Just cause I read some comments about that topic: Of course I also loved and appreciated Manizha's feminist message. Only mentioning her performance related moments and calling Destiny the "feminist queen" probably was a poor choice. With Destiny, I just meant that I loved the message of her song and not that she was "the most feminist" (if there even is such a thing). Well anyways Manizha definitely deserves all our love for being so outspoken about women's rights, especially as a Russian woman herself! It takes a lot of courage to stand on that stage, being from Russia, having to cope with all the hate thrown her way and still being so strong and powerful! So please: Stream her music and support that woman cause she is one to watch!
Mad respect for Manizha's being brave and giving voice to Russian women, but for me personally, the true "feministas" of the 2021 Eurovision were The Black Mamba from Portugal. Tatanka, the vocalist, seamlessly personified the most invisible and vulnerable of women: a prostitute; a woman with an addiction and broken dreams still holding on to hope and believing in love. And The Black Mamba did this with so much class and tact showing dignity and respect for the story of that lady they once met. I'm honestly happy that for once a group of men choose to wear the skin of a woman and not make a drag show out of it! Absolute respect for those five men, they deserve it👏👏👏 True gentlemen and real feministas!
It felt really nice to see Manizha included in your video C: we rooted for her even knowing that victory is unlikely and as a Russian woman myself, I really appreciate your recognition, thank you so much!!
This is very well clarified! There were so many great artists in this year's contest, we must recognize all their talent and support the one's we fell most connected to! Thank you for this video ❤️🇧🇷
The fact that they had a person dressed as a middle finger and they didn't allow Finland to put up their middle fingers during their preformence because the channel is "family friendly" so they painted them lmao
@@absolutelynotellen most Europeans don't know the artists before the event either :) that's so cool you were watching all the way from Indonesia!! Please let me know who your favorite was this year 💝
@@carlijn4348 yeah, I'm not saying that he doesn't speak any English at all (buthe definitely doesn' tunderstand any French, unlike his bandmates, but his language skills are really lacking and definitely not good enough for giving interviews or holding deep conversations. Just like in my home country and probably anywhere else, those with English given names are also the ones with the most limited English skills.
Okay but we have to talk about how brave and strong Manizha is. She was getting all this hate from her own country and still didn't give up. A lot of Russians were saying that Manizha is not actually slav to represent Russia on the contest. A lot of them were judging the femenist message (strangely, most of them were women). So yeah i respect this woman with all of my heart❤
Russia was really catchy. I think that one of the main reasons why the song was criticised the rhyme that Manizha used. A rhyme like that is considered vulgar (by the rules of the Russian language and I am not sure abt this cause ive been learning for only a month), esp in the first part ABAB, but to rhyme it she used the same words polye malo and then again polye malo. I disliked the lyrical arrangement tbh. However the message was really nice and the performance was the bomb.
@@justarandompersonontheinte3118 yeah, I'm not exactly a fan of the style either. It's such a chaotic mix of pop and traditional motives and the English parts were weak. But I loved the second verse and the message ofc
She's also an incredible human - one of the few famous Russians who is an outspoken LGBTQ+ rights activist, and she's also a Goodwill Ambassador for Refugees at the UN
Guys let's take moment to apprecate Nikki! She did soo well, and it really isn't easy doing a huge show with a tight schedule like that. The German translator seemed to be really fond of her as well, he kept praising her. Well done Nikki!!!
The Finnish commentator also admitted to having become a full fan of Nikki during the contest and really wished he could take a selfie with her, alas, social distancing rules.
