When I was a teenager (so over 40 years ago), I didn't wear a base coat once and wore red polish. My nails were soooo yellow. I buffed the yellow out and thought it was great, no more yellow! Oh my. My nails were so freaking thin until that part grew out, it was horrible. I can attest, please don't ever buff your nails no matter how stained they are! I've been using a base coat ever since and my nails have never turned yellow again!

Glad I found your channel! I just learned about the Zoya naked perfector and bought it to use with sheer polishes. Five years of deeply pigmented polishes have left my nails quite yellow. So I used the Yellow Stopper as a base (no peeling!), two coats of the lavender and two coats of Essie Sheer Fantasy, a light pink. It’s almost like a no makeup makeup look: a little more than clear polish, but less than an actual French manicure. I’m very pleased.

That Zoya naked manicure line is fantastic, I bought it on a whim last year and I'll never be without it now. I like to layer one coat of the pink over one coat of the lavender, once I get the white on the tips and the topcoat applied my nails look so healthy and beautiful.

@@TheSalonLife I will need to pay attention and report back, off the top of my head I'm not sure. My nail beds are pretty small and I keep my nails short so I feel like I don't have a huge problem with yellowing, but then again I was never really looking out for it specifically. The next time I use it I'll do before and after photos to compare and I'll let you know. I could possibly test it out on my toes since they haven't been polished since last summer.

If you want fresh bare nail plates after removing a polish, or maybe hair dye that has stained them............ Use (Gena Nail Brite Whitening Scrub with nail brush.) It eliminates the need for a brightening base coat and removes the problem, instead of temporarily trying to cover it. Trust me. It's amazing .
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife 20 дней назад
I used it and it doesn’t help at all ;( I think the yellowing is mostly oxidation of the nail plate and no product can remove it. I googled the ingredients. It contains abrasive and a synthetic cleanser like the ones in liquid hand soaps. Maybe it’s good for under the nail debris and dirt but I do t think it will brighten up a yellow nail.

I’d love to hear and learn more about how other ingredients are labeled as formaldehyde in polish. If a polish has formaldehyde listed in the ingredients, it isn’t actually a formaldehyde because that is a gas, but is it actually formalin in it every time? Or do they label other things as formaldehyde, too? If so, how do you know what is actually in the polish and when it is formalin or something else? Another hardener you’ve educated us about is Dimethyl urea. That is a slower acting and safer one, right? Is it labeled as that in the polish ingredients? I think one you talked about had keratin listed as a beneficial ingredient, but it is actually the Dimethyl urea that made the polish beneficial. For anyone wanting to try to remove staining caused by a polish, and I’m not talking about yellowing in general but say for example your nails get turned Smurf blue from wearing a blue polish, a paste with baking soda and water and a gentle brush can sometimes help. Put it on, let it sit for a minute or two, and gently brush your nails with a gentle brush. Be warned this is drying, so I wouldn’t do it too much and hydrate like mad afterward. Baking soda and lemon is said to help, but since the lemon is acidic, I don’t think it is that good for your nails. I don’t use the lemon juice. Cuticle remover can sometimes remove stains. A whitening toothpaste and gentle brush can help, too. Sometimes there is nothing that will take the stains out. Also, sometimes the stains from a particular polish will go away after a couple of mani’s.
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife 3 года назад
Hi Sherri! Here is more info about formalin written by Doug Schoon. He explains it better :) IMPORTANT INFO ABOUT FORMALDEHYDE bit.ly/3sHLFu2 bit.ly/2Ob3kuY bit.ly/3zsIQRt Dimethyl Urea is always listed as Dimethyl Urea as far as I know. I don’t think they use other names. And yes, Dimethyl Urea is sometimes preferable because it’s harder (no pun intended) to overdo it and it doesn’t cause irritation as often (because anything can be bad for you or irritating if it’s used in excess). They both are used as hardeners to cross link the nail tighter and to make it harder/less bendy (less flimsy) Hydrolyzed Keratin works to a degree but not as a hardener but as far as I understand it binds to the damaged areas. So it won’t do much for people’s nails that are not damaged but peeling and bendy and soft (but no surface damage).
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife 3 года назад
Ps. Yes, the Pink Gel coat says it has keratin but that keratin was listed after the formalin so I think it was the formalin that was really what worked. The keratin might have helped too but it’s just funny how they don’t talk about the formalin in the product because of the bad publicity but they will talk about the keratin because it sounds good. A lot of these ingredients are just for good publicity, they just sound good but they might not even be in the product or be in such tiny amounts that it doesn’t benefit the nails at all.

@@TheSalonLife Thank you for the link!! I really love it when you educate and inform people about things like this in your videos. I think I remember you saying something that inferred you were worried or concerned about repeating yourself in your videos. It’s my opinion, you can’t educate and inform people about what is the cuticle, what is the proximal nail fold, how to care for each, that formaldehyde is a gas, talk about ingredients in polish, how some polishes advertises as having certain benefits but most of the benefits are things almost all polish does, etc. There is a huge amount of misinformation out there, so it is so nice to be able to refer (I post links to your RU-vid videos and always, always give you credit by name) people who ask questions in the nail/ polish FB groups I am in and know that they will get factual information from a knowledgeable source. I would say keep on educating and don’t worry about if you are repeating yourself. I, personally, love and appreciate all that you and Mr. Salon Life do for the nail community.

Hello! before putting the nail polish base I usually use the buffer because I have greasy nails and otherwise the nail polish comes off like a film.is that bad?
@TheSalonLife
@TheSalonLife 2 года назад
Hi Lexie! Nails can't be really greasy on it's own. Using pure acetone/99% alcohol will surely clean them up if the oil is on the source. Some nails can have too much moisture and that can be a problem when it comes to adhesion. Are your nails flexible/bendy? Using buffer will help with adhesion because products stick better to surface that is not smooth but you run a risk of damaging your nails.

The best deal is daily menu Monday to Friday from around 1-4pm. You can get an amazing meal for about $12-13 euros. Including wine and dessert. Overall I love it here. I highly recommend going for vacation and spending a good amount of time here. Not like a 1 week European vacation where you run around from one famous church to the other in 7 different cities. Well the yellow resembles diseased nails. So you're forced to wear full coverage nail polish or get your confidence when in places where your first impression matters...like I dunno, giving a presentation at a very prestigious company or something. Especially as most people don't know this is what nail polish does when you wear it non stop they just think you've got a disease.

Maybe a great follow-up to this video, and the one about milky brighteners, would be a short one covering which ones don’t contain nitrocellulose, since that seems to be the culprit behind yellowing the nails…99% of the reason we want/need the brightener in the first place!

What a shame. /: Well, we’d love a collaboration with Vivian Valenti on a bespoke Dazzle Dry product you could call the Annacure…your favourite style sheer pink lacquer with optical brightener (perhaps VV doesn’t permit that ingredient for DD, however). There could be a milky version and a transparent version. Your viewers/subscribers love your trademark manicure and would be totally into it! I’d bet DD would sell tons. ;D This way we could get our brightening varnish with no nitrocellulose to keep yellowing our nails (making us need more brighteners…that catch-22), while also having all the other superior qualities of DD!
