Etho, I've got an idea for the mob system: You could put something onto your right mouse button and constantly eat the spider eyes you get from the farm! Like that, you wouldn't run out of food whilst AFKing, and we saw that the regen effect could handle the poison. :)

2 things about this machine. the torns armor that you have in your offhand slot is better if mending is not on it, and is also better if mending is not on the looting sword. if you have more mending things the exp is going to be divided between them and less exp is going to go to your equiped armor. the other thing is about the potions thing, you could put healing potions on a timer, but you can also put food on a dispenser on the same timer and set a key to eat the food automatically, is probably easier to store food and just eat it. the potions require more resources, and you have to trust that the timer is going to heal youat the right time, is hard to time random damage from spiders+poison+hunger properly, but if you just keep eating is going to be 100% sure that you stay alive. maybe if you want to make it fully automatic you could make a chicken cooker next to the farm

Its been over a year since I started my journey to watch all of etho plays mincraft season 2 and man I'm sad there is like only like 100 episodes left.

Hey Etho, to fix the problem of starving when using the farm I suggest using a mooshroom (cow) to be able to eat mushroom soups when you are hungry. And fix your mouse button to eat automatically. If you still want to use the looting you can use dogs (which are save while the spiders are one-hit-kill) or try putting the thorns on your armour and not wearing a full set of it for the mending to be able to repair it.

Wow, that's a really good librarian. Not only does it have Mending, but it runs into a hole to be sealed off on cue, runs around to show off the dragon head on cue, and even runs right back to its enclosure!

Thorn does not stack. Only the piece with the highest level is doing damage. One piece of thorn II is better than 4 piece with thorn 1

I missed the mob mechanics and diamond trolling (as well as General Spaz) from the original 1-150 episodes or so. This episode was a really nice throwback to that! Thank you!

Also a quick idea for the Nexus, just right to the main room where you might put a corridor to the second room maybe keep the glass showing redstone theme you and Doc have been toying around with recently so it shows off all the pretty redstone behind. Etho, what happens if you tape down or weigh down your eating hand and eat some of the spider eyes you get? They do give you one haunch of food, and since you'll always be poisoned, it shouldn't be an issue? Cons: Minecraft has to stay focused, you couldn't go AFK and do something else on your computer, but I think you'd eat far fewer spider eyes than you'd get, so it'd still be profit.

You could do that one trick that's used in auto fish farms. You hold right click with food in your hand, while staring at a metal door. Your character will keep trying to right click until you can do something, like eat, and then it will continue and automatically eat again as soon as your hunger goes down.

Etho was in a really good mood starting this episode 😄 Also ahh thorns was a real swing and a miss for so long before they finally fixed the extra durability loss and mending's random effect.

You can eat afk if you just put a weight on your right click. Maybe a food dispenser for if your stack runs out.

Hey Etho, I see you use a lot of hardened clay. I've always hated farming it, do you just bite the bullet and hardcore farm for it, or is there a mechanic I don't know about?

I'm not sure if it's far or not, but it's about Etho's Lab for the potions. If it's a little bit close, you can have a railway retrieval system to come back to the spider spawners, drop it off, lead it to a few dispensers to splash onto you. When the chest cart is at the point of dropping the potions off, it sends a signal to a clock to the dispensers. The time of the clock takes the same amount of time when the dispenser dispenses the potion. I'm not a redstone expert at all. It might even be worse than anyone can think of. ;)

I have an idea for how to solve your damage problem. Basically, what you would do is have a hopper clock dispense you a spider eye (collected by the farm) every so often , and you would have your right click button held down so that you would eat it. The spider eye would poison you, but that would matter as you were already poisoned. Eating the spider eyes would counteract the hunger problem, and therefore make it possible to afk! Thanks Etho, great episode as usual!

Etho, try adding some tamed dogs, so even if thorns misses the enemies still die everytime and drop rare loot.