I started to cry when Manizha sang together with videos of Russian women😭 There were women of different race, nationality, religion. A lot of russian feminists and queer activists, heroes of WW2, actresses and artists, there also was hijabi woman who defends women and children living in muslim-regions of Russia. It was so brave and important, because in Russia there are a lot of homophobic and racist politicians in government. We even have a “anti-propaganda of LGBT+” law🤦♀️ As a half-russian half-caucasian bisexual girl I’m so proud seeing Manizha representing my country. I’m really happy for Italy, they deserved their victory 100% (and their song also stuck in my head), but Manizha became the winner of my heart. Love from Russia ❤️ (sorry for my English)
Your English is good, don't worry!!! Also, I'm glad you feel proud of Manizha, I'm not Russian so I didn't know all the nuances of the issues in Russia, and reading your comment I can see how important she is and it's good to see women like her given a platform! When she came on I greatly admired her, her performance was amazing, and my commentator made me aware that she was a feminist and a progressive woman which only increased my admiration, and reading your comment and seeing just how progressive she is, has again increased it. I watched with my friends and we all agreed to vote for different countries and one of them was Russia, Manizha made a great impact on us! Love from the UK xx
@@Crazycat123 Thank you so much! I think this Eurovision was special. There wasn’t any big fanwars, and it was a pleasure to see singers from different countries making friends, sharing their culture and admiring each other’s art. This year Eurovision united a lot of people - as Eurovision should do. Hope next year won’t disappoint❤️
@@annaanna4248 Yeah, it really was!! Moments like this really make me appreciate Eurovision, and I too hope that next year will be as uniting as it was this year!! I think what made it even more special this year is that it worked to unite everyone during this pandemic, when we needed it the most, especially since last year was cancelled! Long may it carry on!! Xx
у вас буквально убивают феминисток . отослать манижу от россии выглядело как насмешка надо всеми этими женщинами . ваша власть вас снова трахнула в уши.
This was an amazing idea, and while I do support Nikkie constantly doing this, I also feel it should be like relegated to someone for each country that's hosting
LookLab really changed the way I viewed artists before their interviews, which also made me able to appreciate all songs a lot more if there wasn't a LookLab
@@Justinya0 A lot of the same style songs sound like each other, that is why people are getting tired of generic pop music also. I can find like 5 songs that sounds like bad romance. Nothing new unfortunately.
lol me too, the song wasn't awful just sooo boring and completely forgetable. Like right now, i can't even remotely remember what it sounded like..just that it was zzzzz. I feel like the UK don't even try, same with some of the other countries that are guaranteed a spot, theres literally no excuse with the resources they have not to put on a decent show lol!
@@betht7414 I think the UK always goes for a boring but safe song but pls we could do so much more, we have amazing musical theatre singers, talented drag queens, boybands, power houses, theres no excuse!
I love this video for being so positive about every performance and contestant. This is how Eurovision should be! People cheering about other countries even though they have no connection with those countries, nor do they understand the lyrics of their songs (that was me with Ukraine!). Music and Eurovision connects us all
She served true art. I don't know how impactful that performance was for people that don't speak French, but being able to understand the song made it THE performance of the night for me. You could tell this was her song and that she meant every single word she sang. I could literally go on for days about this.
Finland holding a ‘play ja ja ding dong’ sign before the start of the voting? Iceland’s jury voting?? EfenTix??? Damiano kissing other band members on stage and singing ‘toccarsi i coglioni’ during the final performance????
@@ana.stasia17 thanks for correcting me, I don’t speak Italian 🙏🏻 Yeah, I’ve noticed he didn’t sing that the first time (there was something like ‘non fare piú errori’?) but he surely did when they won. True badasses 🤟🏻
I love that you included something about every country, regardless of whether they qualified to the final or not. They all put so much effort into their performances, whether we like them or not. It takes a lot of guts to participate. It's nice that everyone's appreciated:)
i like the eiffel tower but i agree, it doesnt sum up france n it was refreshing to see france so something still very french but without resorting to the eiffel tower
iceland was hardcore trolling the entire night, and i have so much love and respect for that. also, jendrik being a wholesome icon, and us finnish people just coming up like "pUT YOUR MIDDLE FINGERS UP-" yep, that's us-
Ok at the beginning I didn’t like Germany’s song but oh my god jendrik who gave you the right to be that cute- like that wholesome little smile and excitement is ugghh so cute
At least we tried something this year. And while it didn't pay off in the end it was still something different than all other German candidates the last years. I'm not a fan of the song but it's not something you would assume coming from Germany in general.
@@Blaps911 the song definitely grew on me, his attitude in the live performance honestly made me enjoy it. Definitely different, deserved more than 2 points
anyone gonna mention Gjon's lighting giving him a shadow mullet in that close up shot? We were laughing because they kept using that shot throughout the show.
@@martap6913 there is a moment in the performance where the lights make a shadow behind Gjon that makes him look like he has a hair style from the 80s called a mullet.
