What's up everybody, it's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we're gonna be looking at the Curt two bike platform style e-bike bike rack. Let's check it out. It's gonna be a platform style bike rack. So the bikes are gonna sit in these trays and be held up front by the wheel hook and then back here by a strap. There's not gonna be any center mast, which is nice 'cause on some of these platform-style bike racks that gets in the way.
When you're loading or unloading, you can't just straight pull the bike off of the bike rack. You have to move it in from the side and the pedals sometimes hit and that just adds more time to loading or unloading your bike. Now it also, what makes it good for e-bikes is it's gonna have a weight capacity of 65 pounds. So in total, 130 pounds. So that's quite a bit, to load up your e-bike without the battery and get on the road.
Taking a closer look at how it holds the bike in place, I'm gonna release the front hook and just show you how easy it is just to ratchet it down. It is padded here, so you don't have to worry about damaging your tire. You'll push it. Now I'm pretty good. See the bike, the front tire is not moving at all when I shake back and forth there, and it has this basket it's pushing it down into.
Some platform-style bike racks have a wheel chock that would just be right about there. So it's not a whole lot. It keeps the tire from coming back, but I like the basket. It visually makes me think there's far more it's pushing against, which is gonna keep it more secure. The back wheel strap is gonna be really easy to undo or tighten down.
Pretty simple. You just push on that to release it and pull down on the strap with the pad here, so it's gonna protect the inner part of your wheel. We pull that tight. And the same as the front, you don't see any moving here as I shake the bike. Along with holding the bike in place, something else to worry about is security. So it does have integrated cable locks. I like the fact that it's integrated. It's something that doesn't detach from the bike, so it's always gonna be here when I'm using this bike rack. I don't have to worry about getting it out of the car or finding everywhere where I set it down. It's gonna be right here. The only negative would be that it is kind of a thin cable lock and it's not super long. So I usually like to go through the frame and the front wheel. This one can only go through the front wheel and fork. Before we unload the bikes and take a closer look at the rack itself, let's take it out on the test course and see how it performs. We're in the parking lot so we're gonna go over the bump course first. It's gonna simulate hitting speed bumps or just maybe a curb and see the bike rack bouncing back around but the bikes are staying stable. That's pretty normal. We're going over the bumps here. They are somewhat aggressive bumps so I'm just keeping an eye on the bikes and make sure they don't move in the cradles or the hooks. That looks good. Now we're going in the portion of the parking lot where I can go a little bit faster and make some slide turns just to keep an eye on the bikes. Same thing, there's a little movement back and forth but not for the bikes, just the platform. So that's good. Next up we're gonna get to the portion of the parking lot where we can speed up and take some aggressive turns and see how it handles that. Look pretty good. Again, just the bike rack swayed back and forth. The bike stayed in place. Back from the test course. The bike rack performed pretty well. There was some side to side movement in there but the bike didn't go anywhere and that's the important part. So first part in removing the bike is going to be undoing the cable lock. So just use our key. You get two of 'em. The core is right here so you just turn it. Then you can pop that out and feed it back in where you got it from. It's nice that it's right there when you need it and you don't have to throw it in the vehicle. So make sure you push it down pretty good, that way it'll just pop back out. Then put the key back in my pocket, we'll come back to the back strap. Push in, remove the strap. It's good to feed it through. That way it's out of the way. When it's time to take the bike off go ahead and grab the frame of the bike, come over here and use the trigger on the hook, push that on that. Push it up and let it fall down. Then just remove the bike. Now when it's not in use, one of the unique things about this bike rack is instead of resting up on top, actually goes underneath. So with

Hey! Do you know if this rack can be used behind a camper? Attached to a hidden hitch? I’ve seen some people do it but want to ask! Thanks! Would only be driving 1.5 hours one way

It cannot. The Curt # C89JR can only be used on cars, vans, trucks and SUV's. The Swagman # S39SR Escapee is compatible with all passenger vehicles and towed trailers, so that's what I'd recommend. You can check it out using this link: www.etrailer.com/RV-and-Camper-Bike-Racks/Swagman/S39SR.html
