I think it's important for companies like Evolve to be much more involved in the fight for PLEV legalization in Europe. In countries like Germany, UK or the Netherlands, electric skateboards are still prohibited and do not have a lobby. The community of users is still growing, but the most important goal "to ride legally and insured" a PLEV has still not been achieved. In the big cities of the EU, these types of vehicles are a new innovative way to get to your destination without a car. Here in Germany, users of electric skateboards are stopped by the police every day and given high fines. Usually even the e-board is confiscated by the police as well. We need a Europe-wide regulation for PLEV. The new PLEV standard 17128 could have been a start, but unfortunately this standard does not regulate an e-skateboard because no manufacturer was represented on the committee. Selling a lot of boards is certainly great, but standing up for regulation is another. Best regards from Germany Lars Zemke, electricempire.de/

What a great podcast. Had my first evolve board in April of 2022 a gt series carbon. Then September of 2022 I purchased a new hadean bamboo. I use it for a lot of my travel. Totally agree the laws need to change for usage. But think that will take time.

Hi from Cambridge Uk. I love my carbon and my Stoke, what I need now is for you to make a board nearer to La Croix ( but not so insane). So Bigger motors for cooler running, plus AT top speed of 30 MPH, titannium fastenings for durability and 25 mile range. I know I am not alone on this desire, you need to supply the demand that exists for your customers ,who already have one or more Evolve boards, so they can up scale, I would think you could do this with ease and price for aruond £2,500

Yeah, I really don't get the laws. In Western Australia, no one knows what to do with e-skateboards but its perfectly okay for a cyclist to do ~20-40km/h on a shared footpath.

How do you police speed limits on an eskate when you can't always look at the speed you are going at? Sure you can have a sense of the speed you are going (slow, faster, fast) but how do you say yes I was going 20 on the speed limit or "I was only going 6k officer", the difference between 6k and 10k is nominal as is 10 and 15 and 15 to 20. I think it should be no faster than 40k (speed limited) and if your hooning around like a malaka in the city doing faster than a safe speed then you get dicked for being a stooge. Just use common sense
@peejayem4700
@peejayem4700 3 года назад
I can set power thresholds by gear in app which equates to a top speed accordingly on flat ground so that would be a type of workaround
@evolveSkateboards
@evolveSkateboards 3 года назад
The same way speed limits are used to govern cyclists in many places can be applied to eMobility. Our boards do have optional built-in speed limiters so if activated you can set the top speed and know you are being cautious.
@GizmoGTI
@GizmoGTI 3 года назад
@@evolveSkateboards I've never seen any speed limit that applies to a cyclist, except for the speed limits set on the road for motor vehicles, and usually a cyclist would not be able to maintain a set speed like 35k/h - you'd have to be a damn good cyclist if you could.
@GizmoGTI
@GizmoGTI 3 года назад
@@peejayem4700 but it's not always safe to be going even at 6k/h say on a footpath where there are many pedestrians in and out of shops, and then you turn a corner and you're on a suburban side street where you could easily be going safely down it at your top speed say at 40k/h, how will you adjust for that - and that would most likely apply to many eskaters that I know including myself. I personally think if you use your common sense and esskate according to the conditions and not go faster than an a globally set limit, like maybe for argument's sake set to 50k/h in any condition, but caught clowning around like a testa-de-gutso doing powerslides on a high street mall where there are ample people you could easily clean bowl over then you get your toy taken confiscated (though with solid proof backing the officer of course)
@peejayem4700
@peejayem4700 3 года назад
@@GizmoGTI couldn’t you just set say gear 3 to max out at 40km/h, if that’s the e-board legislated limit, and then just hit that gear when required?

You shouldn't have to wear a helmet. The day that comes in is the day I stop using it.
@ajplant96
@ajplant96 3 года назад
Traditional skating without the electronic components that are always going to be subject to failure, sure. These, with the speeds they’re capable of also, helmet is a very basic requirement where it’s set as a requirement.
@_LeeTurner
@_LeeTurner 3 года назад
@@ajplant96 What rubbish. No more chance of failure than a truck failing or a screw not done up right on a traditional skateboard. By making people wear a helmet you're automatically assuming it's a dangerous activity and in doing that you are putting people off. Let it be the choice of the user.

Wearing a helmet would make you stop? Huh? That seems like a dumb hill to die on.
@_LeeTurner

@@carcassryzu1366 I guess you can’t die wearing a helmet. Currently in Europe and no one wears a helmet on the bike either. Some even on Motorbikes don’t wear one. Let me make the decision. I will never wear one on a skateboard.