I just loved how all 4 of the last places didn't give a single cat's arse about their 0 points. They were just like "Ok, and? I had fun, so screw you televotes"
what about san marino somehow getting a 12 points from a jury? Iceland actually making the ja ja ding dong meme real? Dadi putting pixel art of fans on the transparent LED? edit: jesus fucking christ how tf did this get so much likes
I might have been bouncing up and down excitedly waiting for Lordi. Every mention of Lordi made me lose my mind. Beautiful bonus is listening to my father's tales about the organisation. You see my father works in the Rotterdamse goverment. That means he had to organize keeping the bridge free and tests with the lighting. My father kept getting mails from the people there like: "wtf is happening with the bridge?" He had to keep it secret the whole time. I didn't know what he was working on either. Yeah I know what he does but I didn't know that they were going to use the bridge as a light show.
He’s actually a musical singer and if what he said is true then it wasn’t actually his decision to sing this song but the German jury said he has to sing that song he actually has good songs
Albina abused her pre-recorded backing vocals. If you pay attention, you can spot numerous moments where she's doing literal playback. If she sang the whole thing (and she could, as evidenced by her Dora performance), she would've qualified. I wanted her in the final too, because her show was great, but one can understand why she didn't qualify.
tout l’univers was shot SO BEAUTIFULLY LIKE THE MIXING WAS ON POINT (apart from the zoom out on the high note and then cutting to a similar shot but literally everything else was perfect) AND THE CLOSE UPS *CHEFS KISS*
I was full on "Yes gurl slay!" when Maneskin won, right until they showed Ethan's reaction, at which point it switched to "Awwwhhhhhhhh, he's so adorable!"
This year's Eurovision was so GOOD. I never really cared about it i honestly only watched it for Maneskin (Italy) but I was surprised cause everyone stepped up their game.
esc 2021 was jsut the best I've ever seen!! I have to say that 2022 had a few good songs that I'll keep on listening to. But not only most of the songs from 2021 were great, so was the vibe, hosting, looklab and just everything!! I've watched this video last year and I've had a smile on my face watching it back!! I just loved it!
Coming here after ESC 2022… and damn, was this a weak year compred with 2021. I guess we got the banana song, but like 2021 served BANGER upon BANGER from all around Europe.
just gjon’s whole performance was literally amazing, his angelic voice especially the high long note at the end of the song. also he had too much screen that i developed a crush on him, he’s adorable 😭
I saw on Instagram a clip of Gjon’s Jury performance and the high note at the end was changed slightly but it was even better than it was in the grand final.
Correct me if im wrong but Jendrik is just so cute the way he was during his performance was just so adorable. I feel sorry for him getting hate comments, since the moment his song was chosen for germany, on social media. Those comments were mostly from germans saying that he will get 0 points, but even after all of this he still had fun❤
As a german i agree. Not my type of music but it really gets in your head (is earworm a term in English?) and the more you listen to it the better it gets. He doesn't deserve all the hate.
I absolutely love how you simply highlighted the good aspects of every contestant, no shade, no hate, just pointing out the strength of everybody and their songs, no matter if you liked them or not! you're the kind of person of i wish i'd see more in this world, we need more kindness
Germany's and Italy's song are similar ideas being done differently XD Germany's: You can't hurt me with your hate Italy's: Shut up about your opinion on other people
Is it just me or was 2021 one of the best years ever? I swear, I tried to remember which songs were in my top 10, and I ended up with like 30 of them...
After watching the auditions of 2022 and returning here, I'm realizing just how much better this is. Those dancing pants were better performers than the entire second half of 2022...
This was honestly one of the best years I’ve seen as every performance had something memorable, iconic or was simply a really good song. Many of them went into my playlist, while I usually take only one or two, and the event was fun to watch from the beginning til the end. And I don’t even mention that sequence from the tele-voting results! I already start being a bit sad from the realization that next year probably won’t be as amazing as this one 😅
Go_A, Destiny, and Manizha have made it to my ESC besties. Living for their energy. P.s.: I really feel like this year was one of the most epic ESC years. I still listen to many of these songs. The world also got a star like Maneskin. ESC has really stepped up its game 🤍
This year was so iconic and had so many great songs, I don't believe these people will be forgotten tbh... (people usually are when they didn't win ESC)
@@nonamer6681 I'm pretty sure if they made the final part of the song at a higher pitch, they would have gotten into the finale. I liked the song but I understand when people say it was repetitive and monotone.
7:28 I just know that this meant so much to so many people. I'm shocked that it didn't get any votes from the public. Of course I'm a little biased, I'm from the Netherlands.
My god I love this energy. I have never been more fan of Eurovision than I was this year. There is no song, not even one, that I didn’t like as well 🥺. And I think it’s amazing to see that Rock ‘n Roll never dies!!
