As a Portland resident, it's wild that we're coming up as a hot temperature reference now. I have never felt heat that hot before, even while traveling through Arizona. If my power went out I was going to head to the near by library being used as a cooling station. I can't imagine being one of the people without ac. It was just too hot for human life.

It is partially thanks to three things i know of, one, good warriors, they ate a lot of raw flesh just like the spartans and were fairly comparable, two, they have the high ground which means that bow and arrow would never reach them, most rifles also wouldn't, whereas they can just roll a boulder to the edge and its done, and three, most people that fought them had never seen anybody eat raw flesh and assumed they were cannibals and added a fear factor.

As Ethiopian Geography helped (highlands and mountainous landscape)(which the nations were aware of the directions But colonisers werenot) most wars happened in the highlands(I've been there and it's literally/shockingly ALL mountains/No plain ) historically there was existing (ancient/medieval)kingdom in Ethiopia/Abysinnia before colonisers .. that was aware and incontact/involved with other empires in the world, Egypt Europe middle east and india rome/Greeks At last, they're not new for war have had multiple battleship with the ottoman and wars with British and egypt prior to colonisation Also have had help from Portugal from previous wars -Russia helped in first war with Italy(during scramble for Africa) by providing weapons and aid -And help from British in the second invasion of italy (during world war 2) by sending british troops (since Italy became enemy of once British colonising friend) So history politics and geography With other more

Imagine thinking the railway built was poorly thought when it wasn't for passenger travel in The first place. It's primarily for exporting so it actually does the job very well and considering it was built for a 1/3 the price Kenya payed to build their train. Ethiopia did very well

Except it does a fraction of Kenyan cargo and passenger volumes, barely had any port linkages till just recently and has frequent starts and stops due to animal collisions on the track and electric issues.

Just to clarify, I have seen some people commenting that Russia 🇷🇺 gave “100 thousands of riffles” that’s a big lie. Indeed both nations were allies because of the orthodox Christianity they share in common. As the French helped Ethiopia build the first railway system for exchange of Djibouti as a lease, Russians aided some riffles for whatever reason. Diplomacy is give and take. Moreover more than half of the warriors marched with arrows, bows and swords to fight a well organized advanced Italian military. Why Ethiopia won? That’s an answer for a military scientist but one thing I can tell u as Ethiopia is that our people will not think twice when it comes to their country. Everyone is ready to sacrifice their life to defend the motherland.

Wouldn’t Germany taking France be a border expansion? The Nazis wanted to eventually incorporate Western Europeans into a single state controlled by the Reich. The only reason it’s not called an annexation is that the Germans lost. I agree that the Italian occupation of Ethiopia wasn’t colonialism; a working definition I’ve seen used (there isn’t an official difference) is that while both need to be over a detached and culturally distinct place they also must be for an extended period of time. I think a better example would be saying the Japanese didn’t colonize Singapore in WW2.

I would say my country is really unique .. We share customs history languages culture with Arabs not because we were islamised but because of its ancient connection and relationships with middle east but we are not arab enough cus we are chrstians Since we are Christians we have seeked religious/political connections with the Europeans during the medieval time But we are black so we are not Europeans true friends We are black africans But we dont share similar culture and history with other black Africans and we hv little mixing with middleeast, making us light skinned

@Valentín Yes i agree .. when ethiopia ask help from Europe during war with egypt/ottoman in the 80ties They haven't responded since ottoman blocked trading with asia they didn't want fight with ottomans but they also was planning colonizing (Refer Ethio-british war) But NOT in 7th century since Portuguese and europe have helped ethiopia in the mid 14th-17th century through wars with adal sultanet So I would say the disconnection happen in around the 18th century

@@tewodrossamson790 well technically a colony is building settlements somewhere they never existed before like mars for example. and by that definition none of the european settlements were colonies because they were not the first settlers except on some of the remote islands they discovered first.

in the Middle Ages Somalis were colonising most of Ethiopia. The only reason Ethiopia didn’t get colonised by the Europeans is because the British were supporting them against the Italians.

Did I hear that right? In your first few words "Ethopia is the second largest and one of the most influential and well known countries in africa" I don't think ethopia would be classified second largest country in Africa, that title goes to DR Congo. Unless you're referring to something else

Plus, Italy did have a degree of rule in Ethiopia, the Ethiopian emperor Haile Selassie was exiled, and the Italians even organised governroates in the area, It was, by all means, colonised in the traditional sense

@@retf8977 The main reason scholars classify Ethiopia as uncolonized is because the Italians failed to install a lasting colonial administration. Their rule only lasted five years and many parts of the country was not subjugated.

But Ethiopia did get colonised, although for a short period compared to other African nations. But since it was colonised during WW2, that too by Italy, huge amounts of resources were taken from the country rapidly. Also, don't you think this has not bee debated on? There are many vidoes on YT as well so check them out. Believe me or not, Colonialism played and plays a huge role, if not the only role in Africa's problems, along with many other regions around the world.

Ethiopia green fertile land but no Ports/coast, Somalia dry land arid but has the longest coastline in Africa. They should trade with each other and get what each doesn't have.