If you're willing to do without the looting, you could just eat the spider eyes to keep your hunger bar full.. You're already being poisoned anyway, so it's free food.

you know, I first came to this channel and the very first thing I saw him do was add the lil' crafting bench block swapper in the mancave next to his storage room. And that was so long ago when (sorry Etho) when the mancave was in it's ugly duckling stage, and now he roams his majestic mancave and everytime I see that crafting bench, I smile. So now I see him talking about how he's got to do the nexus and how its a big project and I cant wait for a few more years to pass.. And I'm still sitting here, watching his videos and it'll still look the same cause he's distracted himself with other projects lol

Hey Etho! Add lanterns to the mob system, and have it all (lights, brewing system, potion dispenser) hooked up to be controlled by a pressure plate that you'll stand on when you're in place for the system to be used!

I so hoped it would be Sky Factory.

Here are some suggestions for the health problem: 1. You could make yourself a chamber in which you are surrounded by cows with the spiders attacking from above. Hold a milk bucket and place a rubber band on your mouse (or hold right click and disconnect the mouse while still holding) before going afk. It might be possible to build it in such a way that you alternate between milking cows and drinking milk to get rid of the poison effect. Only that way you would lose the looting effect. 2. Use Xisumavoid's 2-way piston bug door to pull you into a separate chamber every now and then. In that chamber you could dispense health potions without healing the spiders and then have the door pull you back into the farm. 3. Build food farms around the xp farm and have them dispense food at you in regular intervals. Use one of the tricks from (1.) to press and hold the right mouse button while afk. Technically, you wouldn't even need a farm - you could just eat the spider eyes, since you're poisoned already.

I have an idea for the nexus! I'm no redstoner, but you are. See if you can build a hallway that can flip between a staircase leading up and a staircase leading down. It'll probably be super complicated, but that's a main theme of the nexus. Being complicated. I think it's a good idea, but maybe to difficult, or too inconvenient, or maybe just plain impossible to be pulled off. Thanks for reading!

+EthosLab If you press F3 + P, your game will not pause if the game loses focus(alt+tab out), you can use this to constantly eat, the same way automatic fishing farms work. Just remap your right-click to a button when you're at the spider farm, then hold down the eat-button as you're alt-tabbing out, and you'll be constantly eating. Then you can set up a system to dispense steak at you in certain intervals, and fill up your inventory in a way so you can only recive the steak.

Hey Etho! I don't know how effective it'd be, or if it'd even work at all, but you could set up a clock of sorts in the mob farm that lets you hold right click with food in your hand, and maybe have a trapdoor in front of you. Once the clock ticked, it'd close the trapdoor behind a block (using a piston), which would give you just enough time to eat, then it'd open again. That'd mean, however, that you'd have to give up on the Thorns-holding thing (since you'd hold looting in one hand already), but maybe you could put Thorns in your helmet, so it wouldn't take as much damage. Hey Etho, regarding healing options for the Spider Thorns farm, you can also use golden apples as food source and then when you're using the farm AFK just leave something on your 'eat' button.

etho make a dispenser shoot bread at you every so often and have a weight or something on your mouse, or something(you get my point). Then make a villager bread farm to fill the dispenser and practically have infinite afkable food (bread is also a lot better then melons) then fill your inv with cobble or other blocks. Also just wanted to add that your my favorite youtuber and probably the only one that keeps my full retention

Awesome episode! For the Nexus I think it would be fun to add a minecart track to take you to the chests, then you could get an overview of all the build if you wanted. Keep up the great videos, they always brighten up my day.

Hey etho, if you hold an item with thorns on it, in your hand you still get the effect of thorns but the durability does not go down. if you fill your inventory up and have a helmet like a pumpkin on your head you can keep swinging your attack hand and use your other hand to eat food without equipping anything. so set up an automatic food farm that flows to you while you afk and have both left and right click pushed down and you will be able to ask forever while attacking and eating just make sure slot on of your hotbar has food in it. sorry I've explain this in a really complicated way

Could you have steaks on your hot bar, hold down right-click with something or just make a macro with something like auto-hotkey to permanently hold down right click with your steaks selected, and then have a dropper throw steaks at you occasionally? You could then put hoppers under you to collect unused steaks and recycle them back into the dropper, in addition to collecting and sorting the other mob drops. You wouldn't need to worry about another drop replacing the steak location on your hotbar because I highly doubt you'd ever run through 64 steaks before the dropper dropped more, and I'm pretty sure if you put a double chest of steaks on the dropper it would last you for quite a while. You could even hook up the chest or dropper to some lights in the spawn room to automatically shut down the system when there's only x stacks of steaks left so you never accidentally die.

