I remember like it was yesterday, I was in my room a few hours after the race was over. My friend called and said hey I’m sorry, I said sorry for what?. He says Dale died. I ran to the living room and told my dad to turn it to the news. He said why, I looked at him and said Earnhardt died. My mom was in the kitchen she says what. By that time my dad turned it to the What ever station it was. On the screen With a picture of Dale 1951-2001. It seemed like everything came to a stop. I was in disbelief, shocked, I didn’t want to believe it. I went back to my room shut the door and turned in the radio. As soon as I turned it on, the radio host says this next song is in the memory of Dale Earnhardt. Garth brooks the Dance started playing. I started crying like a baby. My driver, hero, I don’t think I slept at all that night.
Man I told my girlfriend that Dale was dead when The broadcast left the race and I remember her breaking down and saying please don't say that. I just knew!
Absolutely perfect tribute for the greatest racer NASCAR ever saw. To think this was the final broadcast Bob and Benny participated in together, no matter how far apart they were, truly tugs at my heartstrings, as well. To think twenty years have passed since this happened...
I truly believe a piece of NASCAR died with him that day. He was so big, and cast such a huge shadow on the sport, that everyone at the track or watching it on TV either were a fan of his, or were rooting for THEIR driver to beat HIM - more often than not, they didn't even care if their driver won the race at all, just come in ahead of that damn Earnhardt! And there's never been a cooler looking car that that black Lumina then Monte Carlo with a white 3 and the red interior. Black is just - the coolest color to have on a race car, sports car, any car. You can make a Yugo look...... uh, better, in black!
Soo sad, i was born in 82, im soo HAPPY that i got to watch the greatest nascar driver every Sunday, looking back all these years later it was the best ,just my opinion:)
Everybody always gave Dale Earnhardt 💩 for his aggressive driving and even fined him several times because of his driving but yet nascar officials never did hold anyone else responsible for THEIR aggressive driving that resulted in the crashing of Dale Earnhardt's car on several occasions. I miss the days of old when drivers would beat the hell out of each other on the track and have a beer afterwards as friends. That was the good ol days people 😢
For those of us who remember the IROC RACES,MAN DID WE SEE A SHOW FROM THE WORLD'S GREATEST DRIVERS EVERY IROC RACE,NO MATTER WHO WON NO MATTER WHO WRECKED IT WAS SO COOL TO SEE THESE GUYS DUKE IT OUT AND LAUGH AFTERWARDS,BRING BACK SOME FORMAT OF THE IROC,THIS GENERATION OF FANS NEEDS TO BE A PART OF SOMETHING LIKE THAT,OR THEY JUST PLAIN ARE GOING TO MISS OUT!!! JUST SAYIN! LATER!🤪,Dale Earnhardt a great driver but an even greater man!RIP DALE,WE WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU FOR THE GREAT PERSON YOU WE'RE!!!😥
Time passes so fast. It's been 20 years and 6 months since he passed away. Yet here I am watching this tribute and feel the same way I did on that day in February 2001.
I couldn’t stand Earnhardt, never had a good thing to say about him ever! But when he passed and all the information about how much he helped other racers that were broke. How truly a nice guy he was, I couldn’t help but love the man. And I’m proud now to tell everyone that I grew up just down the road from Dale Earnhardt in Cooleemee N.C.
I knew all the great things he had done already for the less fortunate folks. People who hated him had no idea how he was off the track...not the same guy. Just a super nice guy.
I was the same way when I was younger... I couldn't stand him lol... and just like you now that all these videos are on RU-vid and you can actually see the off track Dale I have a whole new perspective of that man!!! he was by far one of the best and I can only wish I knew that while he was still around... Davey Allison was my all time favorite even after he was killed but now that I've seen all the videos I have about Earnhardt I can honestly say he is up there with Davey on my list nowadays... I'm just glad I wasn't the only one lol...
1999 was the best race I've ever seen and been to ! Our seats were on the back stretch. I didn't like it to begin with, but my Dale qualified back there , as it happened his pit was right in front of us . Then he won !!! People threw beer on us , but I didn't care ! I love him and I always will !
Man I will never forget this man he was more of a hero to me then my dad was to DALE EARNHARDT was the greatest light in my life that when he died I went to my father in law’s basement and sat down and melted into the wall crying sabing for the death of the intimidator iron head the man in black I’ll miss the MAN
As I diehard Big E fan, I held it together until the end. As much as I dislike "that woman" he married, it still got to me to see how affectionate they were, like this is it, the last hug and kiss, I'm not coming back.
The best driver that ever got in a race car.he is gone but will never be forgotten.he will always be the intermediate.lord i miss that black 3. So Richard do the right thing retire the 3 it belongs to one man.the intermediate
My husband loved watching Dale Earnhardt Sr race. I really came on board when Dale won the Daytona 500! I would watch thru the years forever watching this wonderful guy! Win the races in Heaven togerher! Tx fan Gloria
If I happen to be correct, this was Benny Parsons' final appearance ever on ESPN as he would move over to then-Turner Sports (now TNT Sports) shortly thereafter. R.I.P. Dale and BP.
