You were stopped so often lol. I don't know if I was just lucky or you were just really unlucky. I think I was stopped once and it was an obvious one with me missing prayer in the morning to snoop around because I thought I could just sneak in last minute. You got in trouble for everything lol

Do the Circators notice when I’m missing? Because yea, I got stopped so much lol I pushed my luck pretty far

If you drink with the circators or sneak into the Prior's chambers to read his notes on all the Novices, you could learn why Lucas was so cagey about his past and also why the circators bully him, which kind of ties into why he was sent to the Monastery. You asked about the best way to do the quest and I think you did pretty well. A lot of the paths lead to confronting Pious or him poisoning you and then regretting what he did, confessing and then you decide what to do next. I think the intended way is to let him go free because you get a very nice and compassionate cutscene as the two of you leave the monastery. Although you do also get a very funny cutscene if the monks discover you're not who you say you are and you quite literally get chased out of the Monastery. Your "Awesome" to the implication of Pious being tortured/interrogated was a little frightening, haha. I always let Pious go. I feel like out of everyone you're tracking down, he's the most likely to truly turn his life around. Would love to see him in KCD2 but since you're not carrying your save over, I don't think they'll make that choice cannon to the story. Oh and lastly, a Die is Cast is for when you want to progress to the last chunk of the main story. Johanka's quest is apparently best for after a die is cast, the other DLCs are probably fine to do before. I looked it up and I think the only quest that will fail after a die is cast, that you haven't completed, is "Thick as Thieves - Woyzeck", but it's a criminal quest so maybe not for you. There may be some that aren't on the wiki tho. So at this point it's really just whichever order you prefer to do things in.

I felt so betrayed by Pious haha I believed he was actually trustworthy, the others made it seem like he was there a while and the guy to go to when there was a problem. I can’t believe I was so gullible to believe that 😂 he did seem like he could have turned his life around, but he was also responsible for a death and the destruction of Neuhof, for me I couldn’t justify letting him go. Thank you for the pointers on what to do next! Maybe I’ll hit up the other DLCs, then do Die is Cast, then do Johanka’s. Yesss this helps me so much

It's easy to lose track of the story of everyone involved in Neuhof since it's so easy to be distracted by side quests. Runt's gang needed more men for the raid and recruited Pious' gang with the promise of an easy robbery that paid well. Then when the massacre started, Pious, Timmy, Limpy and Reeky freaked out and ran away because they didn't want to be part of any killing. Everyone in the gang was some kind of troublemaker, but none of them were ever violent. They all went their separate ways where you eventually track them down. From Pious' story, going to the monetary wasn't just to hide but also to repent. He used to be a priest in training so it was kind of like him going back to his old life, as the brutality of banditry wasn't for him. It's fair to arrest him, he even tried to poison you. I guess we can imagine Radzig would go easy on him the same way he spared Sir Kuno in the Band of Bastards. Either way, excited to see how you do the DLCs or main story, and hope your career related stuff you mentioned went well!

@heyamarii 23 дня назад
Gosh I forgot about Limpy! The story is so massive, I did forget the different views of the two gangs coming together, so thanks for the break down because that felt like it happened AGES ago. I’ll let Pious go on my next playthrough, I can’t wait to do everything differently the 2nd time around. The tourney has been summoning me, I really feel ready to do it now. And after today’s meeting later, I think doing the tourney would be the perfect way for me to unwind. I’m such a ball of nerves right now 😂 I have a few hours left before I go into this meeting, so I’m going to try and calm the heck down haha I’m excited and nervous.

It’s so easy to lose track of the little details in the story and there’s a lot of cool foreshadowing you won’t notice until a second playthough. Just be sure to do a quick stop at Samopesh before the tourney. It’s just a brief story thing to make the tourney a little more interesting and it’s less impactful if you do it after. And I’m sure you’ll do fine at the meeting!

1:18:56 lol the best way I’ve found to go about it is to hold of on confiding to anyone until the last moment. I don’t know if you’re able to get the dice without knocking out Antonius at night since that’s one way you identify him lol that’s actually how I figured it out my first playthrough

God I was so tilted!! Haha those Circators are gonna get it one day, mark my words! Someone mentioned you won’t find the dice by pickpocketing Pious 🫠 it only appears magically on him after you escape from the monastery and kill him? I think. Perfect! Time to do the tourney. IT IS TIME

Funny thing is that you actually found Pious quickly for a first run. You telling "Antonius" that you were looking for Pious made him think you were onto him, but in reality it was the opposite, you told him because you trusted him the most of all the novices. Ironic 😂 As a sidenote, a thing that makes a KCD "speedruns" fun for me is how early events can be triggered in a questline, kind of like I BG3, if you know where someone/something is, you can just go to that place a trigger the events and characters will respond like "how did you find me" and henry will be like "I don't know, It was just a vibe" like he was using SHIVERS from Disco Elysium 💀
@heyamarii
@heyamarii 27 дней назад
I trusted too easily!! They said how good of a friend Antonius was and I totally believed it 😂 thank god he gave me the antidote, I thought I was done for. I love how many different ways this quest can go. I’m going to try the lock picking way next time and have Antonius meet a different end 😈 THE VIBE 😂😂 that’s my favourite way to accidentally find things

