I do several test runs and then take a picture of the final result so when coming home I can repack the same as when I left. I also sometimes pack everything in a smaller case within a bigger one. If I buy a lot of stuff then I have the smaller one with what I took and the bigger one for what I bought, or vice versa. If I don’t buy anything then just repack small into big and come home.

Great advice, as someone who travels a lot almost all of it it great. I would however say to anyone a two wheel suitcase is better for carry on. You gain quite a bit of extra volume. It should be light enough to roll anyway without issues. 4 wheel cases are better when you have more than one piece of luggage room isn't really an issue then.
