In this video I offer my thoughts on the ESEE Laser Strike knife as compared to other knives in my collection, specifically the ESSE 4. It is intended for informational and educational purposes only in hopes that it helps you with your decision to purchase or just to satisfy your curiosity. It is a rather long video, so thank you in advance for your patients.
Later in the video I look at the size of the Laser Strike compared to two other knives in my collection; the Mora Bushcraft Force and the Helle GT.
I've added a paper cut test just for fun to briefly demonstrate the edges.
Here is an outline of the video based on time codes. Think of them as similar to chapter markers on a DVD. I've mainly done this to expedite your viewing needs and to help you target specific sections, especially if you are viewing the video more than once. Click on the time code and it should jump you to the portion of the video described next to it. You might have to wait for the entire video to load before it works properly.
1:48 - a little background on my knife needs and how I typically use my knives
3:17 - a look at the Laser Strike sheath, molle back and their features
9:44 - a look at the Laser Strike knife
17:25 - discussing the internal ferro rod and cotton tender
19:55 - a comparison between the ESEE 4 sheath/molle back and the ESEE Laser Strike sheath/molle back
20:31 - a comparison between the ESEE 4 and Laser Strike
33:04 - size comparison with the Mora Bushcraft Force knife
35:25 - size comparison with the Helle GT knife
38:28 - a paper cut test with all four knives
42:35 - conclusion and final size comparison with all four knives
I've since done a followup video showing the convex edge I've put on it and I also talk about wetness getting into the handle scales. Checkt that video out here - • Laser Strike convex ed...
Again, this video is to offer some insight into the layout and functionality of the knife. I've only done very minimal "real world" cutting with it at this point. I hope to offer a followup review in a few weeks after I've put a convex edge on it and used it in the field.
I mention Dr. Wako in the video. For an even greater depth of knowledge and insight into knives, edges and real world experience - especially with regard to hunting - be sure to check out his Virtuovice channel! I've picked up a lot of edge reprofiling tips from him and subscribe to his channel myself. At this time he has yet to review the Laser Strike, but does offer an excellent video on reprofiling an ESEE 4 blade with custom handle. You can find that video here - • The semi-custom ESEE-4... .
You can also search his channel for more information on the ESEE 6, 5, 4, 3 and Izula knives as well. His reviews are by no means limited to ESEE, but since that's the focus of the video here, I figured I'd mention it.
Hope this helps!
