Here's what Ernie Ball Music Man say about it:
"We are proud to introduce the Cutlass in a new HSS pickup configuration. Aside from the bridge pickup, the HSS Cutlass retains all of the familiar elements of the original including alder body, oversized 4 over 2 headstock and super smooth modern tremolo. The bridge pickup in the HSS is a custom wound Music Man ceramic humbucker with a vintage sound that compliments the single coils yet has plenty of crunchy rhythm and biting lead tones."

Terrific demo! Not only really wanting the HSS with the rosewood, but recently started zeroing in on wanting the Victory V40 for a pedal platform. I remembered that you used it in the video and found your demo on it as well. Your reviews are superb, and I second the comment about needing an octave fuzz!

+buckshotjenkins Thanks so much for the kind words man! I can't recommend the music Man or the Victory enough! The clarity and tone from each of them is second to none. Thanks for checking out the videos! Every body needs an octave Fuzz!

Thank for the good demo. One question though. Have you tried this with germanium fuzz? This is an issue that none of the demo of the guitar deals with. Since the circuit is buffered there might be some issues in dynamics with germanium fuzzes which are notoriously sensitive to everything in signal chain before them.
@JacksonBrooksby
@JacksonBrooksby 7 лет назад
Admittedly this is something I didn't consider when making the video and I can see that it might cause problems for some people who use a lot of germanium pedals. None of my fuzzes are germanium so it has been no problem for me so I can't provide any personal experience. After a quick google search there are a couple of threads regarding this, I would recommend checking them out. People don't seem to have run into too much of a problem but maybe it would be nice to have an internal dipswitch to bypass the buffer! Lets hope on the 2018 Music Man models. I wouldn't let this put you off this amazing guitar however, personally I would suggest the advantages of having an onboard buffer outweigh the disadvantages, but thats just me. Hope this helps :)

Hi, thank you for the reply. I have done the same google search earlier and run probably to the same threads as you did. It would be nice if someone demoed the guitar with fuzz. But then again, it is always best to do it yourself if there are any stores nearby that have these axes. ;-) I have buffers in my signal chain so that is not the issue here. It would be nice to have the option to choose whether or not to use it. But then again the silent circuit is active circuitry that requires buffer to operate, you would lose that in the trade. But some extra hum with fuzzes isn´t exactly a problem... :-D Music Man guitars are nice, so I have to think about this one.

I haven’t tried it but I think you’ll be ok with any fuzz that has a low impedance input. I don’t think it has to do with germanium vs silicon. I think it has to do with matching the impedance. The old fuzzes expected a high impedance signal that the circuit could load down to sound right. The Cutlass will put out a low impedance signal that will be immune to this loading down effect and might not match to give the desired sound.

Better than a strat sound wise? Opinion based... Based on the pick up types, string type, play style, skill level, amp, temperature etc etc and the luck of how good the wood in it resonates and all that jazz... Sometimes a squire or american standard is built so amazingly well that it can often put a custom shop or master built guitar to shame in some respects. But as far as these new cutlasses go... Opinions aside... Here's some facts. Comes with locking tuners. Silent circuits. Stainless steel frets. 5 bolt neck plate. Better action. Springless whammy bar. Countour neck joint allowing higher fret play easier than ever before. Truss rod wheel on the body. You can't call those downgrades... They all help make the guitar last longer and help make it easier to play and maintain. Something to think about if considering getting a cutlass. The only downside in my opinion really is that the color options and over all specs variety is a bit more limited with the cutlass vs the fender strat but hey... Nothing is perfect and the cutlass has plenty of kool looks so it's good enough unless you want a neon green or purple cutlass or something lol.

Unfortunately the cutlass is noisy in Europe/UK/Australia. The noise reduction system generates opposite phase 60HZ signal to cancel “60 cycle hum” wich is about USA electricity (110V/60HZ). In UK you have 50HZ so... “50 cycle hum”. Result, you have opposite phase 60 cycle hum from the noise reduction system plus your own ground white noise (or not so much, it depends).
@JacksonBrooksby
@JacksonBrooksby 7 лет назад
+Stainless Steel Hmm that is very interesting. I haven’t had massive problems with noise, the single coils are a lot quieter than standard single coils however they are not 100% silent, maybe this is why. Seems like a bit of an oversight on Music Man’s part... I will have to do some research and maybe get in contact with the company and see what they have to say. I will let you know what I find out...

Stainless Steel no problem in australia according to brett kingmans reviews of musicman guitars with the silent circuit.

did you get any reply about this? is it still worth buying if youre in the UK? its not mega noisy or anything?
@JacksonBrooksby
@JacksonBrooksby 6 лет назад
+Jonathan Wheat From my research and experience I have absolutely no problem with noise in the UK... it’s super quiet! The plug sockets in my room have always been a little noisy but in every other situation the guitar has been silent.

hate the active circuit. that you can't switch that shit off. maybe I could take the whole thing out. but then why buy a guitar new, just to take the electronics out and pay more? meh.

The biggest downfall for these amateur guitar demos is choice of material. The material should display the guitar's ability and not the ego of the player. My opinion.
