was one of the least of them. But I appreciated you saying this is your list, the Guaranteed Video list. And I respect how you got to those decisions. Loved watching this series and maybe in the future you can do similar series lists with actors or characters like John Candy or Pauly Shore. Thanks.

Watched every episode! Great stuff.

Saw Ernest scared stupid in the theater when it came out as a kid. My little sister (5 yo ) at the time had night terrors for months afterwards. We love Ernest. Goes to camp is our favorite.

I hope this series doesn’t stop. I know Ernest is one thing and you guys did a great honest job on reviews of these “films”. I would love to see you guys start another series. I have no suggestions. Maybe land before time? I dunno.

I hate to be this person (and I'm sure you guys have heard this), but, why haven't you guys covered "Knowhutimean? Hey Vern, It's My Family Album"? Dr.Otto arguably only had Ernest for a quick minute and yet, its on this list. I think its worth an episode to explore the family album as Varney explores many characters that are hinted toward throughout these movies. Though, I understand if you guys are burnt out.

I admit I initially skipped out on this series even though I've been watching all of Neil's videos since forever. But damn was this great. I've never seen a single Ernest movie, and yet now I'll defend that man with my life.

ive always been a little baffled at ryan's shift on christmas. in the original episode, he's totally on the side of it being fun and heartwarming, but for some reason, he bluntly says it sucks in this one. opinions can change, of course, im just curious what brought it on.

I recently watched Onyx The Fortuitous and the Talisman of Souls which tries SO hard to be Scared Stupid and completely forgets you need to make your weirdo manchild lovable.

In my opinion the hidden gem of the Ernest body of work is the Saturday morning tv show "Hey Vern, Its Ernest!" It was a children's show written by John Cherry and Coke Sams. They were able to experiment with Jim Varney and the Ernest character by putting him in short funny skits. Even a callback to Dr. Otto and other inside jokes here and there. Very well done series. And thank you guys for giving Ernest some well deserved coverage. He seems to be forgotten and missing from a lot of the recent Nostalgia trends.

Looking up his IMDB I see that he was on *multiple* variety shows in the 70's, (Hee-Haw and the type of stuff my Grandparents would watch). Funny to think there's an entire era of Jim Varney material out there, some lost and some only on those big VHS sets of stuff like "Pink Lady and Jeff"

Ernest goes to Africa is in my top 3.

Ernest Rides Again was the last Ernest movie I loved. I didn't like Slam Dunk or School very much and Army even less. Also, when I first saw Africa in a video store I was surprised they'd made another one. I'm putting Rides Again at 5.

You know what I think killed those later movies. In between ""Ernest Goes To Jail" or it could've been "Ernest Scared Stupid" to when "Ernest Rides Again" came out it was a few years in between he hadn't done anything in a while for a period of time. Not even a commercial. So to me people sort of had forgotten about him & the Ernest Character.. And the movies was moving toward a different & younger audience. Kind of like "Robin Williams Movies" people got tired of him doing those sticky comedies. And once again people was ready to move on. So Ernest tried to hold his own. But the audience was changing. Ernest had his own Saturday Morning Show for a season or two & once did commercials after that for a period of time when he did "Ernest Rides Again" he didn't show up anywhere for a few years so people forgot who he was. Just didn't stand out anymore. But at the same time I think he was going through a divorce in Jim Varney's real life problems.

I've loved this series, but I'm looking forward to these guys making other kinds of things again. Spending half a year reviewing one low-budget film series I've never heard of was surprising and great, and I'm glad to have gone on this journey with them. But contrary to other comments here, I'd hate for this sort of thing to become their entire thing (and I don't think it will).