The monastery quest is incredibly janky, and there's a good reason a lot of people hate it. 1) Too much of the monastery quest consists of staring at the loading screens. Your every day at the monastery goes like this - you wake up, go to the mass, press "wait" and look at the loading screen. Go have breakfast, speak to the novices there (if you must), press wait, look at the loading screen. Go to the alchemy lab, make a potion, press "wait", look at the loading screen. Go to the library, watch the cutscene of Henry sitting down, translate the text, press "wait", look at the loading screen. Go to the mass, press "wait", look at the loading screen. Have dinner, press "wait", look at the loading screen. The night comes, you now have the opportunity to go about your business as you please, because the circators spend the entire night at drinking and gambling at the cellar, so nobody is actually patrolling the monastery to create the engaging stealth game experience. Was this really the best way possible to design this quest's gameplay? Why not just make the mass a cutscene, and autoskip 2 hours after you finish your job at the alchemy lab and the library? The game clearly wants you to do all your dirty business at night, so it's not like there's incentive to skip mass, or play truant after finishing your potions for the day. Was staring at all those loading screens really necessary? And if you're lacking the skill to lockpick or steal, you'll be forced to stare at the loading screens A LOT, because even by the time you figure the quest out, brother Cellarius still needs time to produce the monastery key for you. 2) It's the first time stealth and lockpicking come into the focus and demand you to use them, and fuck you if you've been playing a good boy Henry who never stole or cheated in his life. See my other post about this. 3) No saviour schnapps. Enough said. 4) Unfulfilled potential. Reporting the circators to the prior does basically nothing, reporting violations to Nevlas does nothing, the election plotline goes utterly nowhere. 5) The game disallows the obvious solution (choking out all novices, or pickpocketing and seeing which ones have the dice). The dice only spawn on Pious' body after his death, because they're magic like that. 6) Lucas quest is really unintuitive to begin, because it requires asking Jodok about Lucas twice. I've never seen it on my first playthrough for that reason. 7) Bugs. Siskin and Antonius are both hugely guilty of talking about stuff that never happened, because the quest triggers are broken. With just a little bit more polish, it could have been great, but we have what we have. I really don't like this quest.

I agree about the time skipping portions of the game. It’s such a pity because this is such an interesting change of pace, with a whole new story in this capsule of a location. It could have been a knock out if there was a little more polish there.

Alright, this is going to be a long one. I don't expect anyone to actually read this. This quest really allows you characters specced into stealth to shine. But what if, hypothetically, you were playing a good boy Henry, who never stole or cheated in his life, and who never needed to pick locks? Well, it's still beatable, if you're observant, clever and thorough, but it's a very frustrating experience. So, how does this quest look from the perspective of the Reasonable Henry? Reasonable Henry knows the following things about Pious - he has special dice, he has a dagger and he's educated and was a priest at some point. Reasonable Henry starts off by talking to each of the novices separately, asking every question - including about the other novices - but doesn't tell anyone his reasons for being there. Reasonable Henry makes the conclusion that brother Jodok is probably in the clear, but everyone else is suspect (Lucas is cagey and nervous, Siskin is a little weasel who clearly don't belong and has a dagger in his secret stash, Antonius is so clean, it's suspicious). Now, how to narrow it down further? Well, the obvious way would be to check the prior's records on the novices, but Reasonable Henry can't do that, because he never learned lockpicking. In the night, Reasonable Henry has the bright idea to choke out all three suspects and check their bodies to see if they have the dice on them, but none of them do. He does find a locked chest with private belongings, but because he can't open it, it's no use. Reasonable Henry grinds his teeth in frustration and begins his tribulations as a monk. Eventually he discovers the circators drinking either by accident, or by breaking the rules, and buddies up with them. While this does allow him to break a rule (once), that doesn't really seem to get him any closer to the solution, although Jodok is now looking suspect. Reasonable Henry also does Nevlas' quest, but that doesn't really get him closer to figuring out the identity of Pious either - he only learns that the prior has the detailed intelligence on each of the novices, which is not helpful, because he can't get through the locked door. Eventually, this frustrates Henry to the point he just jumps the guy for his key when nobody is looking, chokes him out and steals the key from his body. The prior's notes give Jodok, Siskin and Lucas an alibi, but not Antonius. That's a major breakthrough, but not the definitive proof (the dagger or the dice) that Reasonable Henry would like to have before throwing around accusations or murdering someone. Frustrated, Henry talks to each of the novices again to hear their opinions about each other - only to discover that this time around, Jodok has something else entirely to say about Lucas, going far more into detail about the bullying Lucas is suffering at the hands of the circators. Reasonable Henry investigates the matter, because he's a good guy, and gets the circators to stop. When he talks to Lucas, Lucas has a surprising revelation - all along, he knew that Antonius is a fraud, and can provide proof. This is the smoking gun. Reasonable Henry confronts Antonius, and then the game bugs out and Antonius begins talking nonsense about poisoning Henry, even though it never happened. Then they hatch a plan to escape. Escaping is easy, because the kitchen is never locked, and brother Cellarius can provide a key, so everything Pious needs is collected pretty easily (but still takes a buttload of time, because Cellarius needs days to produce the key, and blood also takes time to arrive). When Henry loses his shit and just bludgeons Pious to death out of frustration in the end, he finds out that the dice magically appear on his dead body. What a pain in the ass. (When I watched this video, I've found out that Lucas can straight up tell you who Pious is if you report the circators, but I've always had much more difficulty triggering his quest. I guess that's nice, still. Really simplifies tihngs.)

I read through this! And you know what… I actually agree with a lot of what you said. I never really lockpicked or pickpocketed or stealthier much… so those skills I couldn’t fully rely on. It’s hard to be morally correct in the monastery, it forces us to break rules and choke a few people out or steal 😂
