I was ordained a Catholic priest in 2012 and this hymn was sung at my first Holy Mass. My grandfather, who didn't live to see me ordained, was a faithful Christian man and a faithful sailor who loved his Lord, his country and the Navy. It was always my deep desire to be a Navy chaplain, but due to my diabetes I'm medically ineligible to serve. God bless all who have served and thank you for this splendid rendition.
From every corner of our country, and from all walks of life, men and women have answered the call to service. This weekend, we honor those who have sacrificed their lives in the defense of this great nation.
My dad was in the navy and my mother was the bartender on the base. I was born on that base. I tried to join but was declined due to my health. I'm thankful for everyone who is able to and does serve.
As am I. My father, my late maternal grandfather and paternal grandfather are and were USAF veterans. I too could not join due to my own health issues I continue to fight. I too am grateful for their and those who could and did join and serve in any branch.
Amazing rendition, my only complaint is that it is so short, having only one of the innumerable beautiful verses in this short piece. Semper Fidelis, shipmates!
I was a blue water Coastie, And I think this version is for all seafearing Men and women who go out on patrol 24/7. I played this as an early birth day present, to my knowledge, the only China Sea Service Medal alive. Bill turned 101 yrs on 22FEB19. His glasses got steamed when hearing this version. I still get choked up when I hear this. Thank you.
Bill has left us. I still tend his garden. He had a bad fall, never recovered in August 2019. When ever this hymn is played he will always be true to the sea service.
Very moving - is there a longer version of your performace of Enternal Father. Grew up a navy brat, this was played at my fathers funteral (EMC/SS) and is still one of my favorites. HM2 (AVT) USN/USNR
