I'm so glad I've found your channel Anna. Ever since I started buffing my nails in my twenties and getting manicures they've been wrecked; peeling, breaking, splitting, ridged......you name it, I've had it! Just two months of watching your videos and following your advice and my nails are just beautiful again. I genuinely can't believe the change. I haven't seen them look like this since I was a teenager. I honestly can't thank you enough! 💐🤩
I’m not trading in my Dior Nail Glow. Love the look and the fast dry time. It’s the only polish that I have the patience to let dry and it keeps me from using gel polish all the time. Loved seeing a snippet of Spain!
What a fancy intro!! Such a fun start to your always thorough review of a new product. Remember that Sally Hansen used to have a similar translucent pink polish that was my fave cheat when I was in the Air Force (and nail adornment was verboten 😉). Thanks as always 😍
I used to love Dior nail products back in the 70s. They had the best cuticle remover ever. Their polishes were always on the pricey side, but the quality was excellent. After many dramatic life changes I got away from shopping at department stores. Now that I manicure my nails regularly, I cannot imagine spending $28 for a bottle of polish - yikes! However, I have healthy nails that don't need special treatments. My biggest problem is that I tend to apply polish in thick coats which causes bubbling so I need to work on my technique.
I think you've just sold me the Dior Nail Glow 😍 it looks gorgeous on the nails and who doesn't like a little bit of luxury! Great vlog, I just came across you whilst looking for some inspiration on how to get better nails. I've now subscribed 😊
I just want to start off by saying I absolutely love watching your videos! I got introduced to Dior Nail Glow years ago and fell in love with not only the look of it but the fast dry time. I wouldn’t mind trying the Essie version, but I’m definitely willing to pay the higher price to have that faster dry time. I also just purchased the Dior Base Coat Abricot to try under the Dior Nail Glow after watching one of your videos. Can’t wait to try it!
Hi Laura! Oh, so glad to hear that you also love Dior Nail Glow. Even though it costs an arm and a leg it’s awesome and I feel like it’s worth the money. I keep looking for a dupe and I can’t find it. The drying time is sooo good too and the polish doesn’t seem to get too thick in the bottle which is a miracle because it’s usually the opposite (quick drying polishes go thick fast). I’m very curious if you will love the Dior base as much as I do. It dries awesome too!!
Love the intro!! Other than the unique glow under UV, there’s not enough of a difference to justify the price of Dior. It would help to compare the wear, as you know I’m all about the lasting wear 😆 I’d buy the Dior as a gift for my clubbing daughters, though!!
I think Dior will look nicer outside making the nails brighter. Nice for people with some yellowing. I will update you tomorrow :) Ps. We went to pick up the package at the Correos (post office) so I figured I would take our viewers on the walk with us :)
Yes. I would usually get 3/4 used up in the salon and sometimes I would add the new bottle to the old bottle. The drying time of Dior is awesome. Exactly 1 minute on the first coat and 2 minutes of Dior Base Coat Abricot+ Dior Nail Glow.
Thanks for the review! I love Nail Glow and was looking for dupes. I have this one on the way, but I tried Essie Pink Glove Service and it’s almost identical to Nail Glow! Dior is pink/purple on my nails while the Essie Pink Glove Service is a lot more coral ☺️
Love the Dior. I purchased it and love the healthy look it gives to my nails making them seem alive. I would like to try the Essie just to compare if it would last as long on the nail as the Dior did. I prefer two coats. Thank you so much for sharing!
Hi Ronni! Nice to meet another Dior fan. I keep looking for a dupe but I can’t find it. I love how gentle the Dior’s glow is and how it looks pink instead of white/purple
I am enjoying your videos so much. I have used the Dior nail glow and I loved it, particularly because I was able to use the whole bottle up. I will try the Essie Hard to Resist too, because I like the ides of it being a treatment for the nails. I also, have a tip for any of your followers who sew, (I am a designer/maker) as handling fabrics can make your hands really dry. Use a little bit more of your cuticle oil at night, rub it into your hands, the slather on a generous amount of your favourite hand cream. The during the day I regularly use Seams Beauty hand cream for couturiers, this doesn’t transfer on to fabric. I have tested loads of hand creams and this is the best by far. Lots of good wishes from Northern Ireland x
Hi Lorraine! Thank you so much for the suggestion of the cream which works for you. I looked it up and it does have some nice ingredients :) In case anyone is interested here is the link: www.seamsbeauty.com/product/hand-cream-75ml/#.YdWUsi1Q3q0 Thank you for your comment! I'm also curious how Essie will work as a treatment. I have to use it on some clients with problematic nails and see :)
For that price point I think the Essie could be a great choice! But the Dior was very impressive under the UV light. I have a little yellowing on my nails from a polish that seemed to stain and I was wondering if the lavender version of this essie product would help it neutralize the yellow look. Or maybe pink would look nice too. Looking forward to your IG update!
