I've got a '82 XR3 in Sunburst red, near identical to ones featured in this film. It even is a very late model XR3 with a 5 speed, it was produced only 1 month before the newer XR3i. For a car of that era, it really had all bells and whistles. (Sporty handling, double front lights, sunroof, electric windows and a 5 speed gearbox) Currently my XR3 has only covered 69000 kilometres (43000 miles) from new. Love it to death
I have a 1981 (W) 1.6L 3 door in Terracotta - it has no passenger mirror, no headrests, and no radio still with its blanking plate fitted, 33k miles - gotta love MK3's :)
I think the pre-facelift RS Turbo looks absolutely stunning in Dimond White, I also like the facelift version too but just think the pre-facelift looks better.
I can remember the launch. it made the mk2 look as sophisticated as a wheelbarrow. we hired one around 1982, a 1.3L. coming to that from an old mk3 cortina we were stunned to be doing 90 without realising.
i used to have an Escort MK3, unfortunallety, he's gone in an accident.. but i'm very proud to have the chance to drive a legend Escort(any generation), for me, the best car ever
My 1st and 2nd car. Have fond memories. Only down side was where it collected water by the battery compartemnt. If not treated it would rust, rot then eventually leak into the inside of the car. Went through quite a few hydraulic tapets too, as the noise used to irrtate me when that familiar tap, tap , tap would start once it started to tick over...
When the Escort MkIII was launched it was panned for its poor ride and handling. It turned out that the car had only been developed on smooth test tracks so was unable to cope well with real roads.
I thought that the fiesta would have been better and would have done better as competition with the golf, especially given the time it was released, advancements could have been focused on it earlier.
i have an mk3 escort, i love it! originaly it was 1.3 liter 5 door, but i love rally, so i tuned/modified the car, so now the engine is 1.8 zetec. I just called "Escort Rally Custom RS1800i. I put some mk3-4 RS Turbo and mk5 Escort Cosworth parts. The one of the best car in the world to me. Check my videos, i have some video my car.
