Hey everybody, Ryan here at e-trailer. Today on our 2018 Ford F-150, we're going to be taking a look at and showing you how to install the CURT T-connector Vehicle Wiring Harness, with the seven-way connector. So you'd want to use the seven-way for a couple of different reasons. One your trailer that you plan on towing this style of connector, or you plan on towing a trailer that has a brake controller. So this is going to give you the capability to do both since it just taps into our factory wiring, more or less just plugs right in that factory wiring is already going to be pre ran and allow this to put out that electric brake signal, as well as that auxiliary power signal. That way you're able to charge up any batteries that you might have on your trailer, while you're towing it down the road, such as a small pop-up camper or maybe a utility trailer that has a dump bed.So this harness is going to eliminate the need to piece together a whole entire kit and run a bunch of wiring like you normally would have to do.
So with this, it's just going to utilize that factory wiring in your truck and make life a lot more simple. Now, something I do want to mention is that the kit does not come included with the bracket and we have many different types available here at etrailer. However, I really liked this one because not only we can mount up our seven-way, but we're actually able to also mount of our factory 4-Pole that way they're next to each other, and really easy to get to. Now the connector here itself is going to be nice and heavy duty. Whenever we open it up on the under side, there's going to be a rubber seal and that's going to help keep out moisture and dirt and debris whenever we're not using it.Now, with that being said, I'd like to go step further and every now and again, cover the terminals with some dielectric grease.
And also on the bottom of the cap, there's going to be a clip here that way, whenever you plug your trailer connector in, this clip is going to kind of ride down on it and prevent your harness from accidentally getting pulled out. So if you're just needing to pull a trailer that has a seven-way plug, this is all you're going to need, but if you're pulling one that has brakes and you're going to want them to work, you are going to need to pick up a couple more things to complete the package. You're not only going to need this, but you're also going to need an adaptor plug for a brake controller that simply plugs into a factory connector under the dash, and you're going to need the brake controller itself.But other than that, it's going to give you the capability to hook up to trailers that have a seven-way connector. And in my opinion, it's definitely the way to go since it just utilizes that factory wiring that's already ran back here because it utilizes that to get this installed, it's going to be really straightforward. Speaking of which let's go ahead and hook it up together now.
To begin our install, we're going to be working underneath the back of her. We're going to need to locate the factory harness that should be here on the driver's side. So that would be connector that we're looking for is right here. It's just sitting on top of this support beam. We're going to disconnect it the way to do that.
It's a little tricky to see. So you'll have to kind of go off feel, but on this side, there's a tab in the center and if you push down on it, pull the two connectors apart.So that's that little tab I was talking about. Let me push down on it. That's going to allow you to pull them apart from each other. Now we can grab our new T-connector wiring and get it plugged in. What I like to do is use some dielectric grease in here just to help prevent any potential corrosion. If you need some of this dielectric grease, you can find it here at etrailer. I'll coat both sides from there it's really straight forward, one plug is going to get connected one side of the factory wiring, then the other side it's flooding to the other end.Now we can take our white wire with the pre-attached ring terminal and ground that to the body of our vehicle is a pretty solid piece of metal right here, easy to get to. So I'm just going to use that and I'm going to secure it using the included self-tapping screw. Now we can take the other end of our wiring and run it to where we're going to mount it. The kit doesn't come included with the bracket. So if you want to do it like this, you're going to have to pick it up. And I just slightly modified it where our factory 4-Pole wiring was right up in here in this area, I just attach a bracket to it. I had to kind of file t

Hi Ryan, I purchased a CURT 56413 Vehicle-Side Custom RV Blade 7-Pin Trailer Wiring Harness, but doesn't work. Which model will fit a 2006 F-150? Thanks
@etrailer
@etrailer Год назад
The Curt # C56413 is a fit for the 2015-2020 Ford F-150, so it won't work on a 2006 model. For your 2006, use # HM40975 if you have the round US CAR connector located behind the rear bumper. If you don't have the connector, you'll need to hardwire the 7-way using # HM40975-11998. www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Hopkins/HM40975-11998.html www.etrailer.com/tv-install-trailer-wiring-2008-ford-f250-hm40975-11998.aspx

So does the factory 4 pole connector still work after plugging in the harness for the 7pole connector? I seen somewhere that they both will work but I’ve also seen that the 4 pole will no longer work.

The trucks factory 4 pole will not work when this harness is connected. You can use a 7 and 4 pole trailer connector with this harness so that you have both functioning plugs. www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Curt/C56413.html www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Hopkins/HM40975.html

I have a 2018 f150 and installed this exactly as it was in the video but am Not receiving any power to the 7-way connector. The trailer I am towing has a break control. Any suggestions?

Are you using a 7-way to 4 pole adapter like # 37185? Which brake controller are you using? www.etrailer.com/Trailer-Wiring/Hopkins/37185.html

@@etrailer No, I am not. I have the Curt 51180 Wireless Break Controller. Do I need something like #37185?

@@BrandonButler-pr9of If you have a 7-way installed but the Curt # C51180 Echo Brake Controller isn't working, use a circuit tester on the 1:00 position. If it's not showing power, you'll need to run a circuit from that pin to the positive battery terminal via a 40 amp breaker like # 9510. Hope that helps! www.etrailer.com/Accessories-and-Parts/Pollak/9510.html

The Curt 55774 is designed for vehicles that are designed with the factory US car connector and the 7 way plug. The kit shown in the video is for trucks with the factory tow ready package. www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Curt/C56413.html

Does the vehicle need to be equipped with the trailer control in the cab of the truck for it to be able to plug into the factory harness?

You will only need the brake controller if you plan to haul a trailer with brakes. www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Curt/C56413.html

Excellent video. Clear, organized, easy to understand. I especially like that you included the possibility of fuse missing at end of video. Could you include what signal looks like from a brake contoller that is working, and how to test with an analog multimeter and/or digital?

Suggest a quick note to viewers that the tire will need to be lowered and removed even though it will become obvious as they do the install. Helps 'em to get a feel for how long it will take. Thanks for your video!!!

Thank you for the feedback. We will keep this in mind for this video and for the future. Lowering the spare tire will make the install easier. www.etrailer.com/Custom-Fit-Vehicle-Wiring/Curt/C56413.html
