ESP-r runs blindingly fast on M1 Macs. It is my daily driver, but I am used to the ritual of building it. For others who just want to get running I have proved a route to setting up the basic environment a pre-compiled version expects to find. It's a 10 minute video and other than download time that might be more than enough time for you to also be up and running.
Note: should work on M2 Macs (but I don't have one to test it on).
