@@barbaramilone2800 I think gomer was only on for a year, and he became so popular, it's sad that they have the spin-offs that really detract from the show, too bad don knots left for contractual reasons. They should have continued to expand the community with new actors it should have been ongoing they could have even evolved from rural country to city, when Timmy grew up and went to the city, why didn't Lassie move to the city, they didn't have to do the rural Purge they could have done the shift to the city.
You got you got that right there ain't no shows on like they used to be it's all gor and blood and it just makes me ill to watch TV I live out in the country and I watch RU-vid an d the Pluto Pluto has every know it's Tubi TV and it's free you getting on the Internet
Even now in this day & age, I’d much rather watch the Andy Griffith Show than most if not all the junk that’s on tv today!!! Some time back after being diagnosed with a brain tumor, my had to take a new job on the other side of country & when I moved out there with him we didn’t have cable to watch. So we went to a Cracker Barrel for dinner once & wound up buying several episodes of the Andy Griffith show as well as the Beverly Hillbillies! We watch these over & over!!!
I love how even though he was such a fan favorite, the writers knew he should only be used sparingly so he wouldn't overstay his welcome and become an annoyance like scrappy.
My favorite character. I love the episode where Earnest T. Is at the Darlings, trying to court Darlene. Banjos, guitars, playing furiously, rocks flying through the windows, men singing In perfect pitch, snoring, and a crazy wedding! This show was one of the best.
Let me be your salty dawg or I' won't be yur man at all. Honey let me be yur salty DAWG 🎵. That was straight up country blue grass music by the Darlings 🏺
I love the serenade of Ernest T. Bass, it gets me everytime laughing 😄. The Andy Griffith show has so many characters that keeps me coming back for humor I can't get enough of.
Ernest T Bass had my whole family cracking up. He was hilarious. He really played that part ,so well, even the kids in the background couldn't stop laughing.
Ernest T was my favorite supporting character on AG show. The "How do you do Mrs. Wiley" is still a running joke in my family, when we have not seen each other for some time.
It was always a special treat when Ernest appeared on the set.He was such a character and outrageously entertaining with the dialog that he could convey. He certainly put a lot into only 5 episodes, all of them so memorable.
Howard Morris was a comedic genus! How he came up with such a character, the world will never know! Lol! A true original, one of a kind character that will keep us all laughing forever! Thank you Mr Morris, for Ernest T Bass! I can't stop laughing whenever I watch him doing Ernest T!
With the exuberance of a child, and a mind to match, Earnest T. Bass was the perpetual 'problem' that couldn't be solved. He was uncouth and unkempt, yet still lovable.
@@janetmccoy2192 He directed several episodes of Andy Griffith Show among other accomplishments: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howard_Morris#Directing_and_later_career
He directed most of the episodes he was in and several others. He also appeared as a TV repair man. On an episode where Andy and Helen have a day off and Barney keeps interrupting them
The funny thing is, that army recruiter, appears in more episodes than Bass does.( I don’t know his name) and he gets a full time roll on Gomer pile U.S.M.C as sergeant Slater . He played Sam the butcher on the Brady bunch!
I could watch Ernest T. Bass 100 times a day and it STILL wouldn't get old! Always laughing so hard I thought that I would tear up or fall flat on my ass from laughing so hard. I can't help but love him! Throwing rocks, and that episode with Mrs. Wiley and his sweetheart Romina and anothet hilarious one was "The Education of Ernest T. Bass". I loved EVERY episode that he was in! He plays his part "the nut" very well! I love him and I think that I even have a crush on him because I just think he's so sweet! Too bad he's already gone because I love Ernest T. Bass!!💕💚⚘⚘💟😇
That Earnest T. Bass was the funniest man I ever seen. Hard to believe he was just in 5 episodes. That's how good he was to make that much of an impression in just 5 episodes. I've seen these episode's more timesthan I can count and I still laugh. They all played off of one another so well.
Brilliant actor 👍love the way adds 😂😂😂 boy could he serenade by rapping, way ahead of his time 👍👍👍 love his cute laugh 🤣 best rock thrower 😁 awesome dance moves Ernest T. 😂 Thanks for the laughs Howard Morris 💚 Rest In Peace 🙏
I interviewed Howard Morris at NBC's Burbank Studios back around 1996 for a writer's magazine. He may have been the most enjoyable subject I ever interviewed, and if was hard to believe that, as memorable as Ernest T Bass was, he appeared in ONLY 5 episodes.
Not only was this a memorable character on the show but Morris was really a force as a voice actor for many many cartoons during the sixties. His portrayal of this character was PURE comic genius. Additionally, anyone who grow-up watching Hanna Barbera cartoons will certainly remember the voice and its comedic inflections. Now you are able to place the face with such a great voice actor.
In real life Ernest T. Bass. Was a very intelligent person. He directed some episodes of Andy Griffith plus other programs. Had done some serious acting as well a comedy show with Carl Reiner. He was multi talented.
Mr. Howard Morris aka Ernest T Bass was a delightful part of my childhood memories. Don't you wish the good people could live forever. Oh yea, they do. See you in Heaven dear Ernest T.
Ernest T still cracks me up today. Love the episode where Barney comes into the room and Ernest T says I can t here your amminities. The only thing funnier than watching Ernest T is watching Barney, and Ernest T together.
