The chicken riding baby pigmen introduced in 1.7.4 have really messed up the gold farm which was already working poorly to begin with. So today we try out a different method of dealing with all the zombie pigmen.

12:50 redstone wiring like that can create half ticks that leave the piston in the extended states :-) This can also happen with repeater but then it is extremely rare, probably caused by lag

xisumavoid : The new version of Minecraft 1.7.4 seems to be producing more lag than 7.2, the spikes are worse. I am wondering if the entities have been piling up when the little chicken-jockies despawn, leaving the egg-layers (chickens) everywhere to hold other mobs (mainly zombies) standing around with eggs... thusly, the spikes are increasing because these mobs in turn are held in memory and have to be fed into uploading anytime there is a chunk update? Consequently, these mobs only increase as they will not despawn. So, when a player moves around, there are chances for this to occur, anywhere they have been, thought it may not happen often, when it does, there will be a trapped problem festering until it can be discovered, and who knows how long that could be? If you do not ever find the pocket, it can be possible for the pocket to take up the full 80 entities, and no new mobs would spawn elsewhere. Its a theory, I would be happy to know if I am wrong.

I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed that the sounds don't seem to go down no matter how far you turn down the individual sounds, but the moment you turn them down by the master one they get noticeably quieter

Rather than use pistons use flowing lava to push the pigmen into the portal. However remember lava flows 8 blocks in the nether.

I think you should keep the mossy and cracked, and finish the base like that. Role play it as, the bricks were fresh when you built the base, but it's been a while, and it's damp, and pressure has cracked a few, and moss has grown around.

You should try shutting down all the other portals but the one that directly connects to the final portal and see if the numbers are the same. It might be that only 1 section of the farm is required.

Etho, instead of using redstone, just push the Zombie Pigmen with lava. It will get rid of your chicken problem, and it's much cheaper.

If you're worried about the army of Zisteaus and random portals, you could go back to your Blaze farm design and compress all of them to a smaller area (you'd have to stand a little lower to get the spawns to reach the portals and not despawn). More economical than pistons would be lava streams (they don't die in them and lava flows as far in the Nether as water in the Overworld). This would also take care of the Chicken problem. You may not even need any pistons at all.

Etho to fix the portal problem, make an equally large portal in the overworld divided by 8. In other words, if your portal is 32 wide, then make 8 portals of the same size in the overworld side by side. The better and easier thing to fix the problem--transport the pigmen via pistons to a normal size portal in the nether.
@ToryK13
@ToryK13 10 лет назад
I'm not sure what they did for 1.7.4, but i'm having some serious single-player latency too. I will open chest and it will take about a minute to catch up. Mobs are staggering as well. It's sort of creepy.
@ToryK13
@ToryK13 10 лет назад
That's not the case with me. No villages nearby to make my game latent. haha.
@DFZero235
@DFZero235 10 лет назад
I am definitely getting this too, even in Peaceful worlds with very few friendlies around. It seems to be worst when loading entirely new chunks and is eased when I'm around chunks that I've loaded pretty often (i.e. my base and such). A lot of other people have been reporting similar things with 1.7.3, but it is much worse with 1.7.4. I'm assuming it has something to do with the bugfix fixing improper chunk loading distances, as versions up to 1.7.2 using the new numeric-selection loading system (i.e. being able to pick how many chunks to load exactly) bugged out for selections from 9 to 16 chunks and would pretty much only load 8 for the most part, which is what gave earlier 1.7 versions that weird black haze out in the distance while standing under shade. I've been dropping my chunk loading back down to 8 or 9 down from 10 to 12. It helps a bit, but even that is fairly bad. Below that is fine. So something in the chunk loading code is probably causing all the tick lag, or that now since that the code has been fixed, we are actually seeing real performance on our computers for the first time. However I may be missing details. That's as far as a few hours of observation and research have gotten me.
@ToryK13
@ToryK13 10 лет назад
That entire piece of research you did there. I can confirm that all of that applies to my worlds as well. I also thought it was because of world size, entity count, ect. All of those didn't seem to effect the latency. The Nether is rather laggy in the sense of frame dips. I've also noted it's not a computer problem on my end. Let's players with relatively good computers are having those frame dips as well.
@DFZero235
@DFZero235 10 лет назад
ToryK13 It turned out that after improving my computer's performance, it works as beautifully as it did set to a chunk loading radius of 8 in 1.7.4 as it used to when set to 16 in 1.7.2. So I can definitely assure you it is because of new chunk loading code in 1.7.3/4. And yes, I did notice other LPers were having those problems, so it is definitely not computer spec dependent. So it should be that there are problems with loading chunks with a render distance greater than 8. We might have to wait until 1.8 for an update to that.

I can't wait until you finish the gold farm. Break bedrock with the dark oak trees so the farm will not be forever broken if Mojang makes enderpearls not travel through blocks. In other words, if you break the bedrock you don't have to use enderpearls to glitch through the ceiling.

this ep was nutty. slowing down time by overuse of portal, teleportation technology; cancelling out portal travel by using teleportation (ender pearls) to warp back to another location on the original plane of origin, in 'limbo', before your data is sent through and copied to another location (the second portal). it's like you're being deconstructed by the portal, and then reconstructing yourself via ender pearl, to another location, all the while still being in the middle of being deconstructed and processed by the portal... perplexing.