I will try the other one too! If you have some yellowing then Dior would be perfect. I have to say that I love that darn expensive polish (Dior). It brightens the nails without making them look blue or purple.
Would like a follow up(you probably thought of that). Your attention to detail is amazing. I like the pink. Since I am in the USA and on a budget I will try the Essie. I prefer natural looking nails but like a bit of shine and finish. So, that might be a perfect product for me.
Drying time…doesn’t matter to me. Which one STRENGTHENS NAILS BETTER? I have extremely weeks nails that split vertically. I’m 76 now and they are getting worse. Does PINK ARMOR work better? HELP! 🤷🏼♂️🙏🏼🤷🏼♂️
Try the CND rescue X. Doesnt make nails hard or strenghtened, but provides keratin and moisturizes them a lot. my nails have never been better after using it!
tbh polishes that claim to strengthen your nails by delivering nutrients, keratin, oils, etc etc generally aren’t backed by solid scientific evidence, and there isn’t really any reason to think that putting those materials on top of your nails is helpful given that your exposed nail plate is already ‘dead,’ just like hair. such products are probably scams (but if something works for you then don’t let me stop you from using it), so your best bet is to use cuticle oil (i use jojoba for my cuticles, nails, and skin because it soaks in nicely); wear gloves when washing dishes/soaking your hands in water; DO NOT BUFF YOUR NAILS; & generally treat your nails kindly, not as tools. changing your habits is much more effective than any miracle cure product. i have fairly weak nails that tend to peel at the free edge (especially my index fingers 😬) so i’ve accepted that keeping my nails neatly trimmed and filed is the best option for me. short nails just suit me and my lifestyle better. hope this helps!
Great video! I love the intro. I think I saw a full head to toe shot of Mr. Salon Life. Of course, it was just his shadow, so he cheated and teased. 😂😂 So the Dior is UV reactive? Would a UV reactive top coat react the same way? Several indie polish makers make a UV reactive quick dry. I would never use those because I’m too chicken to try different polishes because of my sensitive skin. It isn’t worth the risk, to me as a reaction generally takes around a year to recover from. I can’t see the difference between the Dior and Essie except under the UV lamp. I don’t like polishes that advertise as being hardeners too much unless I know what the hardening ingredient is. Which means it has to be one of the three you mentioned. The only reason I know those three are hardeners is because of your wonderful educational videos. So I do like the Dior better because of that. However, I would never buy the Dior because of the price and the Essie looks great. So my final verdict is I like the Essie the best. I like both the white and the pink polishes. Both are nice, different, but nice. I do like the pink a little better, though. For white, I would like a little more of a white color, a less translucent white. It wouldn’t have to be opaque, but a little more opaque. Plus, with a white that isn’t opaque, you can make jelly sandwiches. Fancy Gloss Nail Lacquer’s Got Milk? is a good example of this. She makes several different polishes that aren’t opaque. I have three of them because I’m trying to find a goo undie to use under polishes that aren’t sheers or translucents, but do show a tiny bit of VNL (visible nail line). I want one that won’t change the final look of the polish, though, which is proving to be an expensive challenge. 😂 For a natural but shiny look, I like one coat of the Dior or Essie. For those that like a sheer and very subtle or natural polish look, I would go for two or three coats of Dior or the Essie. In the video, which is different then seeing polish in person, with two coats of the pink it does look like you have a very sheer but tinted polish on. With one coat, it looks like just a clear top coat on over nice healthy nails. So to me, it depends upon how the person wants to wear it. I think I would wear only one coat all by itself, or 2-3 coats with a translucent white or some other fun color on the free edge. So either a natural look, a Zoya naked manicure look, or a look like you did with the silver or gold sparkly polish a couple of weeks ago. I don’t think I would just wear 2-3 by itself without something on the free edge. Now, I’ve seen some fun nail art mani’s where they wear a slightly tinted, or just wear a base coat, on the nail and do things on the free edge. I’d use 2-3 like that if I could do nail art. 😂
Hi Sherri! No, I don't think Dior has any UV reactive ingredients, it just has the fluorescent ingredient which was hard to show with indoor lighting so that's why I showed the difference under the UV lamp. I posted a quick video of the difference between both this morning on IG Right now they both look the same I would say in the indoor light. Not everyone likes that fluorescent glow so Essie would be a good choice. Or people with naturally very purple nails, Dior might look too cool, purple.
