Hell yeah dude. These guys are up there with all my other favorites like Uneven Structure, Volumes, Vildhjarta, Animals As Leaders, The Contortionist, Periphery, After The Burial, Born Of Osiris, In Exile, Aliases, TesseracT, Stories, Sequence Of Discord, Impending Doom, Molotov Solution. Damn, I got a lot of favorites. Meshuggah is on top of that entire list though of course :]
I have to say this, but none of Erras other songs even come close to how good this song is. They just completely nailed it with this song. The chorus is absolutely breathtaking, and the verses are so fast paced and constantly changing, it feels like I hear something new every time I listen to this. This song just NEVER gets boring no matter how many times I listen to this. And the solo....just wow. Not to mention it sounds like it has a more powerful and meaningful sound than all of their other songs. Nothing on Augment even comes close to this in my opinion.
Haha you seem to have the exact same thoughts as me about this song. I hope on their next album they make less generic songs like hybrid earth and try to make more songs like this!
There are some absolute BANGERS on this album and this is one of em! Still thought Augment was a more polished album overall but completely agree about the chorus and riffing on this track - fucking sublime!
I've been a fan of Erra for a long time now and this song still amazes me how well written and balanced it is and 0:56-1:08 is probably my favorite piece from them. True work of art right here. Well done

This song has gotten me through a lot. Every time I struggle, I put it on to remind myself that I can get through the pain and self-doubt. Songs like this will live in eternity for me. It's on my "sad days" playlist alongside some of the greats from Metallica, Judas Priest, Opeth, Pantera, and Dream Theater.
Clean vocals can be used anywhere regardless of how heavy it is. This band is extremely heavy and technical and the cleans fit perfectly in their sound. This band has its own sound really, I havent heard a band sound similar to this.
Has to be one of the best bands of the genre in the last 5 (or more) years. Highly technical, yet open and creative; brutal yet atmospheric; expected and unexpected. Reminiscent of how I felt when I first heard Dance Gavin Dance's "Downtown Battle Mountain," but with more aggression.
When I say that comment, I first thought Ms. Garrison, the female substitute teacher. But then I realized that you miss Garrison in the Erra band. I miss him as well, but this is the Erra we have today.
Leave the dude alone!! His cleans work with the music, plus it's nice to hear singing after such a harsh sound, it's like going from their dubbed playing to the solos... This band is good, it's nice to hear a band that mixes riffs and solos with the crazy little breakdowns.... :)
Erra are like the farthest from generic. This album is a masterpiece i never get tired of hearing it. And the cleans are amazing, saying that his singing sounds like a female is ignorant iv'e heard other bands who incorporate cleans and it sounds even more feminine than this smfh.....
I've found in my experience, everyone I've seen call Erra 'generic' listen to all the bands who jacked erras sound before hearing them. They set that bar themselves

Apparently everyone, Garrison unknown, we're huge dicks to him in the later months. He did an AMA on I think Reddit where he partially touched on that. If you don't know about it, he does a new metal project called The Artificials.
+Salvatration Halex I really miss Garrison alot, but unlike everybody else, I miss Alan as much as Garrison I think. The musicality of Erra went down with the new album.
Regardless, something definitely happened between Jesse and Alan. Their songs orchid and Fox Follow, respectively seem to touch on it if i'm reading into them right. However even if they were to make amends we probably won't be having an original lineup reunion as Alan's new band is doing pretty well and Garrison is working in a high position according to Alan.
This and Obscure Words are the 2 best ERRA songs.. Maybe render the void, I miss this ERRA. Augment was decent, moments of clarity Was decent, drift is just not the same band. Bring back impulse ERRA :(
i agree with that list just...just one question....really though. what is SO GOOD about meshuggah? my friends and i make fun of a song by them that is so very simple and the most commonly known band..IS MESHUGGAH i mean none of those other bands top them? i just dont see it.
To me the song means to take control of your life. Inventing and recreating the meaning of life to empower your experiences and personal growth. Not being a victim and taking action and responsibility for yourself. We must use our knowledge and not lose focus from everyday distractions. Of course it's not all happy lovey dovey joyfulness all the time.. we get in ruts and negative tides, we make mistakes but pulling ourselves out of it and remembering that we must generate presence from within is fundamental. Just sit back and let Jesse's angelic cleans pull you out of that shitty position lol.
I noticed I rambled. but my point was to me each lyric of the song can make up a whole different story for every listener. the word Invent is just the bands way of showing how to Invent a reality that is created by you. full control of the inventions , you are the creator and you need to Invent.
i was backing up cleans in metal, if you had any reading comprehension. i said personally these are horrible, but can work in a metal band if done right.
I love Erra, but just my opinion, I think the clean vocals can get a little bit too high pitched at times, and it kinda ruins the song for a second. Dont get me wrong, Jesse is a boss at what he does. Erra definately deserves more credit for their hard work.
Generic....idk most bands today that you would see on warp tour, all stars, bamboozle, etc. are bands that sing, pop, and punk/hxc/metal. Metal should be aggressive, intense, brutal, and crazy. Clean vocals should just belong back to emo genre.
