It’s all about virtuosity and STYLE. Erroll is off the charts in both cases. In my humble opinion, no other pianist even comes close. There are more than a few fine and even great pianists and I have studied many of them but Mr. G is my hands down favorite. I am 82 years old and had photo taken of he and I when a lad fifteen years. It hangs proudly in my bedroom. If I were single it would be poster size in my living room. Very few days go by when I am not listening to his music. A good deal of the remaining time is spent with his music running through my head. Crazy huh!
Erroll Garner is surely one of the greats, but I believe Art Tatum and Bud Powell are strong contenders too, each being sublime at their own particle style and method. Bud Powell is my personal favorite, many of the reasons being how much I can relate to aspects of his life and the amount of compassion I feel for him, but Erroll Garner fills me with such a powerful and radiating happiness that it makes me want to spread it to everyone. That is a very unique power he has that I one day wish to be able to induce in people myself. I believe Mr. Garner really had something special, as did the other two I mentioned. I loved reading your comment! You put it very well. Have a wonderful day and enjoy your tunes :)
Dude I absolutely love Errol garner but I gotta say…Oscar Peterson? Liiiike dang. His quick style and just the sound he commands out of the piano is anazing
Yo lo descubrí el año pasado y tengo 65.....nunca será tarde para descubrir este majestuoso músico; lo sorprendente es que nunca aprendió a leer música. Saludes desde Colombia.
Vintage Erroll Garner. Always a pleasure to hear the little genius at work. He died far too soon, aged just 55 on 2nd January 1977. My favourite jazz pianist.
Ten-thousand stars!!!! Erroll to me was the most massive talents in music the world has ever produced. His music is like musical joy. Self-taught, having never taken a single lesson, he did things that many pianists said was impossible. He is my favorite musician regardless of what instrument he played. Sometimes he just makes me laugh untill I cry tears of pure joy. He was like a God to me and he made people so happy with his amazing genius and artistry!
Astounding playing! His genius is profound, is improvisation is stupendous and is awe inspiring. Such Mastery of the pitch space. His connection to the supernal is mystical.
Pure, unadulterated, 100 percent, uncut, mastery of the ivories. We're witnessing the joy of a GENIUS at work and play! R.I.P. oh great one! What a legacy! 🎹🎹🎹 🎶🎵
If anybody on this planet knows of a jazz pianist who was or is better than Errol Garner please name him/her and place their playing on world news for us all to judge.
8:15 este músico no tiene que mirar el teclado,es el único que lo hace, desde la década de 1930, cuando tocaba en el carne hi hall con un memorable trío maravilloso ❤❤❤❤
That's Jose Mangual on Congas and I believe Ike Isaacs bass and Jimmy Smith drums, Jimmy I saw with Lambert Hendricks Bavan at Birdland on a bill with John Coltrane.
Technical education please. How did Erroll only have to hear a song to get it then engraved in his memory to play for us? How does that work? hundreds of songs.
Any of you guys remember that movie face off with John Travolta and Nicolas Cage I'm going to cut my own face off to this song this is a great song to cut your face off too!!!!