I’m looking forward to trying Hard to Resist. I’m always up for trying new strengthening products as my nails are naturally quite bendable! I’m also curious to see what the “glow” looks like on me. I wasn’t going to splurge for the Dior glow.
You should at least splurge once on Dior. It goes on sale at Nordstrom’s for about $23. I usually wait for that! I do not like to spend a fortune on nail products… but the Dior is worth it for sure.
I enjoy your videos. Currently I am using oil and creams and letting my poor abused nails grow out from using cheap gels and no proper maintenance. Thank you. I am learning a lot from you.
Hi Ann! Thank you so much for your lovely message! Have you tried doing weekly warm oil soaks? They are extremely effective! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-io335eWf6R4.html
I just got my Dior glow today and put it on and I LOVE IT 🥰 I DONT CARE IT WAS $28 yes it’s pricey for that small bottle but I love it and got it Bc I saw on your channel
Thank you for showing us these products. Checked your Instagram, and the Dior looks more elegant and seems to have a little bit of a counterbalancing effect for yellowing. Read a couple of reviews on Essie, and many customers complaint that it peeled off after 2 days. Shame, the price was so tempting to try/buy. :-( How did you find Essie's wear?
Essie wear was good. Comparable to Dior but it doesn't have that beautiful brightening effect Dior has. Essie also changed colors, check out this IG post instagram.com/reel/Chc0U2NlfMk/?
Interesting. I just ordered the Dior for a simpler nail care. I have used Londontown Pink Illuminating Nail Concealer which makes the nails look nice with little effort. Have you tried?
It was a clear coat and my nails are naturally quite pale. I can't remember which exactly clear coat it was. Perhaps Pink Gel Coat. That one looks very good but after 2-3 days it goes a bit yellow, dirty looking.
Looks like I'm on my own here but I prefer the white look. The pink to me looks like you've had your hands in hot water. I haven't tried either of these so I'm just going by what I can see
I used to make a similar translucent pink color by mixing a drop or two of a red polish in a clear polish. I wonder if it's too much different than a dedicated product like these two? 🤔
Essie is not a dupe for Dior Nail Glow. It does not have the "glow" the Dior Nail Glow has. I showed couple better options here: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-76haUhOq3fo.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE--5LkMSsxBM8.html
@@TheSalonLife thank you for providing additional information. Unfortunately, I'm in Canada and so it's pretty expensive and/or impossible to order some of these European products. I'm fine with Essie "not glowing" under the UV light! :)
They finally have these Essie ones at my chemist I’m getting the pink one tomorrow I might try the purple one later on because they cost $15 here in Aus🇦🇺
Thank you for doing this video. I will be looking for the Essie product based on your results. It is not in Canada yet, I checked. I have naturally highly colored nails with very obvious moons. Dior Nail Glow is way to purple on me in artificial light and even more so in sunlight with two coats. It's ok with one coat but I don't love it, although I love how quick it dries. I'm still loving the Quo nail brightener with OPI orignal nail envy underneath and Seche Vite Gel Effect top coat. Edit: The pictures of Spain in the beginning are fabulous!
Hi Susanne! Yes, exactly, I love Dior because it hides the slight yellowing but not everyone is a fan of that glow. So for them Essie might be a perfect choice. I will do a proper wear test and I will be keeping everyone updated :)
Hi Fares! Thank you! I had to go to the post office to pick up the parcel with the polish so I figured I’d take tu guys on my walk with me :) UV lamp doesn’t help normal polishes to cure unless they have UV sensitive ingredients (like OPI Infinite Shine for example or CND Vinylux) I put it under the lamp to see if it glows, if it has that fluorescent ingredient. Outside was getting too dark for me to see. I will try tomorrow morning :)
Pink i like better. They make a violet to help with yellow nails more of a neutralizer. I remember in the 70’s revlon had a similar sheer pink polish even a bit more pink not much though.
Hello from Montréal. Love your content. These are actually different products since Essie is a hardener and the Dior is not. As far as colour goes the are very similar. I am so tempted to try the Dior but the price is so high
Hello Lucie! Thank you for your kind comment. I don't think Essie is a hardener. It doesn't have any well known hardening ingredients like Formalin, Dimethyl Urea, Hexanal, even fluoride can be hardening but it doesn't contain any of them. It has Hydroxyethyl Urea which is a moisturiser and a humectant but I don't know how much, probably small amount judging by its position on the ingredient list (it's placed after water). Rosin- It's the ingredient that is wax made from (the wax you remove hair with) Triethoxysilylethyl Polydimethylsiloxyethyl Dimethicone is a conditioner I don't know what they mean by "nail bonding technology"...
