BJJ Fanatics was started by a pair of black belts (Bernardo Faria & Michael Zenga) who feel that nothing is more important than improving your BJJ skills as much as possible in the least amount of time. Their aim was to create a shop for BJJ Students who don’t look at BJJ as a sport - but as a lifestyle.

Kesa is like 90% inside arm control. When she switches to that two handed grip, there's almost no chance of keeping the pin... one furtive movement and that arm is out, and elbow to the mat.

@letmegetuhhh3959
@letmegetuhhh3959 Год назад
Same thing but you're gonna eat a few small shots. Them getting rid of the connecting hands for the grip to punch you also makes them more unstable. It'll suck but you won't get KOd at least.

Seeing as how that’s not a kesa gatame, it’s definitely easy to escape.
@cadkls
@cadkls Месяц назад
Yes it is lol. It doesn't stop being a scarf hopd just because there's no gi, you just modify the grips slightly, but the principle is still the same.
@djustinfowler
@djustinfowler Месяц назад
@@cadkls in judo, when you have different grips, it’s a different move. She’s not leaning forward and she’s not controlling his right arm, it’s not how a kesa gatame is done. Whatever it is she’s doing, is something that is not taught because it is easy to escape from.
@cadkls
@cadkls Месяц назад
@@djustinfowler it's not supposed to be picture perfect, it's a demonstration of an escape. Even on the kodokan youtube channel, uke isn't resisting or putting force into any techniques where the escape is being demonstrated. It's just a no gi variation of a scarf hold. As for the idea that a change in grips changes the technique, this isn't correct, an osoto gari has many grip variations yet is still an osoto gari because the fundamental mechanism of the throw is the same. This goes for any throw. An ude garami has two variations, one where the hand is pointing in the direction of the head, and one where the hand is pointing in the direction of the feet, yet both are an ude garami, and this is shown on the kodokan RU-vid channel so there's no arguing that one. There are also variations of throws like the sukui nage that attack with different grips and different positions. I'm sorry but I'm going to take the word of the kodokan over an Internet stranger. So unless you're a kodokan official, and your statements have been approved by the kodokan, I have no reason to believe what you say.
@djustinfowler
@djustinfowler Месяц назад
@@cadkls internet stranger? That’s exactly what you are. And on the kodokan YT, at least the move is being done correctly. Seoi Nage variations all have different names even though the throw is the same because the grip is different. That’s one example and there are many more. Anyways, my morning 💩 is done, and so am I. From Japan, have a great day.
@cadkls
@cadkls Месяц назад
@@djustinfowler Um yes I know I'm a stranger, but I'm not the one disagreeing with the kodokan nor am I in the same position you are of trying to convince someone that a mere change in grip changes the whole technique. Believe me or don't, i don't care, the evidence is on the kodokan yt channel as well as the book by jigoro kano. The only time a grip change matters is if it actually changes how the technique is done, or the technique cannot be done with a particular grip. For example, the collar chokes all have different names because the grips used change how the choke is applied. If the grips don't change the technique, the technique remains the same. If you're gripping uke's belt, you obviously can't perform a rear naked choke, so whatever technique you're currently doing cannot be called a rear naked choke, but if you're holding the scarf area, doesn't matter exactly where your hands are as long as they're in the correct general area and performing the same technique, then its a kesa gatame. If youre worried about grips, then you're gonna have a seizure when you hear about kuzure kesa gatame and ushiro kesa gatame. Completely different grips yet still a scarf hold. Can't wait for your pedantic computer brain to try and figure out how that works. It'd overheat trying to calculate it.

@rollinOnCode
@rollinOnCode Год назад
@six spadez eh. i can't believe john danaher doesn't understand how to play and maintain kesa gatame- which is like an ultimate dominant position- the position is a literal submission. it is fairly rudimentary to maintain a kesa gatame position and attack from there. and it really is not that easy to escape like gordon is showing here against someone who can even maintain it decently well. i would check out henry akins soul stealer all about kesa gatame. i mean it is so dominant that you can play kesa gatame even if you screw everything and get bridged over-