Hey Etho, two things for you A) I would say you should add a Hopper system to the farm as Im sure you are aware considering they are somewhat key in AFK farms to farm anything but EXP B) For the Nexus, I would ask you to consider modifying the theme of it so that you can include the grass currently there and maybe even fit it into the world space without making it a massive building to hide any redstone, my idea was something along the lines of a ruin, that way you could mke clear paths as well as neat spectacles for the decoration of the nexus outside of what you've already done with its design. C) Keep being awesome!

Thorns is an interesting way of making a grinder. I think I might have a solution for the hunger problem: put a few spider eyes in a position on your hot-bar and have right click held down (re-bind it to the space bar and put something on it, for example). That way, especially with looting, you will have enough food from the farm itself and not need to do anything crazy with potions.

Etho, at your Nexus, you could make a trophy room. Something for blocks that you like, BUT probably won't keep a lot of, mob heads, suits of armor, tools, weapons, etc. with a viewing window to the redstone.

Hey Etho, I did some testing with cave spiders, equipped thorns+ mending armor seems to be holding up just fine. Maybe it's just the higher damage that endermen deal, or they were coming at a quicker rate in your test? Here are the details: - Dual cave spider spawner as in the video - An indented ring in the walls of the AFK-room/drop plattform so the spiders could not climb back up into the "disable"-region of the spawners. - Mending + unbreaking III + protection IV + thorns III on all four pieces of armor - Looting III on sword in main hand - Spider eyes in off-hand, right mouse button pressed down while AFK - One beacon with resistance II, one with strength (which probably does not matter) and regen - One hour AFK in hard mode - All armor pieces are holding up just fine, well within 100 points of the max durability - I went from level 0 to 20. Not the best XP farm, but that isn't the point ;) - I did not collect the drops with hoppers, so most of them probably despawned. Still, the free slots in my inventory filled up with 13 stacks of spider eyes and 18 stacks of string. There was one difficulty: Initially, most of the XP was wasted. The spiders had to come uphill to get to me, and were attacking me from a distance of about 3 blocks, with some of the XP falling even farther away. Many of the XP were then unable to get to me. So it is important that the floor geometry allows the XP to reach the player from about 4 blocks away.

I think some other people may have said this, but I think the best way to deal with the hunger issue is to assign your right mouse button control to another key, and then use something to make it constantly held down. Then you can have a dispenser hooked up to give you food every now and then, and so you will automatically eat it, and therefore will not die.

The instant health potion idea is fine, but for a cheaper but slightly more time consuming way could be to set up a small automatic melon farm. Have the melons feed into a dispenser and make them drop onto your body every couple ticks. If you leave a weight on your mouse of use a program to keep it right clicking to eat you would live forever. Have the excess melons feed into a hopper that is right under you, this would also double as a item catcher if you do somehow die. The melons would then feed into a item sorted and back into the dispenser.

Hey Etho, for this new mob system, if you were to have Bane Of Arthropods on your sword when AFK, you might take less damage since the spiders will most likely be one-hit kills with thorns and Bane Of Arthropods. It would be a cool thing to try out!

Etho, if you didn't care about the looting effect during the AFK spider farm, you could just change right click to be a keyboard key, add steak to your main hand and put something heavy on the key. That way it will try to use the steak and when you get hungry it will eat keeping you alive longer.

This episode is a clear explanation why Etho cannot post everyday. Lots of work and testing was here involved.

Etho, your farm could have a dispenser on a timer to periodically dispense food into the first item slot, this way the farm would still be fully automatic just put a rock on your mouse. P.S. Thank you I always wanted an AFK wither farm, this idea is great! Or if you want to use your computer for other things you can make a simple right click macro.
