This ESOcast explores the wealth of stunning astronomical images produced over a period of almost 30 years by the MPG/ESO 2.2-metre telescope at the La Silla Observatory in Chile.

How heart-breakingly beautiful. The clusters drove home to me just how BIG everything is with so many stars that they make a mat blocking out any empty space. Billions and billions of stars, where did they all come from....

Would love to see the true colour images. In BW. Because to me these are all artists impressions are they not?

They're made up of composite images overlapped- x-ray, gamma ray etc. If you went out there to look for yourself using the minimal spectrums of light humans can see, you'd see pretty much nothing.

@@rachkate76 I understand that, but you're missing what I am saying. I'm talking of the actual composite images. I'm a designer so I understand the concept of layers, blending modes etc. Maybe I should try get my hands on some.