I wasn't really saying you were wrong... I'm just thinking out loud. I'm not a cosmetic chemist and I don't know all the ingredients. But from the ones I know I don't see anything hardening but I could be wrong. I think they now have a third, clear version. I have to look up all the ingredients... they might have different ingredients. Word of caution, the Essie Hard to Resist polishes both (the pink and the purple) really faded (even though I keep them in the drawer). I made a quick video about it on my IG while ago. They also don't have the glow Dior has.. ,(
I bought the Essie strengthener on Sat pink and not sure my thoughts. I thought they would glow but appear more dirtier to me. Maybe cause my whites are not that white don’t know. I am going check outside to see if it’s less noticeable outside verses inside.
Yeah, sadly the Essie doesn’t glow and it’s not a brightener. Currently I’m wearing a coat of Essie (for the pink tint) and coat of Dior (for the glow)
@@TheSalonLife yes it doesn’t seem to make my nails brighter. Guess keep use as a strengthener when I am bare. I was hoping if would brighten and due both 😢. Do you have a dupe for strengthener plus brightener?
Bree: I was informed that Dior Nail Glow has been removed from the market. The Ministry of Health has stated that the products contains a hazard element. I therefore purchased the Essie as you showed. Thank you.
Hi Christine! I think Dior Nail Glow is not allowed in Korea. The fluorescent brightener is used in many cosmetic. It’s a safe ingredient, just because it’s not apparently used in Korea doesn’t mean that it’s automatically bad. Essie does not have that brightening effect on the nails. It’s simply a clear nail polish with a hit of red. So here it says that the Korean officials believe that the ingredient can cause allergic reaction when in contact with a skin. Nail polish should not make skin contact. Maybe the ingredient is problematic in skin care? I’m not sure. “While the brightener is often used to create a lightening effect due to the chemical compound absorbing light in the ultraviolet and violet region of the electromagnetic spectrum, Korean authorities have become concerned over allergic reactions when in contact with the skin and have since recommended that companies do not include the ingredient in cosmetic products. According a Ministry of Food and Drug Safety official, “Although the United States and Europe have yet to prohibit manufacturers from adding fluorescent brightener to cosmetics, Korea has banned cosmetics manufacturers from using it, as a preemptive measure.”
I honestly can’t tell the difference between the Essie and Dior. They look exactly the same on the nails to me. Both look nice so I’d go with the cheaper option.
They look different in the daylight. Dior has that brightening glow. Also the Essie fades to like an orange in the bottle even though the bottle was stored in the drawer.
Yes, it's a nail polish treatment :) I just did a LIVE yesterday removing it and using it again ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PLPcvcEL7MI.html
Hi! Ah - I don’t quite understand what the white glow under black light does….! Does that mean at nighttime it will actually glow? Or just for clubbing with black lights?! I have very reddish skin tone so I prefer a more yellow white for a neutral nail.
Yeeeees, that made a lot of sense in my head lol. The lamp shows very clearly if the polish has a fluorescent glow or not. That glow is also visible outside and it makes the nails look brighter and it conceals the yellow too. Some brightening polishes have a soft and very natural glow (like Dior) and some are very white/blue and some purple. Some people love that look and some don’t.
Honestly, do whatever you like. These products just look nice on the nail and create a coating. They don't actually condition the nail below (despite the marketing)
Pink Armor is a hardener that contains formalin. It's a hardener. DO you need your nails harder? You mentioned that your nails split. Usually nails that split need flexibility, hardener can make them brittle. There could be many reasons why your nails are weak. Adding hardener might not be the best solution. Often nails are weak because they are damaged. Hi Ram, I looked up Fluorescent brightener 367 which gives Dior that glow and here is official info I found www.canada.ca/en/health-canada/services/chemical-substances/fact-sheets/chemicals-glance/fluorescent-brightener-367.html "As a result of the draft screening assessment, the Government is proposing that fluorescent brightener 367 is not harmful to human health at levels of exposure considered in the assessment. The Government is also proposing that this substance is not entering the environment at levels that are harmful to the environment."
Great question. I put the hand under the lamp to see if the product has that fluorescent ingredient (in a indoor lighting it’s not very visible). It’s visible mostly outside and in daylight. It doesn’t make the nails glow per day but it really makes them whiter and brighter. It neutralizes the yellowing to a degree and makes the nails look fresh. Dior Nail Glow is simply gorgeous. The nails look fresh and pink Here is how it looks instagram.com/reel/CXf_NB0lYXz/?