My grandmother died in 2004. My grandfather was living alone, but was healthy and able to keep house after her death. BUT I was worried that he might be lonesome for her. I would go by my grandfather's house to check on him after I got off work. I wanted to make sure he was ok (he was 91 yrs old then). My grandfather would ask me to stay for awhile and keep him company. We would eat dinner & spend time watching the National news at 5:30 (Dan Rather). I would stay a little longer to help keep my grandfather's mind off my grandmother. At 6:00 we would turn channel to TVLAND. The channel would show 2 episodes of "The Andy Griffin Show" every evening from 6:00 to 7:00 PM. The first set that we watched (as I recall) had both the Darling family and Ernest T on the show. As many times as my grandfather remembered seeing that show through the years...those characters were new to him. I remember him turning to me laughing...(thank God) and he said that he didn't think anyone could be as funny as Barney Fife on the Andy Griffin show (until he saw Ernest T.) Thank you, Howard Morris, for helping my granddad through the grieving process. He lasted a whole year after my grandmother passed...and I know it was because of this show (and this character) that helped him make it!
He was brilliant in acting, writing, and directing. I wish he could’ve been my neighbor. “ People in glass houses, shouldn’t throw stones.” Ernest T. , the epitome of that quote…
I agree, especially in the color episodes, you needed a character like Ernest T. Bass then. I loved the episode where he meets Malcohlm Merryweather and he wanted to fight him because he was an Englishman, I'd loved to have seen Ernest T. and Warren interact it would have been pretty funny I believe.
@@sportsygirl8 Ernest T. Bass referred to Malcolm as an Englishter. And yes Ernest T. and Warren together I would have never stopped laughing at those to idiots.
@@HB-pg9sc Yeah, that was so funny how he said Englishter, I'd imagine Howard Morris had to have been giggling after saying that and the way he said it too...lol. Same here! I wished that would have happened would have made for an episode or 2 with Warren in it much better. Warren was such an annoying idiot, whereas Ernest T. Bass was a little annoying, but at least he was actually funny.
HE only did 5 episodes But in my mind he was a lead character unforgettable earnest T. bass one of the funniest actor's of the 1960's'.don't forget to catch his other work for the untouchables. He played a gangster.
I think his appearing - and rightfully so, as the "lead character" because he was outstanding, is why he was LED OUT of the series: Andy Griffith was known to be moody (even violent at times - throwing things, acting out) and he only got along with a few people. He was also likely to be VERY jealous of the attention Howard Morris got. He didn't like to share the scene - except for with Don Knotts: his lifetime best friend, and also one of only the two people he could tolerate on the show (they weren't afraid of him): - Aneta Corsaut (his many years lover) and knotts. - But again, Griffith would frequently pitch actors from the series when he felt they took attention away from him.
For those that don't know, the character "Ernest P Worrel" was inspired by "Ernest T Bass" and if you don't know who that is you can look him up. The characters act and dress similarly but their are some differences that make them unique, the actor who played him was Jim Varney and he had his own line of Ernest movies so if you loved Ernest T Bass and want more of him, this may be a great substitute for more content. Both are legends
Howard Morris reprised his role of Ernest T Bass in Return to Mayberry. It certainly did bring back a lot of fond memories when he first appeared on The Andy Griffith Show. Rest In Peace forever. You will be missed but never forgotten. June 25, 2020 @ 1:00 pm
Howard Morris was such a great actor. You would never know he was acting. Plain and simple he submerged himself into this part with every thread of his body.
@@dougmontgomery1868 If you watch the episode called "Mountain Wedding", you will hear Earnest T. brag about being "the best rock thrower in the county". Not sure what that has to do with hitler, but ok.
@@stephenlally6009 Rock throwing to damage property and intimidate people. No appeal there. What was the purpose of Kristallnacht? (Cf. the ending of _Blues Brothers)_
Ernest T. Bass was the best they should have had him on for so many more episodes!! The best!! I loved sis seranadin to Charlene Darling... quite a catchy little ditty!! He should have recorded it!
They should have done a spin off for the Ernest T Bass character and gave him his own show! Just imagine how good that would have been. Either that or they should have made him a regular character on The Beverly Hillbillies!
Too bad that Ernest T. was not in more episodes. What a funny, memorable character! I guess watching them for decades makes us feel he was in more shows than five episodes.
@@taylorkendricks599 Didn't andy sing oh my darling with them. That may have had some influence or if not with them, maybe produced liked it and used the name for them.
It speaks volumes about the character, writers and of course the actor himself that he was only in 5 episodes? Amazing. I watched him over 55 years ago and to this day I still have the memory of his character pop up in my mind periodically. The man definitely made an impression on this 6-year old going on 64.
My husband and I named our male guinea pig Ernest T and our female Romina. We both love Ernest T!!! He was quite a handsome young man! R.I.P. Howard Morris Thank you for the laughs!
Two of my favorite scenes . The first, being school. Counting with his feet Second is when he had gotten a uniform but still couldn't get a girl. He told Andy that he wrote her a love note and tied it to the prettiest rock and threw it through her window. When Andy asked what her reply was, Bass said she couldn't say nothin The rock hit her right here in the head. Ha!!!!!
May 29, 2021; La Verne, CA He was hilarious! I loved watching episodes with him in it. One of the funniest characters ever! Thanks for posting. Greetings from Southern California!
Howard Morris was one of the funniest men on tv. He was talented. Deserved more tv time than the Andy Griffith show. Should have Ernest t Bass movies. And Red Skelton was another good one. Most of the good ones have left us. May you all rest in peace. Forever loved by millions.
Each episode had something special that you couldn't forget. Aunt Bee, Gomer, Goober, the Darlings, and many more, they were characters that made the show genuine.
My favorite show of all time, I watch episodes over and over. I know almost every line of every episode. There were many Great characters created on this show n Ernest T Bass was just one of them. What a great legacy they left behind. May they always rest peacefully . They just don't make them like this anymore. Thank you for the upload, it was thoroughly enjoyed.
@@tammybrown3582 yeah i didn't like the etb character. Except it was funny when barney dressed up as bride instead of the girl,& when the veil was lifted he found barney!! And he was regular on syd ceaser show i think.
